Here is a video I made yesterday with in cab sound clips of the Corsa Sport cat back on my 5.3L. This driving is mostly around town. I plan on doing a highway sound clip soon.

like most of you I too was looking for a more aggressive sounding exhaust note. Day after I brought my truck home I bought a Borla S-Type Cat Back exhaust and had it installed a couple days later. While I like the sound much better than stock, I would like it to be significantly louder.

I also have an airaid CAI (didn't really notice a change in sound after installing)

I've read the first 10 or so pages but as I don't really have a solid understanding of how exhaust systems work most of it is flying over my head.

I want to eventually add long flow headers and a tune but that's going to be a while down the road. In the meantime, is there a cost effective way to deepen and make my exhaust louder? I keep reading you guys talking about removing the third cat, removing the flapper valve... Is that something I can have done? Or was it done already when the shop installed my exhaust.

If your Borla s-type was a cat back system you no longer have a flapper valve.

Removing the 3rd cat wont deepen the sound much at all. And is illegal to do in California.

Apart from totally changing the exhaust, there really isn't a way to make that Borla system any louder. And actually the only other Borla system would be their ATAK system, which I think is obnoxiously loud. The s-type is the middle of the road. Touring system would be under it.

Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum but not new to GM vehicles or forums. I've had exhaust cutouts on several vehicles and I just ordered Dougs H1133 y pipe and going to install it before deciding on which electric valve to go with. I've searched and haven't found anyone who has installed a y pipe or cutout on a 14 model. I'm pretty excited about this. I always loved having a completely stock quite truc, then flip a switch and vwalla! Loud enough to scare onlookers. Below is a pic of the pipe that I intend on cutting 10 inches or so out to install the pipe. It's supposed to ship out on the 14th.

It appears that the pic didn't load. Anyway, my question is has anyone installed one and has anyone had any issues? I assume I'll Loose a little low end TQ but hopefully won't cause any issues a check engine light.

I have not seen anyone with a cut out on these trucks either. Around Christmas I plan to get some Doug Thorely Try Y long tube headers with no cats and I plan to get a cut out installed just before the second cat as well at the same time. From the cut out I will have an extension put on so that the exhaust coming through the cut out will be able to go back into the exhaust pipes after the muffler and will be able to exit the tailpipes as if there was no cut out at all, but it will be much louder when the cutout is open, as you know Can't wait to hear (haha hear) how everything comes out with your cut out! I am definitely interested to see which one you go with since you have done this before and probably know which brands are best to go with.

Definitely a very strong candidate for truck exhaust of the year. Wow, that sounds tough!!

Quick question, is it the headers that give it the loud idle, or the exhaust? I really like how loud and rumbly it is at idle, plus how long its lasts, most that i hear don't stay loud for very long, now i don't know if thats from the video or headers? Also can I use a different tip without effecting the sound or tone? I would like just to put a single 4" or 5" tip.

The headers definitely enhance the note and make it louder.

Don't really care about gaining 2 MPG. So far I have been leaning to that Corsa Sport. Just want something aggressive. I don't care about drone. Honestly think people make a big deal over nothing. If you don't want it loud don't put it on.

Beauty of Corsa is it is loud and aggressive but no drone in the cab at cruise even with the headers

Temp installed ( with clamps) it sounds pretty food but not as loud as I expwxted. It seems like 20% ish of the exhaust is still going through the remainder of the stock system (which seems normal) I'm about to figure out how to pot a pic and/or vid from my phone.

Right on Mike. I'll take a couple More in a day or two regarding clearance and whatnot and email YA a vid or two as well. There appears to be ample clearance for some jegs or summit cutouts but the Dougs (the ones a want) are iffy since they are bulkier. I looked everywhere for measurement Specs but can't find them for their electric cutouts.

Ok I have my Borla muffler coming in tomorrow and will be installing it with 3” single inlet with dual 2.5” outlets to the rear of the bed, empting out on both sides near the bumper. I need to know where this “flapper valve” is. If I have this straight there is a forward cat that can be removed, as well as the flapper valve and the resonator near the rear dump (can see from wheel well).

Am I correct? My plan is to remove all three as long as the front cat does not have a sensor, which I believe it does not.

I need the location of the flapper valve…
