I've been going through the process to qualify for a buyback via the "lemon" laws in Utah due to the faulty trailer brake controller.  A GM field service engineer was dispatched to look at my truck a couple weeks ago to no avail.  That was the fourth attempt at repairing the issue, thus qualifying me for a buyback according to Utah law.  Funny enough, as soon as GM got wind that I was pursuing arbitration via the BBB, they called me the following day saying they magically have a fix.  When pressed, however, they called back and asked me what I want to do, and they are now coming up with a buyback offer.  I have no idea what to believe from GM.  If they really have a fix, I'm the only one who's been told about it at this point, apparently (at least I haven't read about a fix anywhere else).  I have my doubts since GM said they'd put together a buyback offer the day after telling me there's a fix.  I'm not willing to go the 3rd party/aftermarket route with the trailer brake controller.

I started a complaint with BBB and 2 days later i got a call back from GM, we have started the process to buy back or replacement option.  I will keep updating as i know more.

I also filed a complaint with bbb and have been put into a repurchase program .. no offer yet.  Has anybody heard any updates on a fix?

I did not hear anything yet about a fix. Someone on this forum said GM told them that a fix should be available between Thanksgiving and Christmas... 3 more days until Christmas... please Santa, I've been good and worked hard all year, I just want my truck to work as expected... I promise I'll never buy again GM products!

I got a call from GM and they are buying my truck back. They don’t want to replace it because they have no idea what is causing it and they don’t want me to be stuck with the same issue. So i will now look for a different vehicle. Not look forward to that.

And dammit if I go down that route

1) the interest rates are getting worse

2) prices have gone up since I bought

*Insight to the trailer brake controller malfunction!* I made a video showing that I can cause the trailer brakes to error out using the squeeze switch only that results in the controller immediately resetting it and continuing to work 'normal' again after a moment until the next error. When I make it error out using the brake pedal, it triggers a full disable for that key cycle until i restart the truck. An interesting hot-fix/code change would be awesome to allow a pedal error to reset like the squeeze switch does. nerds, where you at?

FILED A COMPLAINT WITH PA. ATTORNEY GENERAL. IT EITHER LIT A FIRE UNDER GM'S BUTT OR THEY'RE BLOWING SMOKE UP MINE. WAS TOLD IT WILL BE A PART REPLACEMENT BUT HAVE NO ETA WHEN IT WILL BE AVAILABLE. THEY SHOULD STOP PRODUCTION UNTIL THESE PROBLEMS ARE FIXED.

Hello everyone,

Since I still do not have any news from GM more than 3 months since I reported the integrated trailer brake controller issues, I have filled a complaint to Transport Canada. This issue is life threatening, somebody will be gravely injured or killed in a road accident if this issue is not fixed, it should be top priority for GM and all authorities that regulate public transportation and road safety! Very disappointed on how GM handles this! :(

Was about to post.  Got this from my service manager this morning.

Any chance you can get the part number off the new switch before it gets installed?

Getting my truck this May(be) to tow and I'd like to see if the fix was caught in production.

I'll see what I can do - Hopefully it will be on the work order.   I'll also test-tow my trailer.

Thank you for the update, Brent! I hope this is the fix we are all  waiting for! Back in September, my dealer replaced the brake controller, but the issue was still present, so they put back the original part.

Please keep us updated! Thank you!

    • There are probably a few threads talking about fuel mileage but this one seemed to fit the stats I have seen based on my typical local driven route but with different outcomes based on different seasons/temperatures. I have a few hundred pounds of items that consistently ride on the truck at all times such as a bak flip cover, rubber bed mat, tools and extra fuel so I would be something over 8100 lb without me in the truck. All these examples are based on a 100 mile round trip to a town plus running around town so maybe 110 to 120 miles in total for a trip. Using regular fuel and I assume it always has some ethanol in it but don't know the percentage they blend in. Also speed wise I am going at 62 mph and non aggressive driving although less speed yet if its crappy winter condition roads. I am going by an initial reset of the computer generated fuel use numbers averaged over a couple of thousand miles or so for each weather/season so they may be more optimistic then actual hand calculated numbers. Basically this is painting a picture of doing the same drive but seasonal conditions and temperature being the major variable to the end result. Oh and although I am in Alberta Canada, I am converting it to miles per US gallon so there is no confusion.    So winter time it gets cold here, no real surprise there and the roads can be clear at times but also often have packed rough snow or are are driving through loose snow ( they do a poor job of plowing the highways ) and yes this includes the extra idle engine time due to trying not to freeze ones butt off. 12.7 mpg is what I was getting during the winter months on average.    Then during the spring when it was around the freezing point and the highways are clear of snow, I was getting around 14.25 mpg.   Summer time, I have been getting around 15.15 on average but certainly some of the trips showed quite a bit better fuel mileage, so much depended on how much or little I had driven around town and number of engine restarts after sitting for a while at each location. But stating a best fuel mileage trip to town pretending that is what the truck gets on average is fooling ones self for sure !.      As I said in a different post, I had driven a 645 mile trip over a couple of days stint to a different destination then these other daily to town examples above, and was done during the summer with nice weather and not bucking a head wind, also keeping at 62 mph and its a rolling landscape type highway drive ( this isn't southern Alberta or Saskatchewan flat lands ) Hand calculated fuel mileage in this case though and it came out to 17.65
