King coilover replacements with deaver rear mini pack and removal of the 1” block running 285/70/17 Falkens

Second picture is with 315/70/17 BFG’s same lift, with trimming. It rubs, but I have a Baja kits upper and lower kit coming next week to solve that problem.

2015 GMC Sierra 2" Rough Country Leveling kit with 20x10 Wheels and 32x11 Toyo Open Country A/T.
 


What's the metric size on the tires? Toyo doesn't make a 32x11 to my knowledge. Are they 275/60?

When I bought them from custom offsets it was technically 31.9x10.8, I don’t know the metric size off of the top of my head.

Hey guys,

Just picked up a 2018 1500, and looking to level the front a bit, like 1.5" to 2" tops

From what I've read so far, it sounds like with the newer models, you should be replacing the uca, regardless of what leveling kit you go with. 

This true even with a slight level like a 1.5"?

I'm keeping the stock 20" wheels and tires - at least for now lol -

When I bought them from custom offsets it was technically 31.9x10.8, I don’t know the metric size off of the top of my head. 


Just look at the side of the tire. It has the size on there

31.9x10.8" tire on a 20" wheel is a stock 275/55r20.

You'd want to check with the manufacturer of the UCA kit... Most I have looked at require a wheel with more offset, or spacers.

 

I have stamped steel control arms, and I ended up pulling my 2" MotoFab kit because I got wheel rub on the UCA at lock, and unfortunately there are situations in my daily driving life where I end up hitting wheel lock, I didn't want to destroy the back of my wheels or front edge of my UCA.

 

I ended up trading in my original 2017 Sierra Elevation for a 17 Sierra SLE Z71, still had stamped control arms. I plan on waiting to do any lifting at all until I acquire a UCA kit and new wheels. YMMV of course, but I don't know if you'll get what you want without a new wheel kit if you go with an aftermarket UCA kit.

If you are certain you only want 1.5 to 2 inches of lift, then you could go with the Bilstein 5100 struts which do not require any UCA change and actually work within the existing front suspension geometry better than any other solution I know of for staying as close to "stock" as possible and minimizing chances of voiding your factory warranties related to the suspension.  Spacers and new UCAs are well know to GM and they are cracking down on them a bit as mentioned in one of their "KB" bulletins (EDIT:  not "KB" bulletins , meant to say "TSB" and "PIT" bulletins).  The 5100 struts on your model truck will give from 1.5 to 2 inches of lift (they advertise "up to 1.85" inches).  I got 1.5 inches with mine set on the highest level (they have different height adjustments).  Others are getting 2 inches of lift but all are getting between 1.5 and 2 inches like you want.  Further, the 5100s solve the problem of driving off-road and taking dips/speedbumps way better than the stock shocks.   If you do the struts in the front, I would also do the rear 5100 shocks, which is what I did, and love them compared to stock.  I did mine at 4WheelParts (total cost about $750 for everything installed and the final wheel alignment.

Do you have a link to the kb bulletin? And are you saying the bilsteins wouldn't fall under the crack down?

Sorry, I meant to say "PIT" and "TSB", not "KB" (KB is for Microsoft Windows issues).  Anyway, it is "PIT5403B" and "TSB 09-00-89-016E".  The PIT has the real specifics.  I am a factory warranty nut and always have been because dealer work is so costly and parts these days are insane.  However, I really wanted to do some "light" modifications to make the truck more usable and better looking.  I think that technically, even the Bilstein strut would void the suspension warranty in the front if a dealer wanted a way out--this includes bigger tires too and rims with non-factory offsets (I put 33" on versus the 31.5 inch stock tires).  It probably depends on the dealer and the issue--I just don't know the enforcement frequency.  I have not been challenged yet but my thought is that I won't be having issues with the front suspension because if the Bilstein sales pitch is true, I won't be stressing suspension parts like ball joints because it works within the same exact stock spring and does not in anyway overextend the stock suspension (does preload the spring though)--this was the only product I was willing to take the calculated risk on and I saved the original struts just in case.  An even safer play would be to get a GM dealer aftermarket department to put these on--especially the dealer you bought the truck from if possible.  If you go back to the same dealer for work I think they would be more lenient and I suspect that is how most guys are doing this to be super safe or maybe it is rarely enforced.  An even safer play is to get the dealer to add the parts during the new truck purchase--that is my plan for future trucks.

I have a '14 I'm using a rc 2" front level and it sits dead nuts level at 38 1/2" front and rear. I'm looking to do the zone add a leaf in the rear to help with sag and give me some rake back. Anyone running this set up give some insight to how much higher the rear will sit and maybe post a few photos?? 2018 Denali with magneride. Readylift Tubular upper control arm swap and 2.25 strut spacer Leveling. Stock rear and stock 22 wheels. Love the new stance. I still have a slight rake which is perfect for the occasional tow or heavy load.

The tubular upper control arms have a thicker profile than the stock stamped UCAs. As a result I did not need relocation brackets for the magnaride sensors.

I had an add a leaf from a different company that was very good. It raised the rear 1 1/4”.

 

FYI, the front had a TGC 2.5” level in this pic. I eventually went to a 2” level and 1” rear block because I didn’t like the loss of factory ride and decreased range level of travel in the front at 2.5”. The increased clearance I ended up with is exactly what I wanted and I’m happy with the setup with the bigger LTZ stock wheels and tires.

