I'm about to purchase a Top Gun Customz 2.5" leveling kit and 1.5" add a leaf for my '15 Silverado. Saw it on Magstar's truck that came out perfect so the heights aren't the issue. What I'm trying to determine is if it's worth paying someone else to do the labor--$300 for the leveling kit and another $150 for the add a leaf, both matching quotes from nearby 4x4 shops. The $300 does include an alignment, btw.

 

I'm reasonably mechanically inclined and for half that can buy a jack, stands and wrenches to do the job. Plus I have a torque wrench and sometimes doubt that shops pay attention to torque settings for such work. YouTube is loaded with videos on how to do it all.

 

Anyone have helpful words to offer on this...I'd appreciate it.

If you are mechanically inclined, I would say go for it. It is not all that difficult to pull the front end apart with it sitting on a jack stand. I personally have the TG kit you mentioned and threw it on without any trouble. Only needed a second set of hands at one point to put it all back together. Save yourself hundreds in shop labor. You will know it was done right and how to work on it later if needed.

Ok Guys I have a question I just put my new wheels on for the summer & I'm rubbing alot more than I thought.... anyways I started doing some trimming on the inner Cab I cut about 2 inch off the inside plastic cab corner end cap thing... and made a cut in my carpeted wheel well liner, got it out of the way then bent / hammered the sheet metal back on the corner... I did this to both side but for some reason the passenger side still is hitting it's like that wheel well is smaller then the drivers side.?

 

My question is; I only have a 2 inch RC spacer in the front if I add the thin plate on top of the front coil overs would I need to get another aliment it would be another .5 of lift & how much do you think it will help my rubbing situation?

Yes you would need to get the front end aligned because you will be changing the geometry by adding the spacer. I thought the thin shim wouldn't do much on top of the coil but it does. Probably would help your rubbing by giving you a little more clearance.

is this really the angle of just a 2.5" kit? that looks awful..

Have you taken your truck in for an alignment? I'm not completely sure, but it looks like your camber may be off. I think If the camber was adjusted to correct specifications, that may resolve the issue. When I installed my 2" leveling kit and went in for an alignment, my camber was a couple degrees off. But again, I'm not an expert so don't quote me exactly haha

So after installing a 2" rough country leveling kit, has anyone else had issues with their headlights being at a higher angle and blinding other drivers? haha I'm always having people flashing their high beams at me because my headlights are too bright.

Adjust your lights down 2-3 turns on the adjusters and the other drivers will stop flashing you.

Great, thanks for the encouragement. Did you put both bottom brackets under each shock for the full 2.5"? I was surprised to find out the kit comes with 4. Looks like a bit of a stretch in the TG product pics and stacking two doesn't look as solid. Especially when the ReadyLift gives you 2.25" with only one under each shock (but probably more $$). I think that most just want the height and don't care.

I turned mine down 1 full turn after doing a 2" level. I think it's okay but I may go down a bit more. It hasn't bothered anybody as far as I can tell. Yet.

Yes, everybody has that issue. Fix it before you blind someone and cause them to run off the road. It's easy...if it takes you more than 2 minutes, you had trouble finding the hood latch.

I installed the Motofab kit last night and the bolts that came with the kit were too short the threads didn't even go into the nylon portion of the lock nut. I got some longer bolts today I'll swap out the shorties. What is everybody doing with the 1/2 shafts to get the bolts in from the top or are people just putting the bolt in the from the bottom and putting the nut on top?

That's weird your kits bolts are to short...

 

They need to go from top down or you won't have the clearance on the cv axles. You have to drop the ball joint in order to install them properly.

You should only receive 2 u shaped blocks (good for 2") for the lower control arm and a small flat ring (.5") to place on top of the strut. There is nothing to stack.

    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions? 
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!  
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?. 
    • He is not saying that an SAE *W20 will have more viscosity than a *W40 due to MORE VII polymers. He is saying that although multiple *W40 may post in the PDS the same or similar 100 C and 150 C viscosities that the blenders choice of modifier TYPE and AMOUNT to get his chosen base to grade will not give identical real world viscosities in shear and at temperature. All will pass the SII test but not all will pass the 100 C HTHS (unpublished value) testing the blender does and relies on to get the required by law "percentage improvement' referenced to his last great work.    Tis the problem with the lie. Once told others are required to support it. 
    • I have a `25, 1500 that auto sets on incline. Never knew that at first. I have the electronic shifter. Just think if it didn`t do that? Unlike a mechanical shift that you can muscle out of park, how would you get this thing out? That would be a problem.   What I found out later is, I don`t have to push the button to release. Just put it in gear.   Setting parameters? Don`t know if it`s possible.
