Usually when it fails, it'll stay disengaged when you turn the key .. but anything's possible. When that happens the starter won't spin or click at all - sometimes clicking the ignition key to start a bunch of times will get it to engage ... but at that stage, it's not long before your stuck at the last place you stop.

Fair enough, it is an assumption on an assumption as well so not the end of the world. Thanks for the info. I'll have to figure out a way to test it.

Anyone know what a stock 6.2 ( truck) is doing the quarter in?..I'm hearing 14.9 to 15.9. Thought the hemis were running high 15's already..before they bumped the horsepower up in the ram.

I've got a 2013 Sierra Denali, pretty much all stock, muffler delete, and a CAI but no tune yet... I'll have to post the pic later when I get back to the shop, but I ran a 15.5 at Tulsa Raceway Park. I'm hoping with a tune I'll drop into the high 14's but we'll see. Does anybody on here have a preference on a tuner? I'm leaning more towards a custom tune from XP Racing in OKC, but they don't have an AWD Dyno...

Hey,

 

Any resources on this website for exhaust systems or muffler swaps for the the 6.2L? I have an '13 CC with the 6.2L and want to make it a little louder then stock. Looking for ideas.

 

I was thinking of just doing a swap for a straight through muffler and keeping the rear resonator or thinking of deleting the muffler altogether and keeping the stock resonator but that may be too loud for me.

 

Seems cheaper then a full system to basically achieve the same thing... Magnaflow has a straight through 3.5'' in/out muffler for about $100 that seems would work well.

I wanted the same thing, the truck sounds great stock but my imagination ran wild with how awesome it would sound if it were uncorked a little. I just deleted the muffler (which was the size of a small bath tub) left the resonator after the axle and I'm pretty happy with it. I could probably go back and re-weld the pipe that the muffler shop put in to seal up any small leaks that may be present. But over all I can set off near by car alarms with cold starts in the morning haha

The resonator is basically straight through and will not restrict flow at all, it does its job to help control drone without hurting performance at all. The huge muffler is not a problem in my opinion, it sits under the truck and I never see it. Flo-Pro makes a muffler that is made for the 6.2 trucks with correct offsets and 3.5" single in/out that flows a little better than factory and slightly louder than factory. They make another that is 3 chamber design with 4" in/out that flows even better (and louder) than their 3.5". If the muffler was going into a much lighter vehicle the size and weight would influence me to look for something else but then I would be more concerned about the power lost by my GM 22's compared to factory 20's. Reciprocating mass will slow down your rate of acceleration because of extra weight but more so because the extra weight is farther from the center line of your axle.

 

To keep it smog legal I'm planning to install C6 ZO6 or ZR! 3" cats on a Kooks y-pipe and eliminate my 3rd cat. Downstream I may install a Flo-Pro muffler if the cats and y don't give me enough exhaust note.

So had a chance to start it this morning. Luckily it doesnt sound like a metallic noise like I thought, it more sounds like a snuff noise. Almost like a valve cover breather. Kind of strange. Thoughts?

 

 

 

Mine was making a slight ticking noise so I brought it into dealer to check under 100k powertrain warranty. They found a broken motor mount and a cracked exhaust manifold. Replaced them both free of charge and sent me on my way with a smile of relief.

So I guess its time to add to the group. I have a GMC reg cab SWB 4X4 that is now sporting the guts and drivetrain from a 2013 Silverado L9H, NHT truck. This is the truck that GM should have built. Its been a bit of a project and not quite done as I'm having a few CEL/Airbag lights but I have good friends with the right equipment to address those issues. Just waiting for the weather to get better. Was able to utilize all of the factory exhaust from the L9H minus the muffler, was a bit too long so I had a local shop put in a Dynomax bullet. Sounds pretty good and not too much louder than stock.

Salvage yard. The frame had damage at the rear so I was able to use the front clip and cab for another project.

Yes, GM should have built this! I see you have the high end interior too. I like it!

The only thing that will not look correct is the drivers door switches as they never made the switch panel for only 2 windows. It will be nice to have the cooled seats for the summer.

    • I have the same running boards on my truck and I do agree they are bulky. I also find myself stepping over them when getting in and out of the truck. Besides providing protection to the rocker panels, they aren't very useful.  I will be replacing them soon with the Amp Powersteps. 
    • Monthly payment is only part of the equation. With today's prices and interest rates, I'd look at the total monthly cost: payment, insurance, registration, fuel, maintenance, and expected repairs. A vehicle that fits comfortably into your budget is usually the better choice than stretching for a higher trim. I've also kept my vehicles longer over the past few years. New cars have gotten expensive enough that driving one for 10+ years, while staying on top of maintenance, often ends up being the most cost-effective approach.
    • 10 Ford and Chevy engines proven to reach 300,000 miles   You may note a common 3K OCI on this list of gas motors. I skipped over the diesels. Dh'O. 
    • Thanks newdude!  By the time manual selection is needed, I'm probably too much of a control-freak to depend on the transmission sensing braking to activate automatic downshifting.  I would be anticipating the situation and already be manually downshifting.   This truck replaced a 2004.5 LLY diesel with the Allison 5-speed.  Putting it in T/H made noticeable differences (when the torque converter locked, upshift points, downshift behavior).  On this 2024 gasser with the 10L1000 I haven't been able to detect much, if any, difference.  Ok, I can never tell now when the torque converter locks up.  But I also don't notice differences in shifting.  For downhills, I've probably already manually downshifted by then anyway.  Since it's also more awkward (than the 2004.5) to engage/disengage I don't even bother.  Or maybe it doesn't really matter with just a 3k lb. camper in the bed?   Thanks also for the list of reasons the charging system might select various voltages.  However, what I am seeing doesn't fall into any of those categories.  It very definitely, and very consistently, rises after coasting/braking.  Maybe not immediately, but not very long after coasting/braking.  Very consistently drops voltage when no longer coasting/braking.  It might also be interacting with the camper battery charging (I might disconnect the camper and see if it changes the charging behavior).  I also need to recheck turning on headlights for when I want to force it to charge the camper.   Another JR, in June I converted the camper to LiFePO4.  Since it's not a good idea to try to charge lithiums directly using truck, I installed a Victron Orion XS DC-DC charger (which BTW is AMAZING!!).  Being cheap, I only had to buy that one item (besides the battery, of course) to do the conversion.  The camper OEM 120v battery charger (only 19 years old and works perfectly) and the truck feed the input to the DC-DC charger (not at the same time).  But I didn't want the camper charger feeding back to the truck so I kept the old separator.  I considered replacing the separator with a 30amp diode but that means more work and might add another 1/2 volt drop.  One thing that surprised me was the voltage drop over the long 10awg wire run, so I can only charge smoothly at 8 amps (because the DC-DC charger is completely configurable).  Another reason I don't want an added voltage drop with the diode.  I might also be a little lazy but all this work is being done under the sink with a small cabinet opening.    
    • apparently CA smog is (or at least was)  checking that the vehicle is using the oem and/or a ca smog approved tune, so I expect you'll fail inspection doing it.
