The irony of that is all you'd have to do is put it in neutral and then stop as shown at the end of the video. Dang shame people had to die over this. It could happen to any truck/car thats got the throttle electronically controlled. We all complain in the newer truck that the throttle doesn't open fast enough... due to the electronics

Not sure why automakers felt the need to remove the human touch for something so significant. :D

This has happened to pretty much every manufacturer once they started using "Drive by Wire".

But it also used to happen back in the day of Carbs too don't forget. Sticky plates burred cables, a lot of things can cause a throttle to stick. But it was usually due to poor maintenance...or if nothing else, easily identifiable as the cause.

In the DbW cases, who knows what really happens...be nice to have a data logger on one when it does happen though, just to see what really happened.

Its Shitty that people have to die from it.

Ironically enough though, the advert that popped up when I clicked the link was for Imodium....Toyota's really give me the shits :D:cool::D

I had a throttle stick on my 91 Cougar, scared the sh*t out of me as I was only 17 when it happened. I just put it in neutral stopped and very quickly shut the car off until I figured out that the throttle was sticking under the hood.

I had the throttle stick on a couple different late model Dodge 3/4's on me when i used to work for the government. I imagine all manufactureres have had this problem one time or another

Had a throttle stick on a Dodge Daytona as I was approaching a toll booth, first thing that came to mind was put her in N and flip on the hazards and some to a safe stop. It was even more nerve racking with that genre of car cause it was a pos and had a plague of problems. Another time the problem happened because of the turbo waste gate malfunctioning. I have a feeling had the shifter been on the floor, the driver would have reacted by placing it in N after the throttle stuck. For some reason, having a floor mounted shifted, regardless if it's a auto or a a stick, most people tend to rest their hand on the shifter while driving.

Dangerous!

Between that and the truck frames rusting out prematurely they are heading for some hefty bills to pay.

What I find hard to believe is that a state trooper did not have knowledge enough to shift to neutral to stop the car.

I think the proof of not having enough knowledge was shown when the Tojo was bought.

I love how they try to minimize everything! Sad thing is that because it's a Toyota people will fall for it.

I hope it's the beginning of their fall. They're far too smug for their own good.
