From looking at the new trucks on the websites, the struggle on whether to get a slider or defrost is over you will be able to get a slider with defrost. Best of both worlds.

Agreed! I opted for the slider because that's just an option I really like but being able to get both will be even better!

On a different note, any one else not crazy about the them getting rid of the suicide doors on the extended cab? I really like them on my 09, makes it really easy to get big items in the back cab.

During Hurricane Sandy, I was lucky enough to be at a home depot that just happened to get a pallet of 6K Watt generators when I was there (they were gone in like 15 mins). I was able to shoehorn the box into the back cab trough the passenger side by moving the seat up and opening both doors so I didnt have to worry about it growing legs when in the parking lot of other stores. It wouldnt have been possible with a pillar in the way.

I think I would really like the chevy with a painted front end.

I agree, you do lose some access with the pillar there, but you get a stronger cab with that post.

They could have done something unique by keeping the 170 degree suicide hinge that they had, BUT still put the pillar there & a handle on the outside to open the back door free of having the front door open. So you would still gain the crash test stuff & people will buy unique as no other truck would have that set up.

Just came home from auto show in Toronto, saw the 2014 trucks. One major issue for me is the pillar post is. We took my buddy's 2012 crew cab down, and I had no issue with the pillar post. 2014 has the pillar inboard about 6 inches, causing my arm/shoulder to be pressed hard into it. Could not find any position to be comfortable against that post. That is also the main reason I have always bought 2 door cars. Truck looks good, but I won't be getting one. Post position is a deal breaker.

So they call it the double cab now.

I don't like the way the doors swing out and there is a post going right down the center. I prefer the way the Extended cab doors open all they back to the bed. They have lost a lot of loading room by changing the doors, I think.

I do like the rear step bumper. If it will bolt on to my 09 I would like one.

The dash looks similar to I think it was the F-150 with the four gauges in line like that. I don' t know about that electronic touch screen though. Could be distracting to drivers.

I like the whole 1 piece front bumper. I liked the HD bumpers and am glad they put it on the 1500 now.

The GMC grille is awesome. I like the Led signature lighting.

The bed lighting is great, but I have seen some of you make your own that are great too.

Hopefully the tie down hooks will be better than just the lower ones like my 09.

Mine still isn't paid for and I am not spending another $36,000 on a truck. I will keep mine for a while.

Maybe I will take one for a test drive when they come out just to check them out.

I'm with you on the extended cab doors but I'm sure they went that route to get better/lower noise levels and for crash performance. The 180* opening doors (or whatever it is, I know it isn't quite 180*) are great for loading stuff. And kids too- I don't have any myself but I had a friends kid back there a handful of times before moving and getting the seat installed then him in the seat was easy because of the room. I have to imagine it'd be a lot tougher to do with forward opening doors. Though I suppose if I ever find myself becoming a dad it'd just be a handy excuse to get a crew cab.

I just hate opening the driver door with the extended cab on my current truck. I think I will like the new design better. Also, the noises of the cab flexing in my current truck will be eliminated with the new pillar. the relocation of the weather strip will help a lot with noise I bet.

This was why I had switched from extended cabs to crew cabs. It seemed like all of my extended cab Chev's were extra flexible due to the lack of B pillar. Over bumps, I could always hear the rear latches door latches banging. I love the stiffness of the crew cab.

If GM had of put some thought into the existing extended cab design they could have just made the rear door more of a structured element. Strengthen the actual physical door, reinforce the roof and rocker where the latches hook, and make the upper and lower latches strong enough to lock the rear door in place and make it part of the chassis when closed correctly. This would effectively make the rear door just a very large centre post that can be opened.

I don't know why they had to move the post forward in the first place. The existing 4 door post does not come forward enough to be an issue for me, but the '14 model is far enough forward to sit just ahead of my shoulder. My upper arm ends up right against the post when sitting normally. I know from previous experiences that if your arm or leg is up against an interior part, it will hurt on a long trip. I once was given a loaner Sunfire while my GTP was in for warranty work, and the console had an edge that was against my right leg while driving. After an hour long drive I had a 6 inch long indent in my leg that was tender to the touch when I got out. That dent was there for about an hour after driving for a total of 4 hours that day. Ever since then I always check for parts that may rub against me when shopping for new vehicles.

I have come to like these trucks quite a bit, but the fact that they're going more and more towards a more "civilized" spectrum isn't too my liking. I like them rough and "truck"-like. But I want to test drive one asap, and maybe within a few years I'll even get my hands on one.

And coming from a 2000 Silverado, I just can't come to understand why the front end is soooo big and tall! I for one don't appreciate the decreased visibility and drag penalty. When I drive my dad's '06, the "power done" takes away from being able to see the fender line when squeezing into tight parking spaces, which isn't a problem in mine.

And the excessive chrome on the LTZ's is something that's beyond tacky, this isn't 1955 anymore! And painting them to match the body wouldn't be good because you would still notice the difference in material in places like the edge of the hood.

As for the gimmicky rear bumper step; it wouldn't even be necessary if the trucks weren't so high in the first place. This bumper should be an option or just come standard on 4x4 models. 4x2's shouldn't be as tall, thus top of the bumper is enough for us to get on with ease, just like on my Silverado.

All in all I like both models, but with a few grand I would do miracles with my current truck and would be more than pleased with it for years and years to come.

I'm glad that you brought up this point about the suicide doors because I've had to do the same thing as you many times and it's very helpful. Although on a regular basis it's very annoying because we have to open the front doors to let people into the back, and people usually don't close the door correctly or can't find the handle, etc. So there are both up's and down's with the suicide design, but overalI think that the new doors are simply better in normal use.
