Gmt900 4wd Gauge Light Adapter

I'm nervous to open a dash, but I really like the idea of this! :uhoh:

Just so I understand, when it's in "Auto" the light is yellow, regardless of whether the 4WD is engaged?

What about using two LEDs of red and green. You could use each individually to make the red and green, and both together to form yellow. Just a thought.

I played around with this a little but the problems was the LEDs had to be physically offset and having the LEDs offset means they wouldn't combine over the symbol evenly so the top of the sybol would be more green and the bottom would be more red or the other way around

The yellow light will blink while its changing and when its engaged in auto its solid.

Still pretty reluctant to butcher up my gauge cluster like that, but I sure would love to have the 4x4 light functional! Drove in "auto" on dry roads again last week for about 30 miles because I forgot to switch it back...

I guess I'm waiting to see if other people try it and are able to do it without problems.

You can drive in Auto all the time if you want.

It is stupid for GM not to put an indicator. I have left mine in auto for a few days because I forgot about it after driving in the snow.

Well, there IS an indicator, it's just harder to see than it was in any previous GM trucks.

I'm just finishing up the first batch. Some parts for the LED insert are cnc laser cut but there was a compatibility issue with the engineering program I use and what the laser cutter uses. I have the control modules ready to go so once the led insert parts are made then they will be ready for shipping (should be Wednesday).

Yes, you can drive in auto all the time, but the fuel mileage suffers quite noticeably.

After a lot of development and design changes, the Adapters are ready to ship. I make them in batches of 10 and of the first batch 7 are still available. The shop manager at the place where I was doing the laser cutting wanted one and I offered to install it for him so I can film the process for you guys. I'm going to send messages to those that said they what one in the order posted.

Here are the videos on a 09 1500 with the truck type dash

Part 3 will be up soon, still editing.

I just ordered a kit for the Sierra.

I have been in and out of 4hi, auto and 2wd at least 50 times in the last 3 weeks!

I'll pass on the ease ( I hope) of the install.

Does anyone know if I can buy a Z71 guage overlay? Rather than buying a whole cluster?

You would probably have to get lucky and find someone selling it off a truck they changed gauges in to something else....
