Over the past year, 3 of the 4 original tires developed sidewall blowout and today 4th original tire   had a blowout and entire tread separation.  35,000 miles on this final tire, others happened much earlier and lower mileage. I am a careful 67 year old driver.  Truck is 2020 Silverado 3500 High Country 4WD/SW non-dually.   Wondering if anyone else experiencing issues with original Goodyear tires like this.

 

Upon separation, trim, splash panel and other damage under fender occurred.  Grateful I could get off the road safely in rush hour traffic.

Randy, I have the same issue with my 2022 Sierra 3500hd and GM is playing around with people’s lives. I happen to see mine even before the truck was PDI’d I didn’t really think about it  much but I took a picture of the tire.. 3K later the bubble got big when I went in for an LOF they told me that I hit a pothole. When I showed them the picture then the manager comes out and say yeah there’s a problem.  Long story short now they want to give me only 2 tires but they all have weaves. Tucks trucks in Hudson Ma don’t go there

I’ve seen this movie before. In the 70s with Firestone tires. My brothers Ford elite came with those new. You could feel the vehicle move around at slow speeds. He was in the military and just married so money was tight. They warranty the tires at a pro rate as long as you put the same on. A few months later he got a part time job at sears. He got a sears card fearing those tires as they were moving around again. He bought a sears brand at a store discount. Guess who made sears tires. You guessed it Firestone. A little later I took over the payments on the Ford he just having his first born. I put on new tires after an obvious twisted belt. It was much later that it became known that Firestone had a bad run. I wouldn’t play around get rid of those tires.

I operate a hiway assistance truck and just yesterday changed a tire on a 5th wheel camper that had a new Goodyears on it , 1 lost its tread and did some serious damage to the trailer. I didn't catch the size but it was at least an E rated tire

Similar issue last week 2022 GMC 3500 AT4.  Tire tread separated, front driver side, still fully inflated.

No accident, but 7k worth of damage to fender and door.  Luckily not towing or meeting anyone at the time .
 

GM warranty will not cover anything.  Tire warranty - NOT.

Better my insurance than theirs so they figure.

 

Obviously a faulty tire.  


Owned many GM vehicles , will be replaced with competitor truck with non Goodyear factory reject tires.

I put the Goodyear Endurance (E rated) tires on our trailer about a year ago. There is a very visible seam in the sidewall on all 5 (both axles plus spare). The same thing is evident on our AT4 3500; it looks sketchy but I haven't had any issues yet. I'll likely swap back to BFGs in the next few months just for piece of mind.

2023 Silverado 3500. Stock Goodyear Wrangler AT all four have bubbles on sidewalls exactly one year and 18k miles. Took to dealer exactly on the year anniversary from purchase, was told I was lucky that I brought it in within the one year warranty period. They are replacing tires but this is absolute negligence on GM for not recalling these four tires. My fourth new Chevrolet purchase in my life and not sure if I would trust GM after this neglegence.

GM didnt make the tires nor do they warranty them. Your tire warranty is through the manufacturer that built them. Any "recall" would likely been done through GM but ultimately would fall on Goodyear's shoulders. 

 

I bought a lot of tires when I was still working, we managed over 40 vehicles from a small sedan to class 8 trucks. I always leaned towards Michelin when possible. We kept detailed records of wear inspections and replacements and typically got 20% better life from the Michelins for only a little more money. We did however run Goodyears on some vehicles and never had any issues. All of these vehicles were categorized in severe service. 

 

My personal vehicles get Michelins if available, Goodyear is my second choice.

He's a 4 time Chevy buyer, you can't tell him nothing. He probably paid General Motors $200,000 in his lifetime by now so you better listen to him.

 

It can't be Goodyears fault, it's all on Chevrolet...............................

I just hit 35K and my left rear tire tread separated and all hell broke loose.  Caused significant damage to the wheel well and tailgate damage including blowing out one of the sensors.  Tires have plenty of rubber on them and nowhere near the wear indicators.   Very disappointed in the tire.

    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
