I am preparing to replace my current tires. My gut says replace with Michelin ltx as2. We do take a lot of ungroomed dirt roads, nothing extreme while towing. I have a 2019 GMC 1500Denali. Really only 2 other choices with a load rating of 115 or more. The K03 and the DUELER A/T ASCENT. The K03's might stiffen the ride, and while towing wouldn't break my heart. I know the Denali is designed for a smooth quite ride, not worried about noise. I already upgraded the exhaust, so it is a little throaty. 

I would love some input.

I replaced the stock tires on a 2020 with Michelin Defender LTX M/S 265/65/18. I have them on over two years, 99% city/rural paved road driving. I do not tow or haul heavy loads. The main reason I swapped out the stock was to improve wet traction. No constant wheel spin on wet roads now. I purchased at Costco, really can't beat all the extras as annual balancing, rotation etc. I think they have free installation now also. I have never used Dueler or KO3 so no opinion on them.

My opinion from being in the tire business for the past 15+ years is not to run a LT tire if you don't require it.

 

The KO3 is a good tire but they cost way too much and they only come in LT's, so they are heavier and will slightly reduce ride quality and for some fuel mileage.

 

The Michelin LTX are great tires but again a little spendy. Other really good options are the Nittio terra grappler like posted above, the Toyo Open County AT3's (I put those on my Moms Silverado), Hankook DynaPro RF10 or RF11's I think.

 

There are other cheaper tires that I know are good tires too but most people have not heard of them or may not want to use them as the tread life won't be as long compared to a higher end tire. Again it always comes down to budget and what people use the vehicle for. Some of those tires may last someone really long time if they don't put on 15k miles a year like some people do.

I've been putting the Michelins on my truck since 2003.  I couldn't wait for the stock Bridgestones to wear out - they are garbage in the wet.

I put KO3's on mine and they ride great. Better in the rain that the stock GY tires were. No noticeable drop in MPG either.

I swore I wouldn't use anything but the BFG All Terrains on my trucks - except I don't like the slightly tighter tread pattern on the KO3 vs KO2. I'm leaning towards the HD Terrain.

This struck me as odd, because tread life is part of what makes a 'good' tire to me.  Not arguing, calling you out or insulting...

I'm more so talking about tire that come with 45-50k mile tread wear life compared to others that say 60-65k. And honestly unless you only drive freeway and never scrub your tires around town, getting 65k+ real usable miles out the tire is on the slim side. Where I live a tire is basically useless at 5/32nd when it comes to winter.

 

Alot of these tires can cost hundreds of dollars less per set and if you don't put on 20k a year, they can be worth the buy. You'll still get 5 years easy out of a set of tires.

That's a you thing lol.

 

Around here it just doesn't happen that often for most tires, not with our climate and dealing with snow. Tires will still have tread on them and look okay but they will still be useless in the winter. It kinda sucks because if it was summer you'd still have another 10k of use with them.

Same here. Went with the Michelins as soon as I could justify it.  Probably left at least 10K miles on the stock tires, but I’m happy with the Michelins.

I replaced the good in the dry but awful in the wet and winter conditions oem Bridgestone Dueler at. With the Bridgestone Dueler AT Ascent. After 3000 miles since early October and finally driving around in a nasty winter storm 2 weeks ago that had up to 10 inches of snow along with mixed freezing rain and sleet that I drove around in for 14 hours this tire is freaking awesome. It’s way better than the tire it replaced.

My '22 Sierra came with BFG KO2s from the dealer and, looking at the tread pattern, I assumed they would be awful in the rain. I was wrong they are the best AT tires I've ever used and I've used alot of them since 1989. They do not break traction on a wet road they are great. On my '14 Silverado that I traded in, I was running Toyo Open Country. They were pretty good on wet roads but would break traction occasionally. This was the 2nd set of Toyo's I ran on it. The 1st set was identical and I was determined to get 60,000 miles out of them as that's what they're rated for, so I just kept running them and I did get to 60,000 on them, but they were bald and borderline not really safe to run at that point I should've replaced them sooner. The worst ones I ever had were Uniroyal Laredo's and those were dangerous in the rain it's a wonder I survived to get 40,000 miles on them before I replaced with GY Wranglers.

    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
