And if so how much.

Honestly, it's very very easy to do. Not worth the headache.

I agree with @14burrito

It's at most a 10 min job and you don't even need to jack up the truck to do it. Just need a pan to catch the little amount of trans fluid that will leak out, and a socket set. IIRC, a 10mm socket for the plate that holds the 2 transmission cooling lines in and a 13mm socket to remove the thermostat body from the trans. It is even easier than doing the "pill flip" because you don't have to open up the transmission thermostat body.

Just slide under the truck just behind the front driver's side wheel towards the trans and you will find it. But like was mentioned... Make sure the 2 tiny o-rings stay on the ends of the transmission cooling lines when you remove and reinstall them or you will get a surprise later...

You guys will get a good laugh out of this...

So I was going to have my 18 dbl cab in the dealer to get a oil change and rotation. Id do it myself but its too cold for that nonsense. So I asked about getting the new thermostat for the trans. I gave them the tsb and the woman quoted me 3-4 hours labor to do this.

I told her it's at most an hour probably half hour.

Then I said " I get it you're not selling any cars so you gouge everyone on service, sad. "

She hung up on me🤣

1hrs laybor on your job is about $80 and they are probably loosing money at that rate , the dealer can make 4-5x that on a customer just doing brakes and oil. , why would they even want to deal with a cheapo customer, they have real overhead to cover. they're operating cost per month is getting insane $$$$ post covid,   cheap mofo's should do thier own work or go to a scammer mechanic

You must work at a dealer?

I do most work myself.

I'd gladly pay for an hour of labor to do a fifteen minute job.

They can kiss my ass for 3-4 hours labor for a fifteen minute job.

I'll wait until it warms up and do it myself in fifteen minutes.

One that can not be trusted with the little jobs can't be trusted with the larger.

Any service writer quoting 3 hours for that job needs a new job. Something non automotive. Maybe something like inmate.

It depends on how the job is presented. Except for oil changes every job can’t be a lost leader. And it’s about competition. I needed a light bulb to pass inspection. I figured I’d get it done at the dealership along with the oil change. He told me 300$. Of course I did my research and asked him if he wanted to check again. I ended up down the road at another dealership. They did it for much less. I didn’t need the whole light just the bulb. Before I say that guys out of line I’d check the competition.

Did the swap today. A lot less room in there than I thought but not too bad. Looking forward to the difference in temps while towing. FYI my dealer wanted $450 for the new thermostat.
