Interesting comment. I tried searching this forum before posting initially but found very little on the subject which is why I posted in the first place. I’m curious why you state it was “dismissed as not feasible”. Seems totally feasible to me if a aftermarket company offers a larger fuel tank for the same truck which is diesel powered and whose numbers are a fraction of the gas powered counterparts…. What am I missing Bikerjon? Who wouldn’t want the ability to go 600+ miles between fuel stops as opposed 380 or so?

So did you ever put a bigger tank in your truck?

I filled the tank today. I was running errands when I got the "Low Fuel" warning. I stopped and fueled it up to the brim. Some quick math:

  • Remaining Range Indicated = 50 (multiply by 2 to get a real ballpark of range with the 50-gallon tank)
  • Recent Avg MPG = 16.8
  • Calculated fuel in tank = 50(2)/16.8 = 5.95 gallons
  • Tank took 43.5 gallons per the pump
  • 5.95+ 43.5 = 49.45 gallons total
  • ~.5 gallon is not accounted for in the range calculation.

I'm surprised that there is only .5 gallon not accounted for in the calculations - the gauge is extremely accurate.

Photo from pump; I went to one of the cheaper places in town at $3.01/gallon

That's not 93 octane is it?  93 octane in west Florida is about $1 more.

Different states have widely varied retail prices for gas. Cost of supply, transport, and state tax are some of the variables. The post isn't about the price of gas - it's about the freedom of range the larger tank has.

Latest fill was with 725 miles on the tank at 15.8 mpg indicated. Took 45.4 gallons (US) and range indicated at 40 miles (~80 actual).

Zero issues.

Has anyone looked into to taking the Titan 43 gallon tank and using it for a gas-powered truck. Is this possible and how much modification would be needed?

Fuel stops are part of owning a vehicle, what's the problem?

Open highway Pepper gets about 25 mpg so one fuel stop between De Kalb Illinois and Denver. A forty gallon tank gets me there on zero. LOL. I stop for the day in Lincoln and stop several times a day. Often at a station. So...... My butt gives out before the tank does.

I’m always measuring time on trips. My odyssey will make the destinations these days without filling up. My trips are 6-7 hours mostly interstate driving. Rest stops are way quicker at rest areas than any gas stops. Saving me about an half an hour total. It makes a difference.

When towing a tall trailer on the interstate, I get 8-10mpg; for a stock range of ~184 miles max. I find this unacceptable, especially driving across the great plains at night. Looking for gas every 130 miles isn't a good feeling (or probably less, where is the next town with an all-night station that isn't 20 miles off the highway?) .

I don't put many miles on my truck; but when I do, it is often the above scenario. Having double the range makes my travel less stressful: I buy gas when I need a break, not every gas station.

It's not for everyone; but I love my 50 gallon tank!

I had a 100 gallon tank. I tapped into the return with an old fashioned manual switch by the driver seat. It was awhile ago I don’t know if you could do it on new trucks. I also had a fuel pump on the tank.

I'm sure it can be done. I need the space in the bed for other things.

I had an L tank with a tool box on top. Even an air compressor behind it. They were in front of my gooseneck ball. All that was in front of my fender well. Plenty of additional room in the bed.
