Hello, I have a 2019 GMC sierra 1500 SLT 5.3l. When I bought the truck would go up to 105 mph. After a while the truck hits only 98mph. Does anyone know how this happened?

Beats me but more than half of the trucks will have a 98mph limiter based on the tires it came equipped with.

Big deal if you can't go 7mph faster now.

The thing is that this truck went down on the limited from 105 to 98. From 98 to 105 is a big difference especially when passing.

Have you installed different size tires?

There's a 75mph speed limit on a two lane country road?!?!? Not sure who the idiot is here, the one who created speed limit or the idiots driving that fast on a country road. Only speed limit above 70mph I've seen in the US are on interstates. But you do you Bubba and keep your $5, I don't want you fondling my balls.

In Texas we have those two lane roads ( better built than a lot of highways) with passing lanes every 4 miles. No cows, goats etc.

Oh! I think a $5 pair of balls will probably fit you small!

I will send you $10.

Originally I asked a question to see if anyone had had this same issue so if you don't have good feedback , keep it shut and Keep strolling!

Good Day!!

Mine never changed but the first time that I did hit the speed limiter it was during passing a vehicle and I was scared "ball-less 😬" hitting that speed.

I got you!

I mean I don't drive crazy but being on the road for many years now, sometimes I Need that extra push.

I also understand that pickup trucks are not built for high speeds (driveshaft might give out) but sometimes in my experience I have to floor it!.

It boggles me because like I said, for the first year it did 105 all stock. Now it went down to 98.

I have CAI, catch can and a magnaflow muffler. Not looking to tune it, its my highway driver.

Thanks for your feedback👍

Death wish doing 100 on any road, things happen faster than you can react, you have to be driving 1/4 mile in front of where you are, easy on a race track, not so easy with the nitwits on the road these days. To answer your question other than changing the tires or gear ratio there shouldn't be anything that would affect the limiter. I wonder if the Onstar may have done it? you said same size tires but not the same tires? there can be big differences in the circumference of different brands of tires

The truck came from factory 20" wheels on 275/60/R 20  Bridgestone Alanza tires. 800 miles ago I replaced all 4 tires with same size, brand tires( except the new tires are Alanza Plus) which are rated for higher speeds which that was not the reason I went with the plus tires. I got those because of the 80k warranty they have and work very well on wet conditions.

OnStar🤔?

Might need to look into that!

Thanks for your feedback👍

By the way guys, I have a track car and a 9 sec quarter car so do not think I want to make my truck fast especially a crew cab.

Thanks

Glad you posted the exact specs, I had the exact size and brand that came with the truck when bought new but my speed limiter was at 98mph.  I've read multiple threads and it seems 98 are set for this wheel/tire specification.  So...maybe your truck was "mis-programmed" and maybe you got a recent OTA update and it got flashed to match the true spec of the truck.
