2010 Silverado Crewcab System Install!

Too much amp draw, or popping fuses mind you, can only be from just that, too much amp draw. Weather it is lack of supply, too small of cable, poor ground or too much draw from the amps for some reason. Poor connections anywhere will cause it too. Better be careful, btw. If you popping that amount of fuses of that amperage, that much, stuff could catch on fire easy.

its weird. i ran a ground straight from the battery back and it still did it. its if you really crank it up. the 25 amp fuses on the amp is poping. 3 of them. im runing a 0 gauge wire back. split to a 4 into the amp. with a 100 amp fuse. i checked all the connections. every single wire. power. ground. wires to the subs. i played with the settings some. its okay now. so ill wait and see. i should be heading back to cali in a few weeks. i want to put my type r's in and see how they sound. and see if its still poping those fuses. i went though 12 today already trying to figure out whats wrong. also when i run only one sub and crank it up until the sub starts to distort. and turn it down a bit. it just hits! no fuses pop. im clueless on what the issue is.

I think your amp can handle a low impedance 1/2 ohm or 1 ohm but I was just curious how you have your subs run (bridged, etc.) Depending upon the setup it can make a hard load on the amp. It made me wonder based on your running the one sub comment. I noticed you don't have your type R's per your commit in currently so not sure if that could be causing issues. The type r I believe is dual voice coil 4 ohm and setting up this versus other subs could affect the ohms load. If you have a ohms meter it may be worth seeing what level it shows to be putting out. Just my random thoughts from reading your issue not sure they are worth anything. Thanks for your write up it has been helpful as I just installed a JL 13tw5 sub with 500.1v2 and loving the sound this small enclosure makes.

thanks for the input. my type r were 4 ohm wired parallel. these polks are the same. wired the same way. im stumped. its working fine right now though. well see. some songs make it pop

Ok I have a few questions.

#1. What am I seeing here? Where are all the wires going.

 

#2. Where did you find that box.

 

#3 did you have to trim the doors to fit the 6 3/4 and did you fish the speaker wire thru the door for the cross over or did you just tap into the factory wires to accomplish getting them in there.

 

That should be it. Killer install I did install professional for a few years and your job looks top notch. :thumbsup:

No progress then? It isnt a good idea to blow that many fuses either. When you say you connect one sub, have you connected one to each channel and turned it up or just disconnected one and tried the other? If thats why you did connect the opposite one and see if it can run just that one sub. It is starting to sound like an amp problem. Did you check your remote wire for a short too?

If the remote wire were to short it would blow the radio. That's how we used to get rid of radios we didn't want at bestbuy and circuit city.

I call bs on that, a remote wire that is grounded out wont blow a head unit, maybe if you tried to run 12v into the head unit from it then it might but it is just a 5v switched power source so it isnt going to blow anything up. How it could blow an amp fuse is it would tell the amp to go off then back on which with the amp at high volume could blow a fuse in the amp.

its bridged. when i ran one sub bridged and turned it up it was fine. and then tried the other sub and it was fine. the gain is on about 20%. i didnt check the remote wire.

Right. Maybe touching off the remote wire to the amp battery feed would pop the hu but not shorting it to ground.

Ok, lets work through this here, you have subs with dual 4ohm voice coils, how you you have them wired? Series for 8 ohm per sub or parallel for 2ohm per sub? Then how do you have the two subs wired together to run the amp bridged? Also are you using the correct two speaker outs for the bridged operation? It looks like it should be the two inside on yours.

maybe that's how we cooked them. This was all done 8 years ago.

i didnt install the subs in the box before and i never took them out to see how they were wired

alternator to dis block. dis block to to each battery. alt to amp fuse

 

the sub box? its from subthump.com

 

you dont have to cut the doors. i got adapters from crutchfield and it fit right in

 

for the speaker wires i taped into the stock. because everything had to pass through the os4 for my bluetooth.

can you come install all of that stuff in my truck when your done and worked out all the glitches???
