Enjoyed my 9 months of ownership. Decided to forego the travel trailer lifestyle so I traded my truck for a new Audi A6 3.0 last week. After many years of driving a SUV or truck I’m enjoying the sedan experience so far. Given that these trucks are in demand, I figure it cost me about $6k to own it for 9 months. Best of luck to all.

The one car I will never buy after having worked on a few Audis.

Best of luck.. if it breaks after warranty, grab the lube :)

I sold Euro cars for years, Benz, Audi, BMW, Volvo and they are GREAT right up until they are NOT, buy the extended warranty or ditch it right before warranty expires, unless you are a guy that will work on and maintain them yourself.

Taken care of and maintained by yourself the cost can be reasonable and they will really last, buy one that was ignored and you will REALLY pay at the dealership.

Enjoy the car and Cheers

This is true of most German cars.

Most German cars "nowadays"....They did have sensible engineering at one point but now?  They no longer follow the "KISS" (keep it simple, stupid).  It has to be overenginerded with no respect for the shade tree mechanic.

Just a few years ago, Volkswagen took the entire Euro market reliability down a notch singlehandedly.  Best wishes to the OP but that new ride is a ticking time bomb

Congratulations on your new car!

If you are ever in the truck market, you know what to buy again.

Should've kept the truck to tow that overpriced Volkswagen to the dealer when it breaks, imo. VW/Audi/Porsche overly engineer everything unnecessarily and it causes the cost of repair to go up while parts availability is scarce. Best of luck to you. I hope you don't need it, but lifetime experience tells me you will.

Dang wish you would have let me know. I’d have taken your snowflake 22s!!!  Lol. Love those wheels.  Any-how hope your Audi treats you well. They are nice looking cars. Enjoy and good luck.

The GMC Denali was a great truck and if I’m ever in the mood for another truck I’d buy another.

The Audi is my 14th “Kraut” built vehicle which somewhat speaks to my age of 72. Anyway this ain’t my first rodeo. All were trouble free save a hiccup here and there, the worst being a EGR failure in a BMW X5 diesel. A couple of trips to the dealer (under warranty) resolved the issue and it gave me many trouble free miles thereafter.
The new Audi is a remarkable car albeit the technology can be mind numbing if one isn’t tech minded (I am).  After a couple of sessions in the driveway fiddling with it I now have everything set to meet my desires. I find it to be intuitive and easy to use after a bit of a learning curve. Everything is touch screen based or voice activated. I obviously cannot speak to its long term reliability but I can tell you that the fit and finish in this car is far superior to the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing or Tesla Model S which I also considered. All one has to do is listen to the opening and closing of the doors to know!

You either overpaid for the truck or got screwed on a trade in.  Excluding insurance (cheap) and gas, if I sell to Carvana today, I will lose $4960.  My numbers include every penny of maintenance, registration, taxes, even the flight to the dealer to pick it up as I didn't buy local.  That loss is also assuming I wouldn't just pull my catch can and tonneau cover and sell on my own (that's an easy $500 doing a quick sale).

    • 2011 GMC, 5.3, 183k miles. OK, ....I don't know, this may open a bucket of discussionworms. Ha. Here's the issue. I've been following GM's "mandate" to use Dexos 1 oil, 5w30 (Castrol). I'm thinking maybe I should consider a High Mileage oil due to 183k miles. Castrol and Mobil 1 both make HM but both do not display the Dexos 1 label. So....since I'm way past warranty does it hurt anything at all to change to the HM oil? Its not "Dexos 1" but I kinda doubt it will hurt a thing. I'd like some input especially if someone has done this. Thanks
    • It is a company truck. Not under warranty. Both companies I’m involved with usually buy trucks that are discounted when looking. Except what the owners drive. Being retired and minority owner. I don’t drive a company truck. If they have the new GM gas engine it would be in a service truck.
    • Update!   Had the dealer look at the issue. First tech says no problem?? I said there was no voltage on the brake terminal on the 7 pin connector! He said he did not know what pin I was talking about. So they bring out a seasoned tech and I explain to him. He attaches a VOM and has me push the brake, and sees no voltage!!    Tom, the seasoned guy says lets go back to my service bay and look closer. We discover thru his on line system that the controller is a "smart controller" as it needs to detect a trailer connected before the brake voltage is allowed to the 7 pin connector!!! He also showed me a GM bulletin stating some trailers with LED lights have such low resistance the controller wont recognize them!!! I was thinking WTF, but thanked him for bringing me back into the service bay and explaining this all to me. He also plugged in a trailer simulator and it showed the brake controller was indeed working.   After my dealership visit I hooked up to an older camper with standard 1157 lights and the truck did connect and the electric brakes worked great!    Not to sure what I have to do with the equipment trailer with LED lights, I cant tow it with no brakes.   Why did something so simple for many years have to get so complicated!
    • Do find out as that would be interesting if they have been using any L8T engines or for that matter have been running any of the Ford gas 7.3 to see how they have been panning out.    I assume your nephews engine replacement was on his dime as the regular warranty would have long past unless he had some form of extended warranty that covered such events. That shows though and may depend on the year of the build that failures are occurring with the valve train well beyond the warranty distance and more than likely so will others have that sneak up on them.
    • I realize this is an old post and its probably been talked about since then on this forum and I may have mentioned it myself but the Chev multi flex tailgate on the HD trucks are all aluminum so there is that one item that I am aware of on a current GM HD truck that is aluminum but if its the standard tailgate then its still a steel unit as far as I am aware to current 2026 model year.
