I dunno if different groups are seeing different posts but I swear everyone here was terrified that they’d use the button shifter from the SUV last year. But now everyone hates the console shifter. I could never stand being an automotive designer! 😂

I think the console shift is the best alternative to a column shift. It’s definitely cooler than the Ram rotary dial thing. And much more truck-like than the push button SUV shifter.

I also think the paddle shifters are cool and would be a lot more useful than the up/down button on the column shifter.

That is the problem with truck buyers today, it isn't about "cool", it is about function and being utilitarian. Too many design decisions and options are as noted in an earlier comment from the wrong demographic. That is why Ford had to design theirs to fold (which wow if that isn't a ridiculous failure point that could have been avoided with a different gear change set up) because I am sure too many people who use them as a tool for work couldn't utilize the console properly, especially with larger meals and larger laptop computers. Even with this shifter being electronic it still takes up in an awkward spot/room that doesn't allow you to put something larger flat on the console. That was my biggest gripe with that Colorado/Canyon.

I hope this is only for the Denali/High Country and the dash is different with a different shifter for the lower models, they have that for the SUV's.

I like it , GM needed to step up in a big way and this looks like a nice step . Love those gauges too.  Looking forward to seeing rest of it . I do think this is Denali model , so maybe they will do what Ford did on the gauge cluster and give the current 8 inch Denali/HC cluster to the SLT/LTZ/LT models

Now does that new screen look like a 12 inch or 10 inch like the SUV's?

Maybe it's time to start accepting the fact that the demographic you THINK buys the most trucks is not actually the demographic buying the most trucks.

As mentioned above, the center console shifter takes up space, and space is a premium in a vehicle that gets used as a tool.  I hate having to navigate around a center console shifter when trying to place my laptop on the center console, off to the side, or anywhere other than my lap.  Steering column shifters are nice and out of the way, the rotary dial shifters are nice and out of the way, the push button shifters are nice and out of the way, but a center console shifter is not out of the way by any way shape or form....silly in my opinion.  The rest of the interior looks really nice and I am excited to see how intuitive the infotainment system and controls are.  Looks like an overall win right now, but that dang center console shifter kinda ruins it for me.

Agreed. Except for the liking column shifters. I was hoping to possibly upgrade in 2023 with supercruise and the button shifters. But no such luck.

I think it's entirely possible that there will be button shifters on the non-Denali or HC trims. I honestly think this console shifter is just a Denali thing to make it feel more SUV'ish.

Console shifter as stated above and to me is a mistake.  There are better uses for the console than to put the shifter there.

Like an overtly huge storage area that most owners never use. Or only use 20% of its capacities. 😂 🤦🏻‍♂️

I would probably trade for another High Country if I did it. I would have to have supercruise to make the jump worth it, and I get the feeling they will probably limit that initially to the top trim.

The reason I just bought a 2021 was the column shifter..... we all saw this change coming.

I wonder what's in store for a 2022 w/a bench seat...probably will retain column shift.

I'm sure even the LT's will have a column shifter. I think the XL F-150s all do.

Can't wait for this one! Just sold my 2020 AT4 for a nice profit, bought H2 to get me by until these hit the market.  I think it will be worth the wait.

Was pretty disappointed in the ‘19 interior that my dad has in comparison to my ‘17. This looks like it fits the price tags of these trucks much more.

Interior looks good. Like others have said. Screen isn’t sticking out like a sore thumb. Flows nice throughout the interior pic.  Now give us more insight on engine options?  I want more HP/TQ

Yes! Hoping the 5.3 and 6.2 both get a 25/30 bump in hp and Torque.  And the 10 speed eventually becomes standard across all lines.

I was so upset when I saw those spy shots! console shifter!

To all aftermarket parts companies out there who visit this forum, the second this stuff becomes available at the parts counter please start working on figuring out if its possible to convert a 19-21 from column shift to console shift! I'd pay almost anything within reason to have a console shifter in my truck.

When shopping for trucks the shifter style is one of the things I pay attention to, I gave way too much consideration to Ford simply because they put the shifter in the correct location. I had to keep reminding myself it has an under-powered too-small engine.

I couldn't believe that GM finally did this...right after I made the investment and bought a '20...I too was scared they would go to pushbuttons and thought I better jump on one now before they do...then they went and did this!
