Battery Replacement

I've been getting about 3.5 years out of the batteries in my truck. I tend to change them out before they strand me, mostly when it seems that cranking has slowed down. How long have you gotten with yours? I use ACDelco 72 month batteries. For the price (78 bucks) they have done me pretty well.

I am very partial to the "Optima Yellow" deep cycle battery. Even though my vehicle is new (2012), there are too many electrical gadgets for the standard battery to handle (in the long run).

I went 7 years on the original factory battery. My drive to the beach this summer was about 6 hours, MD to Kill Devil Hills, NC. So as a preventative maintenance procedure I swapped out the battery. I did not want to be stranded on vacation with a dead battery. I hope the new battery I installed last summer lasts as long as the original AC-Delco.

I live in the same climate as the OP, don't know why you are only getting 3.5 years out of your battery. Anyway 80 bucks every 3.5-4 years is not too bad.

My '06 was built in 7/05. Original battery. I will be ordering an Optima in the next few weeks, because I know I am living on borrowed time!

AC Delco, NAPA, or Interstate, which I believe are all made by Johnson Controls, just like Optima is as well. I've been getting feedback from some people that the Optimas do not like to be discharged and re-charged a whole lot (as in leaving accessories on without the vehicle on for long periods of time) as it causes early failure on the gel type batteries.

I will agree on the Optima "Red Top" starting batteries, but the "Yellow Top" deep cycles don't mind too much be discharged/recharged. The Yellows need a lot longer to recharge properly as compared to the Reds. This is only my first hand experience opinion based on the equipment I work on in the military. Other opinions will vary dependent of user & application so no insult to anyone.

Do some searcing on here for Odyssey.

I love mine. One of the best batterys you can buy! Optima use to be top dog, but have gone down hill. Some get lucky with them and they last , but others go through them ..

I would never buy another non AGM battery.

ACDelco is not Johnson Controls. Check out this site, it tells you all the JC batteries:

I think Penn Manufacturing (Deka) used to make the ACDelco batteries. I kind of get the feeling they are made by Exide now, from the looks of them.

Deka is stll made by East Penn manufacturing. They also make Carquest batteries and Sea-volt batteries, maybe others too. I have both, Seavolt and Carquest batteries in my boat and they have been great! I don't think you can beat them for the cost. http://www.dekabatte....aspx?pageid=30

AC Delco batteries are made by PowermaxUSA.

Well, I have 150k on my 04, I drive it pretty hard. The first replacement was at 3.5-4 years just as a safety measure. The second one was because it started to crank slow. Like you said, 80 bucks every 3-4 ain't bad.

After my bad experience with 3 AC Delco side post batteries (3 batteries failed and leaked in 3 different GMs just outside of 36 months) I switched to Autozone Duralast batteries. They have all lasted past 8 years.
