i had mine done at capital gmc in edmonton did the 4in lift lift costed $ 1097 plus 720 labor and 180 new wheel alignment

 

Woh, that is where I bought my truck from yo! And $875 is quoted from them too!

There's a short list of things that are downsides.

  • Lower fuel economy at high speeds (low speeds shouldn't be affected much)
  • some have reported harsher ride (due to the steeper angle of the A-arms)
  • There were many reports of upper ball joint premature wear-outs with this same suspension in the GMT900 when 2.5" levels were installed (over limiting the ball joint angle) I'm sure we'll hear more of this on this model
  • The roll center is lifted and therefore body roll is increased in cornering/evasive maneuvering
  • lower checking account balance due to need for new tires, wheels, upper control arms, bull bars, etc., which all work to lower fuel economy more and lower your checking balance even further

As you know I plan on lifting with the Bilstein 5100 series adjustables or their new coilovers when they release. I will eventually as you did pick up a new pair of upper control arms to accommodate the lifted front end so I can extend life of the ball joints or at least I think it would help.

 

I'm still a little baffled by AZ's mpg on that trip.

^^^^Once you lift a truck and put bigger tires on you can't rely on the instant MPG gauge in your trucks DIC. It's tuned to factory equipment, and not that accurate in the first place. If AZ were to get a tune and correct the tire size, his instant MPG would improve but still not be completely accurate. Best bet is to hand calculate the MPG over a few tanks and find out what your actual MPG is. Winter blend gas is also to blame here, there are additive put in it to stop it from gelling in the cold…

 

My truck has 275/70/18's with a 2" level, it get's driven in the city a lot lately and says it's getting about 10MPG, but after hand calculating it, I'm actually getting 13-14MPG, which isn't bad for the amount of city driving I'm doing, with the Christmas holiday traffic, and with the winter blend gas that's in the tank… I can't wait to go on vacation in the new year and stretch the trucks legs, even with the winter blend I think it should get close to 20-22MPG… Before, when the truck was stock, on long trips with premium summer grade gas, I was getting 28+mpg on long trips. I knew the bigger tires were going to take a hit out of the fuel mileage, but the stock tires and clearance weren't going to get me to my fishing camp…

Guys, Hello, I am new here. I have read a lot of the posts regarding the RC 2" leveling kits.

I have '14 Denali 1500 without any suspension mods yet.

I really like the truck but I am not thrilled with the ride on my rough streets. Definitely due to the 20" rims.

Would love to put more rubber between the wheel and the road.

Don't really want to add a lift since I am short and I do use the bed of my truck.

Was thinking of adding the RC 2" leveling kit.

Not sure what that will allow me to get as far a tires.

Really like the Michelin LTX/MS2 tires. Had them on my last truck and they performed nicely.

However, they don't offer a 275/65/20. And I am not sure a 275/60/20 will give me what I am looking for.

Also, not sure the 2" leveling kit will allow me to get those tires anyway.

If I added the RC 2.5" with the lift, that should allow me to go to bigger tires. But that I think will put me too high.

If I did the 2.5" with the lift, I would love to go to a 280/65/20, do they even make that size?

So my question is this, can I get the 275/65/20 to fit if I do the RC 2" level kit?

If not, what do you suggest?

That's a 34" tire. Some guys have gotten them to fit with a 275 width. It's all about wheel offset. You should check your clearances with the tires you have and calculate how much the new tire size will reduce those clearances. Have a friend turn the wheels to the stop and hold them there (engine running) while you measure or use the seatbelt to hold the steering wheel at the stops. Measure the clearances around the plastic well liner, the sway bar and whatever else is close. If a person is holding the steering wheel, be sure to tell them you'll be in the wheel well and your safety depends on them not moving the wheel. I used a seat belt.

 

You definitely can go up to a 285 width or even 295 if you go to a 33" diameter tire.

I agree with you all too. I get better mpg around town. My last fill up from a week around the city was 15/16 ish. We lift em and loose some mpg, but we get more looks and I am always bull shitting with people at the gas station about my truck. I think of I stayed around 70 mph I would of gotten better mpg. I also believe in premium fuel. I have been running it my truck since last week and it has increased my fuel economy by alot.

Thanks Spurshot. I think I recall reading that you did the 2" level kit and added the Michelins. If I am correct, do you really think that improved the ride that much? As I stated, I am not really looking to make the truck taller, I just want more rubber between the rim and road. I want that for two reasons, first and foremost, the ride, I want a softer ride. I feel too much road. Second is curbs, want to get the rims away from curbs. But again the ride is my biggest concern.

 

Thanks and I like your dog. I am planning on selling my tonneau and putting on a cap. I want to get a lab and this truck is just too nice to put the dog in so I want a cap for it. Thinking of getting a LEER xq.

I have a question for the people on here who installed their lift kit themselves...if you install a kit yourself on a new truck will it affect your new vehicle warranty in any way?

If you have suspension, brake or tire problems, you betcha. GM has enough problems paying for legit warranty work.

i like the 4in lift but stock rims will not fit. factory offset is wrong rubs on the control arm . not sure with a 2in lift since i dont think they change the control arms?

I havent got it done yet. Many people did not specify if they had to change anything with 2.5 pad. The GM rep said with $875, no warranty voided BECAUSE no parts are taken out. I am guessing not touching the control arm.

i have full warranty since they did it at the dealership with the 4 in if your around edm i can show u the lift and how it rides

Putting on the rough country 2.5 and 285/60/20 duratracs. Whats everyone doing about the speedometer calibration. Talked to my dealer today and they said when they lift, or level trucks they don't recalibrate the speedo, but I call B.S. He also said if you calibrate it yourself with a programmer, it could void warranty because they don't know what was programmed, just know it was programmed. Anyone have any experience with this, thanks.

