Anyone mounted CB (or ham/scanner/...) to headliner on NBS?

Has anyone had any success mounting anything to the headerliner / top console in the NBS trucks? On my '06 I had my CB mounted in front of the rear view mirror to the headliner. It was very easy to use the radio there. I ran the wires through the headerliner and down the side out of sight.

I can't figure out how to do this on my 2011 2500. It is a WT model, so the only thing I have above is that plastic piece with the two lights on it. I haven't pulled the headerliner down yet to see what is behind there, but I fear that plastic console piece up at the top will put the radio too far below the rearview mirror. I am trying to figure out some way to mount my radio there and have it out of the way of the rear view mirror. Has anyone had any success there? If so can you post a pic to give me an idea?

Thanks everyone.

Matt,

I don't have a 2500 WT, I have a 1500 LT. Just from what I have seen I think you can do the same thing I did to mount my amplifier on the back cab wall.

When I removed the seats and the sound dampening matt the sheet metal has a bunch of recessed squares and rectangles. I cut a piece of 1/2 inch MDF and used Loctite Construction Adhesive to sick it to the sheet metal. The MDF panel sits flush with the rest of the cab wall. Now when I mount the amp I can use short screws right into the MDF and not puncture the sheet metal.

If you take you headliner down you will see the roof sheet metal has these same recessed areas (makes the roof stronger). I've seen it in plenty of pictures... you should have enough room to glue in some 2 inch or so strips of MDF which will remain flush with headliner. Just figure out what you need to put where so they line up with your CB bracket wherever you want it to sit. When you reinstall the headliner you won't even be able to see that anything is under there. Only draw-back is that you are going to drive screws through headliner material to attach the CB bracket. If you use this method just remember to clean sheet metal with alcohol or laquer thinner before applying glue.

Matt, I just got finished adding Sound Deadening Material to the entire roof of my truck. After I pulled all the hardware and the liner down I was pretty surprised to see all the stuff and mounting holes up there that are NOT used. Like your 2500 WT, my 1500 LT only has the center plastic mount with two lights. Once that is out you will see a large metal bracket that is front of that. You could use self-tapping sheet metal screws and attach a CB bracket directly to it, no worries about puncturing the roof because there is plenty of room behind the bracket.
