So I just bought my 2018 Sierra 1500 without the led upgrade. I’d rather just do a morimoto bulb switch but I haven’t heard nearly any talk about the 45watt D5s bulb that morimoto has. Are there compatibility issues or are they just new. They are only $20 more than the 35 watt bulbs.

Has anyone run these yet??

Havent heard of any issues but 45 watt will wear the bulbs out faster (20% faster). If you want you can use gmforum_10% and get 10% off at fastheadlights.com on the 35 watt setup.

Honestly the wear wouldn’t bother me all that much. I kinda feel like if I’m gunna do it I want to put the brightest thing I can in. When they go out I’ll replace it. Will y’all not be carrying the 45watt for a specific reason?

The amp plugs on the d2h will plug directly into your ballast just like the HIDs you had before. Since your lights come on when you manually power them on it doesnt sound like a connection issue. If they inconsistently came on then perhaps an issue with the connections. Being that it isn't working in DRL mode it really points at that capacitor link being suspect. Check the ground connection on the capacitor and check the polarity. Red to red and black to black. Many times guys will reverse the polarity and it will cause the capacitor to not work.

I checked the capacitor and it looks correct. Is it possible the capacitor went bad the same moment I swapped the bulbs? I will swap it this weekend and see if that makes a difference. I just don’t understand why it would stop working. You are right everything works fine except for the DRL/running lights

I just purchased the morimoto d2s kit from fastheadlights for a 2015 GMC Sierra HD. Quick question, how do you adjust the projectors? I’m concerned about whether they will be too low or high.

And for anyone considering upgrading their HIDS (with or with a new projector) I strongly recommend the Hylux ballast. I have been selling Morimoto products for over 10 years now. Good product but the failure rate is much higher than Hylux in my experience.
Not to mention that if you have an issue with a Hylux ballast it is simple to diagnose. Swap one side with the other and if it resolves the issue then warranty replace the ballast. Frickin Morimoto having separate ignitor, ballast and anti flicker links makes it a bitch to diagnose. Especially if you aren't familiar with HID systems.

gmforum_10% on fastheadlights.com saves members on here on retrofit kits and HID kits.

Fast,

I am considering a plugandplay HID kit for my 14 Sierra SLT.  I have purchased the Morimoto kits with relay harness in the past and have had good luck but after reading your and other's comments I am wondering about your morimoto/hylux option.  I have never heard of the Hylux kit before reading about it here. So if I understand your website correctly, there is no need for a separate relay harness, igniter, capacitor, etc?  Can the OEM headlight harness handle running all current through it alone?  Any warranty on your kits? Sorry for multiple questions but this kit is new to me.

Thanks.

All you do is use the adjuster screw on the top of the headlight. No different than adjusting the factory setup. :)

Hey no worries on questions. Happy to answer them. The Hylux ballast essentially has all the components the Morimoto system has all built into one unit. Makes installation much easier. When you buy a kit on our site you get everything needed to do the install: )

Any warranty on your kits?

There is a 3 year warranty on the Hylux ballasts. It’s an easy process to make a claim. Send Phil (Fast) an email letting him know there’s a problem. He’ll ask you to follow a couple steps to confirm the issue is in fact the ballast. If it is, you prepay a reduced price for the replacement ballast which will arrive in 2 days. When it arrives, remove the failed ballast, destroy it (cut the wires) and send him a pic of the destroyed ballast. He refunds your money less the shipping of the replacement ballast. I received the new ballast two days after I made my payment. I received a refund before the new one arrived since I destroyed my failed ballast and sent him a pic while the new one was shipping. In the end, I paid $8 (shipping) for what would have cost me $58 to replace and had it fixed two days after I made a claim. Simple.

It took me more time to write this description than it did to actually make the warranty claim.

    • What meaningful corrections were done to fix the "machining errors?"   I bet nothing, because the 6.2 is soon to be obsolete. Why would GM implement any fix let alone an "expensive one?"   Until someone can provide any convincing information that GM did ANYTHING to correct the engines - the 6.2 is no for me.    Which means keeping the 2016 Denali longer until the next generation (6.6?) proves itself.
    • If my father took a Sunday off. We did the Sunday drive. Usually stopping at a Geno’s for dinner that we eat in the car. Six of us with my little sister up front. It was always a Buick growing up. In New Jersey you couldn’t get lost. Not like Texas.

    • I suppose I am Atlas. It can always be worse, eh?   I had a friend once that rolled one payment into another until he was paying the price of Benz for a 10 year old back marker. Wouldn't be often you start a new payment the month following your old one.
    • I still enjoy the drive   Some people fish when they retire; some golf. I drive. We've lived in the same general area now for twenty eight years and I'm still finding at least monthly some sweet quite little road to explore. When I tell the Mrs. I'm heading out for coffee she knows that could be a five hour event. Often she even goes along.    I like finding new rural routes used mainly by the locals that start nowhere in particular and end the same way. Many in the area of that type are narrow paved and twisty, hilly and run through field and timber. Often along creeks or wetlands. Unfarmable areas of great natural beauty.    After years of this type of exploration they start to fit together. One ending a mile or so from another and you start threading together a new path from a unfamiliar place to a new adventure. Sometimes to a little town of under five hundred that used to be something before the Interstate or some railroad or US highway bled the life out of it that has a small dinner with the greatest slice of pie you've eaten since grandma made her last. A little village museum or library or even a town square park with grand old oak, walnut and Osage orange trees to sit under while you sip you gas station coffee and chat up some locals.    Often they are full of stories about the main streets more interesting buildings and the who's who of the area. Sometimes some hidden attraction or unseen history. Our area is full of old coal mines.     A younger self used to do this going cross country by motorcycle. Only a general area as a destination with no time to get there and no time to be back. Sitting at days end in a 10 unit off the main highway motel under a Sycamore tree yacking with the owner or his one semipermanent guest while I adjusted valves or the chain. Always a wave and a shout "Hey there stranger"!  It's how I came by my love of old Brit iron. There is no such things as a ten minute gas stop when your on a Enfield or a vintage Triumph. Same being true of old cars.    If you take the time to really look I've found everywhere is someplace interesting. Illinois or West Virginia. Different and yet the same.    People are in a more relaxed mood and will talk about anything and everything and if they like you there may be a cupp'a or a lemonade and a sandwich in it. 😉