Based on the 2000 samples in the SPEEDiagnostix database, increasing the oil viscosity in these engines, even those run on the track, showed no significant difference in results.   The smoking gun was in the oil chemistry. That is where the data shows higher instances of more wear. Molybdenum was the key; the higher the amount, the less the wear. Speed postulates that higher viscosity oils have more thickeners to artificially inflate their viscosity numbers. These thickeners lose viscosity under shear, and the result is that not all oils of the same viscosity have the same shear stability.   Having enough viscosity is the most important characteristic, but according to Speed, once that required viscosity level is reached, additive chemistry matters more than additional viscosity. Speed also states, oil pressure problems on the racetrack aren’t a viscosity problem; it’s an oiling system problem. Running a thicker oil is just a band-aid for an underlying oiling system problem.
    • Can it still be Assembled II?   Viscosity on the decline by various means. Heat on the rise making that worse. Engine RPM in the tank. Smaller motors with more boost trying to emulate an electric motor. Full torque, zero rpm. Then we will triple the OCI. Argh.    But wait....there is more. LSPI has pushed a shift from Ca to Mg and as that cost more PLUS the run to lower sulfur compounds the TBN is moving in the wrong direction for the increased OCI's demanded.    That not being enough to placate a demand for a parameter they can't measure the other sulfur bearing compounds are also under attack. That would be zinc and phosphorus sulfonate compounds. To some degree those are being replaced with boron esters and others, i.e. titanium ect. All of which have shorter service lives. And there there is the "Secrete Sauce" marketing for AW adds that 'Can't be detected by UOA's" but trust me because I (the blenders) never ever lie.    Spoiler alert; ALL additives are sacrificial! Smaller amounts of the old blended with less robust versions of the new do not equal longer service lives. So what are the blenders recommending? Wait for it.......   MOVING THE GOAL POSTS! OMG      Let's declare the long standing TAN/TBN crossover irrelevant and tell people that soot is a great 'graphite' based lubricant which can aid tribo films. Wait, what? Let's declare that the standards used for oxidation and nitration were to conservative and can be expanded. Let's tell them that because GDI fuel dilution, although being a VISCOSITY KILLER and an acid generator is actually okay because we have better base oils that limit viscosity failure limits. (Said knowing this is measured in fractions of a centipoise and in bases not commonly used in shelf oils)   Lying from the heart is not just the new normal but we have a public, a very young public, that is so ignorant of the facts and so sure of their "RESEARCH" into AI driven models base in regurgitated  instead of scientific research based unvarnished, peer reviewed FACTS that the incoming guard is loosing their grip on reality and the OEM's are tickled pink while the blends bend the knee.    You have an ever limited set of tools to work with. And sooner or later those will be taken from you as the API and the EPA strangle the last remaining fluids from the system. What you have left is your wits. If you care to use them.    At some point in the very near future it will not longer be possible to do "What is best for the machine", and be replaced with "The best you have access too". You WILL be rewarded with half the life and twice the cost. That isn't that hard to predict.         
    • I trust you saw the other comment where he knew what he was talking about !. Yes, these darned newer vehicles with all their so smart they are stupid technology, goes and drains the battery down. As you might see my other comment, I installed a Noco 5 battery tender under the hood and at this point still have the cord routed so I have to lift the hood and then plug it in but am typically parked in a garage or a shed so its not risking the engine hood in the wind. That way I am assured or hopefully so of not finding I have a battery drawn down and can't even start the truck and that also damages the battery to draw it down too far. 
    • I guess no surprise my guesses were wrong !, at least now I know if I ever happen to see it grayed out in my own truck as to what is going on.    I never happened to catch my truck with it grayed out, it seemed every time I would test to see if there was an update it never found anything and yet more than once I would check to see if there was an update and there was nothing, then a day later or even that same morning I would drive to town and after more than one engine shut down in town as I did my errands it would pop up that there is an update now ready to install and the only place I have a connection to the internet is at home by wifi so its not as if it grabbed the download while driving. I don't trust these new vehicles due to all the crap they can decide to do while sitting for some days not running and run the battery down so most of the time if I know the truck will sit for a few days I plug in the battery tender I have mounted under the hood and so the only time the truck must have downloaded software was when it was sitting in the garage where the signal is awful but I have that tender plugged in and somehow it managed to download it. I honestly detest all this crap, way to easy to leave a person stranded.    Since I don't trust any of it I don't do the install of the already downloaded software until I get home and sometimes have even sat in the truck to watch what its doing as its going through the process to its conclusion as its not like it is set up that it will tell you the next time you fire up the engine that the update that was initialed actually installed or installed properly. Yes I can go into the updates and see the list. After I go through the install where I feel its safe to do so in case it breaks down as a result, I will plug in the battery tender after the fact to recharge as I don't know how much power its taking just to do the install and that can take a while for it to install. 
    • Thanks for the reply. All settings were correct and the engine was off, as it was supposed to be. It turned out to be something simple. I took a drive for about an hour. I must have had a low battery without knowing it. The voltage gauge on the display looked ok. At the end of my drive, I shut off the engine and the update prompt came up and it updated normally. It’s ironic because one of the features of the update is a reduction of battery drain.
