General Motors is actively preparing for the launch of the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, with substantial developments underway at their Fort Wayne, Indiana, production facility. This strategic preparation involves significant downtime and investment to ensure these popular trucks meet future demands with innovative features and technologies.

This is one reason for downtime, produce the vehicles for the test fleet..

First of all as part of the development program we typically have small numbers of vehicles that we put out in the hands of people that drive them on a daily basis. That’s a part of our development program that occurs prior to production. We call that a “captured test fleet”. Captured meaning we know where the vehicles are and we know who the drivers are, and test fleet because the vehicle aren’t in production yet. We use the versions that we build at the tail end of the development cycle to really put them out there on a daily basis to get better understanding of what’s going on with the vehicles.

I sure hope there is a place for a regular cab short bed in their plans.

I love my '22 and '16.  I hope they continue to make them available in the states.

Here in the last year or so I have seen more and more people talking about them and buying them again....good sign!

They build what sells.

If there was sufficient demand for a single cab GM would be building them. Its similar to a small group complaining about wanting low content trucks. They vote for a Government thats more intrusive and then complain when mandates load up new vehicles. The fact is that someone buying a tin can truck isnt likely the same as the person that leases or buys a new one every 2-3 yrs. The tin can truck is a lifer. As a business who would you cater to, the every 2-3 yr customer or the person that buys one new truck in a lifetime ?

"They build what sells."

OR

They build what dealers order and maximizes profits.....and people buy what are on the lots.

I have run into a "lot" of people that had no idea you could still buy a regular cab because there are none on the lots for people to see that aren't long bed work trucks.

But anyway.....not to get off topic.

I just hope they still make them in the new model.

I am sure it varies regionally but around here the people I know at a couple of dealers say that they dont order them because they languish on the lot.  I am sure money plays a role also and they no doubt make more on a highly optioned unit but the lot is stocked by what the dealer thinks they can turn over.

The people who want boutique things like single cab short bed HD with roll up windows and tiny mirrors likely don't end up buying it new anyway. Same for the "they should put an LT4 in a Blazer"!, then if GM ever spent the millions to do it, they wouldn't buy it. Dealers work in volume and stats. Most of the admin there don't even care about cars and are not car guys and don't even follow the industry. People that frequent this site and GM Authority are often FAR more informed than the typical sales manager. People assume since they work there they will have all the inside info and special access to GMs upcoming....etc. They don't care. It's all just metal to move to them. They know what sells based on history. Loaded up expensive trucks sell. Mid trim trucks (LTs) mid trim CUVs....etc sell. En masse. Boutique stripper trucks and expensive toys like Camaro V8s don't move the needle for them.

Sure hope they do a better job at quality control and focus on customer retention.  This 2020 2500hd Diesel I have is a lemon.

Well if Mary and team screw up this next version of the Silverado/ Sierra truck as bad as they have screwed up the introduction, startup and sales of the new Colorado/Canyon, then this may spell Mary's demise!

I grew up in a time when companies listed to the customer, now GM seem intent on ramming electric down our throats. And giving us versions of trucks especially that real truck folks are not completely happy with.

Any more updates on product development for the next gens?

I'm kinda shooting in the dark a bit here but my guess for 1500s being unveiled is possibly 2026 calendar year for 2027 model year.  I'd love to see them be 2026 MY but doesn't seem likely.

I say this based on the fact that the 2025 order guide, GM streamlined a bunch of things on 1500.  4 colors deleted, 2 added, cruise control is standard on all trims, brake controller is standard LT and higher (including the cheap 2FL), etc.  The first round of T1 trucks was MY 2019-2022, 4 model years, the MCE is 2022.5-2025 so far, so final year sounds likely to be 2026 perhaps.

The other questions of course, does the L3B stay or get a gen 2 (I sure hope it does as I love the L3B), what gets the Gen 6 first, trucks or Corvette?  Has the Gen 6 already been seen (LT6/LT7 and GM goes DOHC)?  Do we get a 3rd version of the 3.0 Duramax?  Hybridization on a gas V8?  Obviously how will it look?  Perhaps more mixed materials (I'd love to see the boxes all go carbonpro/composites)?

It seems like the CarbonPro has mostly vanished from the current trucks (or at least, you don’t hear about them much).  I have been haunting dealerships lately and rarely see it.  Wonder if it will continue to be offered? At first GM made a big deal about it.

I’m reminded of the ProTec composite bed on the 800s that was a neat idea but ended up being rarer than hen’s teeth.

    • Because that is IDIOTIC, much like this question. They've already been forced to do it by past administrations - why would you roll that back when it's a GOOD thing?  WHO IS ARGUING FOR LOWER MILEAGE???? 😂  NOBODY IS!!   I'm certainly not! What I want is RELIABLE vehicles again that are worth the price paid!    I don't get your logic here ...   In 2003 I paid $2,200 for our '86 Grand Marquis. It's STILL running and I've never been inside the engine, aside for the timing cover since it was leaking, so I threw a new timing set in since that makes sense. Transmission is ORIGINAL. Electric pump in the gas tank is ORIGINAL. Rear end is ORIGINAL. I'd have to hit my head REAL hard to want to pay $60k or more for a car that still can't come close to the comfort, seating and storage space, or reliability of this one. Nothing is even in the ball park! Hundreds of thousands of brands and models have been built and sent to the crusher while this one keeps on going!   https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   I've got a whole fleet of cars, motorcycles, and a truck close to this age for summer and winter. No one could pay me enough to buy anything built this century. I have zero use for any it.
    • Since I'm the one who has to fix them when they break, I'll take vehicles over 30 years old all day, EVERY day, over ANY modern crap. Have you attempted any repairs on anything built after 2006? It's a friggin nightmare, and gets worse the newer the model year.    If I had the will or desire, I can make any car of any age outside of a Model T (I don't have THAT much will ...) just as powerful, comfortable, and have all the tech the new stuff does, and get pretty close in mileage, too. I prefer SIMPLICITY. The less the vehicle has, the less to fix WHEN it breaks, not IF.   I'm glad you snot-nosed punks don't like them. More for us, plus that keeps the prices from climbing more than they already have.👍
    • Bringing this thread back on topic. I just noticed the incredible lack of bright chrome across the entire new lineup. Even the Denali has tinted the brightwork in the grille and has none elsewhere. None of them have chrome bumpers. As far as I can tell there aren't even chrome mirror caps. I'm curious if this also happens out back? Are there no chrome rear bumpers either? This is quite the departure for GMC.
