Ok, I own a sierra, which might not give me rights to post about my 95 GMC Safari V8, but its my second vehicle, and was just wondering if you wouldn't mind bothering with my question considering its quite similar?

After shutting off the engine 1/2L of antifreeze dumped out of the passenger side. I checked the coolant tank, and it had bubbles coming to the surface as it was leaking. It emptied just below the "Full" mark, and stopped (So we were overfull on the tank). I couldn't trace the leak and It has not happened since.

could it be a hose clamp, water pump, freeze plug, shrinking/expanding rad crack? any ideas?

Not sure what cooling system looks like on the vehicle, but, if the rad cap is on the coolant tank that had the bubbling coolant in it, then it sounds like the truck is overheating, or rad cap is not holding pressure. Keep in mind that the rad cap will raise the boiling point of water by 4 degrees per pound of pressure, so, a 15 pound rad cap will stop water from overheating until it hits about 267 degrees. If the coolant is at 220 degrees and the rad cap is good, the coolant will not boil, but, if the rad cap is not holding pressure, coolant will boil at 212.

Check the rad cap and the neck it mounts to for pressure leak.

Okay, but the temp was reading 115, 100 being mid range, 250 being in the red. The bubbling was the air coming up as it was leaking out of the tank, it had stopped as the lvl went below the fill line.

Though there is an overflow at the top of the tank that drains right through to the dirt, i think it was draining out with gravity?

I cant figure it out. I drove it today again, and there were no problems.

if temp was reading 100 to 115, with red being 250, you have problems. 100 is way too cold an operating temp. You may want to check and make sure there is something in the rad. The only way you can have it at 100 when fully warmed up is if you are in Canada and the gauge is in Celsius, or there is nothing in the cooling system to touch the temp sensor, or the temp sensor is bad. If you are seeing bubbles coming up in the tank, where do you think the bubbles are coming from?

lol. that's funny actually, it is in Celsius, and I do live in Canada :)

As for the bubbles its hard to tell, as they were only air bubbles coming up as the coolant was leaking out of the coolant fluid reservoir.

Please note the washer fluid is on the left side of the coolant, even though its called a washer fluid reservoir.

I don't think this is going anywhere though... so I don't mind giving up on this one. Thanks for your help
