Hopefully what's in store are price decreases, because i don't know who the hell will be able to afford these trucks with ever climbing interest rates!

It will be interesting to see if they go back to the square wheel wells again.

 

I have gotten more used to it than I was at first, but I would be all for going squared off again.

I went by the Flint assy plant today and saw a couple dozen trucks on the West side lot near the metal center lot just off of I-75. They all had a complete white vinyl wrap on them on them, sure looked like they were hiding something. Maybe some 26 pilot builds ?

How about increasing the HP & torque in the HD pickups with the gasoline 6.6L beyond 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque? FORD has us beat with their top gasser the 7.3L at 430 horsepower and 485 pound-feet of torque for their HD pickups.

GM has fallen behind in terms of performance as far as hp goes.   They have the engine on the shelf.  Drop the supercharged  LT4 in a pickup.   They already have in the Escalade so what's the hold up?

 

give it Magnetic ride control shocks.

Ditch the AFM and auto start/stop and give us better intake and exhaust.

 

Give us something we can tune.

The 'regular' 5.3 and 6.2 are getting left behind. The 5.3 especially and the 6.2 is just competitive. The premium engine (6.2) in GM truck lineup isn't any better than the competitions bread and butter engines.

 

Not really talking about the 2.7 turbo four (I think of this as an experiment still) or the inline diesel.

 

Seems like the new Tundra only has the one engine option that goes in every trim level and is for talking points equivalent to GM's premium 6.2. Ford and Ram both have an engine that GM can't even get close too.

 

Crash test ratings aren't class leading either.

 

My crystal ball says the future isn't looking bright for the traditional GM truck line. It seems their all in bet on electric is going to come back to haunt them. They have obviously been directing R&D funds to the electrics. I expect that the traditional  truck line future is looking a lot like the Express/Savana van line; just enough to stay some what relevant and make use of other part bin updated resources. 

 

The only exception is that there was reporting of investment and updates to the small block engines coming...

On GM's behalf, they have zero choice in the EV decisions.  Our current presidential administration has set MPG limits that no manufacture can meet with gas engines.  So to stay in business they have no choice but to dump all but a few gas cars/trucks and sell EV.   if you don't like it, vote for a change.

I get it... Makes me wonder what would be worse, build a vehicle you can't sell or pay the fines.

 

We really need(ed) hybrids to bridge the transition from ICE to EV.

 

I recall GMs reasoning - why spend effort on the baby step (hybrids), if the end game is EVs, go there. 

 

Except that - the public isn't ready/buying the EVs, so you alienate all your customers in the meantime. X years down the road when EVs ARE the norm you have to win back all your customers you alienated years ago - if you survive that long. 

 

Now as we are beginning to see - the focus on the EV's was too premature, the sales aren't there and hopefully GM can backtrack fast enough. 

 

Ironically, Ram or Stellantis (on the bigger scale) that didn't have the resources to develop the EVs is in a better position for not doing it. Same for Toyota except their delay to EVs was intentional.

 

GMs biggest EV problem was focusing on the Hummer, Silverado and Sierra first. To even suggest towing with an EV is a disaster considering that the recharge time is so long and the impact it has on range. Why would I buy an EV truck if I can't tow with it more than 100-150 miles - even if I only do it once a year - thats a major problem that everyone picked up on and highlighted. The skeptics concerns are now justified and turned off EVs. As a daily driver the trucks (EVs) are fine.

 

The EV Blazer, Equinox, etc... should have come first, the towing range issue goes away and the skeptics could become buyers if not proponents.

Has anyone heard anything about the new v8 engine they are going to build? 
size? It was announced a year ago. I figured some info would leak out about it by now! It was for trucks and SUV’s.

Honestly their V8s seem plagued with issues due to the EPA regulations. I'd rather them spend more time investing in the 3.0 duramax and making diesel mainstream in the 1/2 ton segment. EV is a pipe dream in my eyes and is doing nothing to solve the issue at hand whether you believe in climate change or not. When your grid runs on fossil fuels, you use nothing but exponential amounts of fossil fuels to mine lithium, and have no where to recycle it after the fact it really doesn't matter. Should've invested in fusion if they wanted renewable clean energy, we're simply not setup to be 100% EV, it's completely impractical for anyone who uses their vehicle outside of just transportation from A to B.

 

Hybrids I'm all for but this idea to abandon fossil fuels in a blink of an eye was and is asinine considering the false premise it's backed by.

I'm ok with the square wheels (though I prefer they don't) but what I will never buy is a vehicle where the steering wheel isn't centered with the drivers seat. I couldn't get past that!

      What I think you're saying is there is supply here at home, and in Venezuela, and we could ease pricing if only it were favorable to do so.   Well, yes?   But that's not the current market. Supply isn't what could someday exist, if only, it's what producers are willing to produce and sell at a certain price point.   The national price of single family homes would come way down if we'd just slap together a few million homes this summer.   RAM and GPUs would get a lot cheaper if we just set up some factories to produce a bunch more and stopped using it to build out AI data centers.

      I am experiecing the same issue, I have gone in the setting and disabled rain sensing function but I am still experiencing this. Whe i use my turn signal they will redomly turn on. Sometime they stay on and others times we swipe 2 or 3 times and stop. Its super anoying, escpecially after a fresh wash.       If we actually used any significant amount of that source in the USA then I'd agree but we don't. We've had that discussion before. We drill and pump more than we use. Thing is, we sell. We export. Gas and Crude. It's more profitable so any shortage here is self inflicted and LEGAL.    I worked a gas plant that has multiple fuel sources available and I worked in the furnace and boiler plant in that facility. I'd had days we swapped fuel types four times in a twelve hour shift which isn't done on supply but on margin. Two of the fuel sources are internally generated. Tail gas and DAK, both of which are sold as well a consumed. We always had more than we needed to run the process but we chose the fuel that produced the best margin not bought at the cheapest price always. A good bit of math to that and back in the time that was done on a slide rule.     I worked the Shale Oil Semiworks of Chevron Research and CONOCO Research in Salt Lake City. That process never went into production although it was very successful. Why? Did we lack oil bearing shale? Nope. Price of crude never made the margins work. That was in the late 70's early 80's. Remember history? What was happening then was a reaction to that situation. It didn't drive it. If so then it's easy. This isn't a supply and demand thing. This is a profit and margin thing and AI rules that now.    In no refining situation that I was ever in would a bomb hitting a well anywhere in the world 'instantly' interrupt or even distress the supply. Most plants have more than a months worth of crude in the tank field and more in pumping stations. That yo-yo could play out over days, weeks and maybe months and have zero impact on plant operations. How many times has this been off and on in the last few months? These people and not stupid. These plants measure down time in hundreds of thousands of dollars per day. They are not sucking fumes or waiting on the next truckload with baited breath. Besides, as I noted, they are for the most part 'vertically integrated'. They own it from the dirt is sits in to the delivery rack and sometimes to the pump. It has a HUGE shock absorber built in. When production suffers, refining wins and when refining is winning exploration is killing. The rest of that crap in the news is a 'news cycle'. Government dipping in to reserves? Oil is stealing their milk money. There's a reason Chevron abandon Venezuela infrastructure and it had nothing to do with security of US citizens. Nationals run those plants. it has to do with MARGINS disappearing to corruption. They are in no hurry to return. Is there supply there? Oh yea. More than enough to offset what is bought in the middle east. Just isn't ???? Profitable.    We have supply. There are places in Illinois you can drive a pipe into the ground and run your homes natural gas furnace on it.    A refinery fire will gum up the supply works but not a localized war where the market is using a limited supply from. Now Europe, that's something other....
