Well I get to answer my own question. I do all my own maintenance, change oil early. Still had lifter fail on Monday of this week at about 28,000 miles. Truck was built during bad lifter window TSB.

Given that most of the failures of lifters installed in engines during the "known bad lifter" window identified by GM failed fairly early in their life (like around 8K miles), I would say your result is good anecdotal data that early and frequent oil changes may have an effect on how long the known bad lifters can be depended on before they eventually do fail.

I think it is pretty well established by GM and their lifter supplier that the suspect lifters were produced with a defective component (one report I read is that it was an improperly heat treated spring), so likely no amount early and frequent oil changes is going put the heat treat into a spring that didn't get it.

Well I got the truck back, they only replaced half/ one bank of the lifters. I asked them if the cause is a bad batch bad of lifters what do I do when they other side of the motor fails. That said if it's under 60k gm will pay if it's after 60k I will have to pay. Well after driving my truck 800 more miles it now burns over a quart of oil in those miles. The antifreeze went down over an inch. Several of the underhood clamps/ parts were missing or broke on the side they worked on. The big wire harness plug by the airfilter was just bouncing around because they broke off the clip. After all that the dealer and GM refused to give ne a rental vehicle. They also refused to give me a shuttle ride hone from dealer. I know gm would hate to dip into shareholders earning or CEO Mary Barra 23,700,000 pay to retain customers by treating them with dignity. So After buying 8 GM vehicles over my lifetime I'm done. Truck has been traded in. Never again. Goodbye to GM.

Good bye and thanks to all the helpful forum members. Hope GM treats your guys better.

Thankfully we haven't had oil/coolant loss issues since our lifter replacement, but our dealer did break a wiring harness clip and didn't clip a heater hose back into place on ours (our bad lifters were on the passenger side, yours sounds like it was the driver's side).

Out of curiosity, what did you trade it in for? I don't plan on owning ours out of warranty so I've already been looking, too, and am leaning towards an F150 or F250 since we have a Ford dealer practically walking distance from our house (at least if it has issues, too, I can push it there!).

2021 Sierra Elevation 17,300 Miles, Just experienced the Lifter Failure issue in my truck. Currently at the dealer getting bank 2 lifters replaced.  Fun times, I am a lifelong GM Guy but these new trucks and issues are slowly pushing me away.

I also see GM is saying brand new trucks sitting at the dealers need to have there lifters replaced before they are sold. So there are m a many bad batches.

So, if life (YOUR DEALERSHIP) presents you with a S%%T sandwich and you accept it and then eat it, shame on you.

If they offer you a S**T sandwich, and you refuse, complain, and have things fixed to your satisfaction, GOOD for you!!!

Everyone complains about customer service, but no one will stand up to the machine and fight for what is theirs. Lost art on both sides.

You are exactly right Adam.  GM has recently issued a notice to dealers that all incoming 2021 vehicles with the 6.2 engine have to have all of the lifters replaced BEFORE they can be sold to a customer.

in my option GM should offer us owners of these vehicles a lifetime warranty for any lifter failure.  I only have a little over 3k miles on my truck and it’s one year old now.. (I have 5 vehicles and live between NJ and FL.). So i may be out of warranty long before I hit enough miles to cause a failure.  I love my new Denali but this is Bull*&$t.

When we had our lifters replaced, we negotiated in a six year, 100,000 mile component coverage on the entire engine.

I agree it should just be given to all owners of the '21 model year trucks, though. I believe Hyundai did a similar engine warranty extension on certain years of their 2.4 Theta II I-4 engines as they had block casting/crank bearing issues on those, for example (though Hyundai has a more generous 10 year, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty to begin with).

I tried negotiating a shuttle ride home. Dealer said No rides, owner of dealership said because of covid. Owners of dealership said no loaner cars available. I asked why couldn't any of the 30 used vehicles they has for sale couldn't be a loaner. They didn't reply anymore to me. I really tried to be a lifetime GM customer. But have had two lemons, then have been treated very poorly by four chevy dealers near me I'm just done.

I just hate being lied to by dealers. They promised me shuttle rides and loaners. Got neither. When I bought a Toyota they had me sign a sheet of paper explaining everything. One of them said Toyota does not pay for loaners/ rental cars. At least their honest up front. All dealers are sleezy, but dont lie to me.

I would have stayed on the Silverado bandwagon if they stood behind their product with a lifetime lifter warranty. Or even a 8 year 200k one.

Yeah how in the hell do you idle a couple of hours a day? I could understand maybe like 10 minutes a day but 2+ hours in one day means you must live out of that thing

We use to idle our vehicles all days long as we were Route Surveyors for a state DOT and worked near traffic all the time. The vehicle had to stay running to power the strobe lights, rotating beacons, t-way radios not to mention protect workers and alert motorists of our presence in the roadway.  We were constantly moving all day long especially when we doing differential levering....

Depends on the dealer.  I have always gotten a loaner when a vehicle needed to be serviced longer than a day.  No issues at all.  Sorry that you have this happen with the dealer you have.  Just bad business if you ask me.

Same here, my dealer will give you a loaner even if its going to be a couple hours.  Some are just aholes and the customer is not important to them.  Remember that next time it comes time to spend you money.  I had that happen a few years ago where the service adviser dissed me. I will never go there ever again and get enjoyment telling others to avoid them because the SM is a an arrogant sob.

Practically no car dealer has loaners now, but our dealer would set me up with a Hertz rental car on their dime, at least. I had to get four different rental cars for repairs on our '21 Silverado and only one was a loaner car from the dealer itself.

My GMC dealership is out of loaners, but they contracted with a ride share company to take customers anywhere they need to go.
