Fix it, or leave it?

I'm in the fix it camp. Don't start down the slippery slope of "it's a truck" unless you plan to keep it forever. 

 

If it was just a truck you would have bought a 2000 beater and not even mentioned the "scratch" on this forum. The fact that you are posting on this forum says fix it !

Random question, if, when it gets wet, the scratch disappears, does that mean it will be able to be buffed or maybe Dr Colorchipped out?

Fix it for sure. I'm OCD, though. I have dents fixed as they come and am always working to keep things looking tip top.

Same.  I don’t even take it through brush car washes, only touchless or I do it myself…

Fix it.  If money is tight, find the best acceptable least cost alternative, but fix it enough that you at least don’t automatically have your eyes drawn to it and mostly to keep it from rusting.

One guy digs a hole and tosses the shovel at the truck hoping it goes in the box. 

Another cleans the shovel and oils it. then places it in it's place in the box.

I have obsessive-compulsive disorder, I will definitely try to fix it, but the price is really a problem, maybe you can find out a way cheaper to fix it.

Yeah from that picture to me it looks like this panel was gouged by something metal. Can a dent guy repair gouged metal like that?  I would think that would require a proper auto body shop to smooth it over and respray.

A metal mailbox.  I think that’s the reason behind the higher price tag to repair.

Yeah that doesn't look like a very easy one to fix, if it is aluminum i would think that also increases the cost.

How about first buffing as best as you can and view the results if you can or can't live with it. Then you won't have to second guess if you take it straight to the body shop is worth the cost.

It definitely bothers me, but the longer it’s there, I think it may look just fine if Dr Colorchip covers/protects it.

 

I think what is killing me too, is the best reviewed body shop is 4 months out, and requires a 10% non refundable deposit.

 

Clearly this is a stupidly tough decision because it is a lot of money.  Do you guys think if I went to trade it in without it fixed, it would reduce the value at least that much if not more?

I'm seeing half rotted out 15-year-old half tons with 150K plus on the clock bringing more than I paid for Pepper new. 

How long will that last?

You and me both!  I’d jump on it if new trucks weren’t so much more than I paid as well.
