Snow!!

First snow here in CT, I have to go out later so I will be able to see how my truck handles. Anyone in a more snow covered state, how do they handle in the snow compared to other trucks?

I've owned lot's of 4wd trucks over the years, and this is the best one in the snow I've ever had.

My truck has the goodyear SRA's and so far the truck has been performing well.

I have mixed feelings.

 

Double cab standard bed...

 

Got a 2 day storm last week that dumped around 30" of wet heavy stuff around town (42" if you go up the shore 20 miles) during the storm I had no problems getting around town and getting used to the truck.

 

Temps bottomed out right after the storm and have stayed in the -15f range at night 0f in the day since. Took it on a 3 hour each way trip and didn't love how it felt on the highway and the rear end seemed to break free fairly easy. Around the cities I wasn't thrilled with it on the greasy ice pack.

 

That being said, I realized when I got home that my Auto setting & 4wd aren't working. I also didn't put any sand tubes in the back until last night, which so far seem to help as much as I was expecting they would.

Wow! I would take it that it went pretty well considering no 4x4. I hope it gets fixed for you quick, sounds like you live in a rough weather area.

Pardo, the stuff I was in with no 4x4 probably wouldn't have needed it too badly...

 

Big thing was at speed on the interstate the back broke free when I accelerated a touch, normally the Auto would have kicked in and it wouldn't have broke free. It could have been playing tricks on me, but I felt the the rear end was just really loose at speed...with the sand tubes, I'm sure it would have been better...

 

I also have to remember that unless you consider an Avalanche a pickup (its not), I haven't really driven a pickup (other than a plow truck at low speed) as a regular vehicle for about 12-13 years. So, I might be a bit spoiled to having a lot of rear end traction.

Hey I'm down here in Stamford and was killing it in 4 auto going through Darien this morning. Just the right amount of snow to see what this thing is capable of!

In Madison here looks like its going to be a good day to try it out. What tires do you have? I have the Goodyear SRA I thought they would be good but some on the forum here don't like them.

Mine has done fine as well. We only got maybe 3-6" of snow and ice, Used 4wd at the start, but now been in 2wd and even on the remaining ice and snow pack the truck has done fine, though I did dump the GY tires and went with Nitto Terra Grapplers.

Yea my 20's came with the "upgraded" Goodyear Wranglers which I have read suck in wet conditions and actually cause vibrations over 70+ MPH but I haven't fully been able to see them in those conditions yet. I did feel a slight vibration the other day going about 70-75 MPH but not to the point were I'm going to Web MD myself into a paranoia like I've seen other members do. There's a few members that have had such bad experiences with the Goodyears that they got their dealers to swap them for Michelin's so I'm curious as to how that works.

I have the Goodyear SR A's 20 inch on both of my 14 4x4 crewcab Silverado's. They have both performed very well in all the ice we have had in North Texas this last week. Have taken road trips in both trucks driving up to 90 mph and no vibration or unusual steering effects at all.
