I am looking to upgrade my brakes. I am wondering if cross drilled/slotted rotors and ceramic pads are the correct solution. I have never liked the way my truck responds while braking. Most of my driving is city. I tow a small 2000lb boat during the Summer. Any ideas?

To truly get better branking you should try better pads first, but then after that you really have to look at bigger brake systems. The slotted/ drilled do have some effects, but from what I understand they only help to off-gas which occur under some extreme braking situations, and do not reduce braking distances. On my Camaro I used performance friction carbon metalics and they worked great. hope this helps.

I had the same problem with my '05 Suburban. I installed Brembo rotors, which helped. The benefit was especially noticeable when the rotors got warmed up and I had to stop more quickly. Then I installed EBC yellow pads and the mprovement was immediately noticeable. I'm pretty satisfied now. The only problem with the yellow pads is the brake dust, but I can live with that.

I used to have a '01 Firebird & there was a guy who did auto cross on a forum. He also sold parts, knew his stuff forwards & backwards since he was racing what he was selling. His recommendations were for Brembo blank rotors & Hawk pads for general street stuff. Said there were too many generic slotted/drilled rotors cracking/warping on the market & provided zero gain.

Brakes were much better after installing those & the car only had 40,000 miles on it at the time. The rotors that came off were warped from some idiot(previous owner/shop) over torquing the lug nuts. Had to use a 4' breaker bar to get them loose. :nonod:
