Just did a short 220 mile round trip up to OKC on Saturday (GO THUNDER!!), Left on 1/2 tank and did not reset the DIC. I Completed the trip averaging 18.8 MPG best 50 mile MPG was 23.7, I was running 80 MPH. My truck is tuned and AFM is turned off. I'm pleased!

I just did 230 miles this weekend from Norman to Keystone lake. Did 5 over the speed limit other than on the turnpike I did the posted 75. Got home and filled up (half a tank) and did the average and got 19.9mpg for the trip.

 

Not bad for a 6.2l truck in my mind.

Those are great numbers for teh 6.2L. Though around town is where I bet the larger engine takes a MPG hit. I can average 18 with my standard 50/50 mixed driving if I take it easy, but my lifetime average is 17. I'm happy.

I am still averaging 17.5-18 in the city with my mixed driving.

My friend bought a 13 Ram 5.7 auto 4x4 and gets a constant 13~13.5, I feel really good about the GMC.

I've been running 89 octane shell with an ocassional 93 half tank. On a full tank of 89 my mileage was 15.8 on 3/4 of the tank...

 

Monitoring with tq pro, KR was consistently 2-3* across the board and max at around 4*. So I reset it this morning for 18.8 miles and got 18.5MPG's.

 

---Filled back up at 1/4 of tank with 93 V-power....Reset trip B and ran 18.6 miles back. 21.7MPG's and -1 to 2* KR across the board and still maxed at 4*.

 

The truck just holds the gear better with 93 octane, and the knock sensors like the 93 octane. Passed one car and it just feels so much smoother.

 

---Disclaimer--- No it's not scientific....and some misc info. The 18.5mpg was at 38lbs in the tires and the return trip showed 39-40lbs (tires being warmed up from the trip). Typically 1lb of air in all 4 tires is worth .1-.3 mpg's. Also my understanding and expeirience has been that 1* of timing on a "higher" compression engine is worth around 3-8hp. so theoretically the truck pulling around 2* less of timing throughout most of the trip would mean that 93 helps it gain ~10hp across the board...not enough to quantify but if across most of the map it would reason that this might be just enough to keep it in v4 longer.

Just ran to the lake and back for work yesterday. Filled up right before starting and filled when I returned. A little over 200 miles traveled with 95% cruising at 72 MPH. Hand calculated I got 20.02 MPG and I could not be happier. If a guy could slow down to say 65 or so I don't see any reason it couldn't get 22 MPG on the highway. Absolutely love this truck!!!!

Just ran to the lake and back for work yesterday. Filled up right before starting and filled when I returned. A little over 200 miles traveled with 95% cruising at 72 MPH. Hand calculated I got 20.02 MPG and I could not be happier. If a guy could slow down to say 65 or so I don't see any reason it couldn't get 22 MPG on the highway. Absolutely love this truck!!!!

While traveling at about 60-65 mph I usually average around 24-27 MPG! That's with CCSB 5.3L with 3.42 gears on my sierra. It is also leveled with magnaflow and AFE power with K&N air intake. At 70 I get around 22, and then when I start tailgating 18 wheelers in the next lane (that way I don't get any rocks thrown at me) then I shoot up to around 24MPG and 70 mph. Still really impressed and very happy with the mileage these trucks get

Just filled up. 20.1 mpg. That's a mixed bag of driving. Highway, city, mountains, rural and fields. I have a double cab v6 4x4. This tank also had a couple 60 ft burn outs. Can't complain at all!

Yea if you can find a trucker to draft, these things will get 22+ all day long!

He has tuned his truck, tuner turned the AFM off thru the tune.

You running the 63 series K&N? I had one on my 07 1500 and it was great. Thinking about getting one for this one since AFE has no desire to make a MIT for the 2014 right now.

    • But Grumpy I did show several subdivisions that had homes starting in the 170K range. If you bought a Townhouse or Condo you could go cheaper. Same with a car 3000 dollars in the 70s translates to around 20K today. There are several models at that price. You actually get more for the money. In the 70s I drove a 3000$ car bought a 28K home and made 4.50 per hour. Thank goodness for overtime. Today I could buy a 170K house drive a 20K car and make 25 dollars an hour operating the same machine today. The difference the house, car, machine would be better and have AC. And I wouldn’t be taxed on overtime. And statistically your wife works too. Easing the burden. I thought we agreed to disagree. I brought receipts earlier, showing examples. I think you’re more stubborn than me. I was done with this debate. 
    • I’m definitely interested to hear the end result here. 
    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken. 
    • Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Years later, your thread is still helping Silverado owners.   I bought my 2025 Silverado 1500 in January 2025, and I've had what feels like the exact same rattle since day one. After reading your findings, I believe my truck has the same issue with the cable carrier contacting the rear sliding window. To be honest, I had pretty much given up on pursuing the issue. It wasn't until I recently drove another brand's pickup that I realized just how quiet their cabin was—and how noisy mine has been all along. On my truck, the rattle happens on almost any paved road, gets even worse on rougher pavement, and I can even hear it during braking and acceleration.   I actually referenced your thread when submitting my case to GM, hoping they'll recognize this as a recurring issue instead of treating it as an isolated incident. The reason I reached out to GM first is because my dealership told me they would need to keep the truck for at least two days just to diagnose the problem. I was concerned that even after two days, they still might not be able to identify the source of the rattle before giving the truck back to me. I had also asked a few dealerships about this issue during previous service visits, but none of them seemed to know what was causing it or had a solution. That's why I decided to contact GM directly first, hoping they might already have an official repair procedure or guidance for this issue.   I also hope GM eventually comes up with an official fix for this problem. I have a feeling there are many Silverado owners experiencing the same rattle, but most either choose to live with it or simply don't know what the cause is.   Really appreciate you taking the time to document your diagnosis. Your post is still making a difference years later.
