I  wonder when it was born, and if they are still substituting. (and giving a credit)

Updates show several recent changes transmission usage/availability.

the 10 speed is

Standard on 4WD models equipped with (L84) 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine.

Included and only available with (L87) 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine or (LM2) Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel I6 engine.

and the 8 speed is

no height adjustment on the drivers seat.  I read an article that someone said that the manual seats have the driver sitting in a hole.

That  "driver" probably weighed 350+ lbs. ?

Normal people will find no issue with seat height.

I  wonder when it was born,

Judging by the last 6 digits of the vin, sometime in Dec is my guess.  Mine was made same plant later Oct and it 139xxx.  I was told that its on constraint (10-sp) so its limited to 6.2L or 3.0Lengines and those are also on constraint. Caveat; that's per sales manager at local dealer who does all  the ordering.

I have an elevation 5.3/10spd and love it. Just did a 750 mile ski trip to Maine. Other than the sliding window starting to leak, the truck never missed a beat. Drove through a snow storm, put it in terrain and Auto and kept on rolling. Averaged 17mph with 60% back roads 40% highway. I ran it pretty hard too....passed a lot of cars lol.

Currently, the only way to get the 10 speed in an LT or an Elevation is with the 3.0.

Currently, lowest trim with 5.3L 10 speed combo is the 4wd SLT.

5.3L 10 speed isn't currently offered in silverado, and is currently discontinued on lower trim sierra's.

all 3.0's have the 10 speed -- LT, RST, LTZ, HC, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, Denali

all 6.2's get the 10 speed (also all 6.2's are 4wd) --   CustomTB,  RST,  LTTB,  LTZ,  HC,   SLT,  AT4,  Denali

Or an LT Trail Boss. I have the 2020 5.3 L84 V8 with the 10 speed tranny, 2 speed rear end. Love it! Purchased in March 2020. Sticker, $54,500, paid $44,000 + tax, title etc.

I have a 21' LT with the 3.0. Love it to death. Don't let diesel prices or DEF scare you away. Maintenance is same as Gas for the most part. Maybe a few extra things, but nothing crazy. Love the pickup of it, and it warms up real fast, within a few miles. I got a steal on mine, sticker price was $55.5k and I got it for $42.5+tax and title. That's almost 25% off sticker price.
