Prices climb because our dollar is getting more and more worthless by the day.

I second this too. Bought any food lately??

LOL not sure if that is the problem either considering even when our dollar up here is worth more than your's we are still getting screwed and paying 30% more on everything. It is cheaper for me to drive across the border and buy a year old truck and bring it back. The flimbsy fiberglass "skid plate" on my '12 gas tank was listed at $150 in the US and $287 here in Canada. And if i recall correctly our dollars are almost the same. Just be happy ur prices are still lower than ours.

You pay more for stuff but you get to live in igloos and eat poutines, right?

Kidding. I go into Canada a few times a year for work and it is shocking how much more you guys pay for everything, nevermind how much bigger a bite the govt takes out. I'm not sure what was worse in the eastern provinces- when I'd get a pre-HST hotel receipt with every tax itemized or now when it's just one giant tax.

and have penguins for pets  sorry

My car almost stickered for as much as my truck. Crazy

My 04 cobra is worth almost as much as my 2012 SS/RS camaro was for trade in! Ridiculous! But that's just how things go I suppose? My 04 "could" sell for 29k and trade in on our camaro was 29,500.

Cobra only has 15k and 1 of 316 Oxford white. Figured I would add that before getting bashed. Haha

I'm a John Deere garden tractor addict, and a growing trend is to find a 80's or 90's tractor and do a complete restoration. What you end up with is a tractor that is tank-like for a third of the price of a new one. New ones can't even compare to the quality of the old one. Anyway, it isn't just trucks, NOTHING is as well built as past versions.

It's the joy of being Canadian. I seems to be our pedigree to accept that we'll get screwed over, and continuously pay through the nose for stuff since "it's what it costs". Only thing cheap in Canada is our gov't issued Vaseline. LOL!

I did that with an early 80's Case/Ingersoll garden tractor. Nothing new compares. I did it partly for fun, and partly for the utility. Got it with a bush-hog, tiller, and grader attachment, and later found a chipper for it (hydraulic pto). Rebuilt the whole thing, but not "restored". It's for work. The only "new" garden tractors that I'd "trade up" for would be a new Kubota diesel or similarly built small/mid-size. None of the small garden tractors you find at big-box stores compare to what I have.

Although I agree on the parts I don't see that much difference in vehicle pricing anymore. In fact with used stuff, like the trucks in my signature..... they are cheaper here in Alberta than they are across the border, period. I was looking for used 09+ Cadillac CTS V's for a while and they are no screaming deal stateside...... the used ones here were the same coin or less and then you have no border import BS to deal with. The only advantage was selection as there are simply more of them for sale. And I was searching Canada wide.

GM up here is a rip for new parts so I order stuff state side if I have too but that's about it anymore. And then the whole taxes thing..... well I live in the lowest taxed province in Canada and run a business..... my taxes are pretty cheap.

I do restoration on JDs also. Older models are built rock solid. Strong axles and frames. The JD stuff sold through the box stores is crap

I wouldn't spend $50,000 on a half ton, maybe a duramax. I also believe these trucks are worth every penny, especially if you buy right. I bought my first new truck several years ago(2005 Chevrolet Z71 ECSB), that was a good lesson for me. Only used low mile vehicles will be in my garage from now on, got my current truck for less than 20k.

Never, I mean never pay sticker..... That said check with Costco to see if the new trucks are in their auto program. That's what I did on my current truck, I got $2k off plus incentives. My truck stickered for a rediculous $39k, I paid $29K. But I worked them, went to all my local stealerships. But not, the 1500 is not work $50k. Not by a long shot. Good luck, take your time and wait for the deal you want.

11K for your current truck sounds about right.

Yeah trucks today are expensive, I got lucky on my two. Om my 2011 (see sig) stickered for $21,500 I paid $17,800 T.T.L total price out the door, I paid cash for it. I was shock how cheap i got this truck for and it been a good truck. 58,400 miles and just a couple very minor easy fix myself items and had the TPS replaced a few thousand ago at a Chevy Dealer.

My 2006 2500HD with the Duramax crew cab short bed 4x4 stickered for nearly 45,000 i got that for $36,700 TTL out the door. Bought it brand new, I was surprised they came down on the price since Duramax's were selling well in 2006. I got it cheap cause its the 310 HP version and everyone wanted the 360hp truck. I could care less on horsepower. 310hp 605 ft-lbs is plunty. 122,000 miles on her and just a recall to reprogram the glowplug controller when it had 1000 miles on it otherwize, Fluids, filters, tires, shocks and I put Glow plugs in as a precaution.(I don't like leaving plugs in aluminum heads for too long.)I never had a single issue with this truck been fantastic. I love it. Hell I had a business owner offer me $30,000 for it when I had 97,000 miles on it cause he wanted a Newer diesel truck to replace his problematic Ford.

Yeah the sheet metal might be thinner these days but tell me any truck built back in the 50's to the 70's/80's go the miles my trucks have without no issues. Heck those trucks back then would be half rebuilt by now. My 7,400lbs Duramax averages 19 mpg(unloaded) and my 2011 V6 averages 20 mpg(21-22 mpg on my extended hi-way runs) There's a trade off I guess. I do agree trucks sticker prices are crazy but that's where they make profit from, trucks and SUV's.

But y'all boys up in Canada have gubmint health care, right? Heheheheee, we do too! I also buy used trucks. Try to get one with less than 50,000 miles.
