So, what do you think?

OK, i get so tired of the AFM bull 'malarchy' I cannot stand it. Who on this board, that bitch and moan abouat AFM constantantly, have actually had a motor fail on the GMT-900s yet?. My employee has an 09', damn thing has 200k and has tick tick ticked since almost new. You know what, that damn 5.3 is as stong as always and 'over' tows almost daily. Mine personally has no issues either. Ticks just as tad, but runs like a scalded cat with 70k. I've never questioned my drivetrain, and I challenge all those who bullshit on GM's AFM Vortecs to show me something any better

We're not talking about piston slap here (ticking). Read closer...

Buy a quality exhaust and buy a quality Tune, AFM is not an issue

Corsa is top of the line and I still have V4 drone. My opinion is that I shouldn't have to buy a tune so I can have all 8 cylinders firing all the time on a American V-8 pick-up truck that I paid nearly $40,000 for. Case closed.

GM only needs one thing to satisfy potential AFM buyers: an off switch. Mine would be in the "ON" position, but that would settle the issue for folks. The system works exactly the same as a non-AFM motor when AFM is disabled, so it certainly wouldn't hurt. AFM is disabled in gears 1 to 5 on the 6-spds, and 1 to 3 on the 4-spds... why not just have another button on the dash?

That said, it amazes me that folks hate a relatively simple system so badly, but don't question the complications of the the rest of the motor and drive-train.

I had AFM on both 5.3L and 6.0L Silverados and NEVER had an issue. The only time problems popped up was when I was running a really loud exhaust, but I would just drown out the 4 cylinder drone with the stereo. The only reason I went from the 6.0L to the 6.2L was because I wanted the additional HP, TQ and the 6 speed auto.

I didn't know they had AFM on any of they 6.0's... Up till now I thought it was only the 5.3's...

I don't like it at all for in my area because of how it made the truck drive. It was jerky and annoying with exaust, and I don't have a fortune to drop a huge pile of cash on exaust to make it sounds perfect. In my area you would hit a string of hills and the stupid thing would be in and out constantly because guess what it's a heavy truck and its not going to stay in AFM mode on that type of terrain. It doesn't matter how they tweak it, unless you live in the flat lands its going to be crap.

As far as using oil goes my 09 never used a drop of oil, but I also had mine turned off somewhere around the 15,000 mile mark so that could have influenced it not using any oil. My truck was also the 4spd which Im sure didn't help things either. Ive driven a 6spd Avalanche, and it wasn't much better IMO as far as it being a slouch in the hilly areas trying to make up its mind on which mode to be in.

I think its a neat system, but my opinion is that it doesn't belong in a truck. Some people have it and it doesn't bother them, and some people like me hate it. Im sure the way I drive causes me to hate it. I think if I lived out west in the flat lands Id be ok with it more than I am now.

I've had two 6.0 VMax trucks with AFM. I drove one to around 45k miles, and the other to almost 60k miles. Never had a problem, and never burned any oil. The only complaint I had was the sound in V4 mode after my straight pipe dual exhaust, but the ole M5 trick in town fixed that. I'm at about 5k miles on my new one, and it's been smooth as butter so far. Although I don't think AFM really helps these trucks, it's not really as bad as everyone thinks. For me, it's been seamless on the last 4 trucks I've owned...until I changed the exhaust. That being said, I'd still like an 'off' switch, just because it doesn't help much at all....and so I could have more options for aftermarket exhaust...without wanting to get it turned off with a tune.

My dad has an 07 with 240k, boss 07 yukon has 200k and they both run as good as the day they rolled off the lot. Im sure the second gen afm will be another leap forward in the right direction. If you plan on putting on an aftermarket exhaust plan on a tune, if you dont want the drone. Pretty simple if you ask me.

I found that the Corsa Touring catback did the trick, especially when combined with long tube headers. The truck ends up quieter than stock when cruising around. The addition of a cutout helps wake it up when you want to flip it back into loud mode.

Ugliest interior of any truck on the road, IMO. Barf!

Ditto...

I realize I am probably NOT the target demographic.... but.... that interior.....OMG... Not for me... (0 on a 1-10 scale).

Did they hire the tonka truck designer from F*rd???? or the FJ Cruiser interior decorator? :freak:

Hate it.... Maybe my mind would change if I saw it in person. Don't want to feel I am driving a video game.

Now, the EXTERIOR... I do like it. (10 on a 1-10 scale)

On a different note, any one else not crazy about the them getting rid of the suicide doors on the extended cab? I really like them on my 09, makes it really easy to get big items in the back cab.

During Hurricane Sandy, I was lucky enough to be at a home depot that just happened to get a pallet of 6K Watt generators when I was there (they were gone in like 15 mins). I was able to shoehorn the box into the back cab trough the passenger side by moving the seat up and opening both doors so I didnt have to worry about it growing legs when in the parking lot of other stores. It wouldnt have been possible with a pillar in the way.

I think I would really like the chevy with a painted front end.

I like the Chevy and the GMC. Something that I usually do not do. The GMC trucks have always looked almost like a generic Chevy until now. I really hope that they have an option on the Chevys for painted front end and door handles and molding. The chrome handles look like complete plastic garbage. As if they were even billet, they still would look better painted to match. I am undecided on which I like best, but as of now I am leaning towards the All Terrain GMC. Are any of the photos of the crew cabs the one with the longer bed?

I am with you on that one, I love just opening the back door and setting down my gym bag, shopping bags, or whatever
