I definitely wouldn't want Ram-type ex. cab doors. The ability to have the entire side of the cab open to me is a huge plus. The forward opening doors were one of the things that made me turn away from the Ram honestly. The current doors make getting back there as an adult there way easier, same thing with putting a booster seat (and in turn, the kid in the seat) way easier, without the doorframe or the door getting in the way.

I don't have kids myself but I've watched the son of a friend of mine several times over the years and loading him into this truck is easy. In my Tacoma, even though the back seat was bigger, having to work around the limitation of the door frame and the door to get the seat and him in there was a pain in the ass. With this truck, I just slide the front seat forward some and I have all the room in the world.

That just means that you and I are two against the hundreds of thousands that want the extended cab doors to open without having to open the front doors. I like my truck the way it is for the same reason you like your's the way it is. Again though, we're the minority.

I agree that having them open forward would kind of defeat the purpose. If you use the back seat for passengers that often you should probably move into the crew cab. I bought the extended cab because I wanted a little more room than the standard cab and to have the option to put people back there if needed. My back seat is used so infrequently that I almost always have it flipped up. The only downside to having them open suicide is that the piece of weather stripping at the bottom almost always hits the car next to me in parking spaces not allowing me to open them all the way. That would be the only thing I would fix.

I like them to open like the Ram's because that gives a pillar in the middle of the cab adding more support, and a more rigid structure.

jdubya-

I rarely have passengers either, but when I do the layout of the doors makes the most of the smaller area.

Daryl-

The extended cabs already have significantly better side crash ratings than Ram. I don't know what more you'd want.

Less Cab noise from it flexing more since theres less support.

Make that three. I love the suicide doors of the extended cabs.

+4

I think they are great. Makes for much better access when loading into the back because you don't have the post there.

That's exciting to finally see something! I just really wish this isnt final design and they move AWAY FROM SQUARE WHEEL WELLS! Give us round ones already! This Topic could be moved to the K2 Platform forum

You could always buy a GMC, they have the rounded wheel wells. I think maybe that is why GM builds two different trucks. I like the fender flares on the Chevy better, especially on a black truck.

The GMC wheel wells look the same as the Silverado, they are not that much different. When guys say rounded wheel wells, they are talking about the look of the Ram truck wheel wells, they're round.

Posted

Sierra wheel wells are totally diff. Look at the bedside, chevy's are flared, gmc's are rounder and smaller.

Posted

in that pic, you can clearly see that the front wheel well is square, the back is round. That will be one messed up looking truck! LOL

mirrors look really small for a full size truck.

This is not good news then. I want truck mirrors and if they are just changing the front end and rear tail lights not good enough. I want a full redesign. All motors should gain HP. should be 3.6L v6 twin turbo, 5.3L with like 380hp and 6.2L with 430hp.