Based on the 2000 samples in the SPEEDiagnostix database, increasing the oil viscosity in these engines, even those run on the track, showed no significant difference in results.   The smoking gun was in the oil chemistry. That is where the data shows higher instances of more wear. Molybdenum was the key; the higher the amount, the less the wear. Speed postulates that higher viscosity oils have more thickeners to artificially inflate their viscosity numbers. These thickeners lose viscosity under shear, and the result is that not all oils of the same viscosity have the same shear stability.   Having enough viscosity is the most important characteristic, but according to Speed, once that required viscosity level is reached, additive chemistry matters more than additional viscosity. Speed also states, oil pressure problems on the racetrack aren’t a viscosity problem; it’s an oiling system problem. Running a thicker oil is just a band-aid for an underlying oiling system problem.
    • Can it still be Assembled II?   Viscosity on the decline by various means. Heat on the rise making that worse. Engine RPM in the tank. Smaller motors with more boost trying to emulate an electric motor. Full torque, zero rpm. Then we will triple the OCI. Argh.    But wait....there is more. LSPI has pushed a shift from Ca to Mg and as that cost more PLUS the run to lower sulfur compounds the TBN is moving in the wrong direction for the increased OCI's demanded.    That not being enough to placate a demand for a parameter they can't measure the other sulfur bearing compounds are also under attack. That would be zinc and phosphorus sulfonate compounds. To some degree those are being replaced with boron esters and others, i.e. titanium ect. All of which have shorter service lives. And there there is the "Secrete Sauce" marketing for AW adds that 'Can't be detected by UOA's" but trust me because I (the blenders) never ever lie.    Spoiler alert; ALL additives are sacrificial! Smaller amounts of the old blended with less robust versions of the new do not equal longer service lives. So what are the blenders recommending? Wait for it.......   MOVING THE GOAL POSTS! OMG      Let's declare the long standing TAN/TBN crossover irrelevant and tell people that soot is a great 'graphite' based lubricant which can aid tribo films. Wait, what? Let's declare that the standards used for oxidation and nitration were to conservative and can be expanded. Let's tell them that because GDI fuel dilution, although being a VISCOSITY KILLER and an acid generator is actually okay because we have better base oils that limit viscosity failure limits. (Said knowing this is measured in fractions of a centipoise and in bases not commonly used in shelf oils)   Lying from the heart is not just the new normal but we have a public, a very young public, that is so ignorant of the facts and so sure of their "RESEARCH" into AI driven models base in regurgitated  instead of scientific research based unvarnished, peer reviewed FACTS that the incoming guard is loosing their grip on reality and the OEM's are tickled pink while the blends bend the knee.    You have an ever limited set of tools to work with. And sooner or later those will be taken from you as the API and the EPA strangle the last remaining fluids from the system. What you have left is your wits. If you care to use them.    At some point in the very near future it will not longer be possible to do "What is best for the machine", and be replaced with "The best you have access too". You WILL be rewarded with half the life and twice the cost. That isn't that hard to predict.         
    • I trust you saw the other comment where he knew what he was talking about !. Yes, these darned newer vehicles with all their so smart they are stupid technology, goes and drains the battery down. As you might see my other comment, I installed a Noco 5 battery tender under the hood and at this point still have the cord routed so I have to lift the hood and then plug it in but am typically parked in a garage or a shed so its not risking the engine hood in the wind. That way I am assured or hopefully so of not finding I have a battery drawn down and can't even start the truck and that also damages the battery to draw it down too far. 
    • I guess no surprise my guesses were wrong !, at least now I know if I ever happen to see it grayed out in my own truck as to what is going on.    I never happened to catch my truck with it grayed out, it seemed every time I would test to see if there was an update it never found anything and yet more than once I would check to see if there was an update and there was nothing, then a day later or even that same morning I would drive to town and after more than one engine shut down in town as I did my errands it would pop up that there is an update now ready to install and the only place I have a connection to the internet is at home by wifi so its not as if it grabbed the download while driving. I don't trust these new vehicles due to all the crap they can decide to do while sitting for some days not running and run the battery down so most of the time if I know the truck will sit for a few days I plug in the battery tender I have mounted under the hood and so the only time the truck must have downloaded software was when it was sitting in the garage where the signal is awful but I have that tender plugged in and somehow it managed to download it. I honestly detest all this crap, way to easy to leave a person stranded.    Since I don't trust any of it I don't do the install of the already downloaded software until I get home and sometimes have even sat in the truck to watch what its doing as its going through the process to its conclusion as its not like it is set up that it will tell you the next time you fire up the engine that the update that was initialed actually installed or installed properly. Yes I can go into the updates and see the list. After I go through the install where I feel its safe to do so in case it breaks down as a result, I will plug in the battery tender after the fact to recharge as I don't know how much power its taking just to do the install and that can take a while for it to install. 
    • Thanks for the reply. All settings were correct and the engine was off, as it was supposed to be. It turned out to be something simple. I took a drive for about an hour. I must have had a low battery without knowing it. The voltage gauge on the display looked ok. At the end of my drive, I shut off the engine and the update prompt came up and it updated normally. It’s ironic because one of the features of the update is a reduction of battery drain.
