No... drone is drone.. the only noise cancelling trucks are the 6.2 powered ones anyway. Mine is a 6.2.. it drones like any other truck. Swapping from MBRP to my Borla ATAK improved it to a more tolerable level.

Have you heard an SType? I'm curious how it compares. I wanted to get the ATAK but was afraid of it being too loud/obnoxious, but I'm now thinking it might be pretty great still.

Nope. Never even considered the other Borla options when I was looking.

Just ordered the Borla S Type to replace my Gibson on my 2015 Sierra. Looking forward to getting it. Was torn between Corsa and Borla. What sealed the deal was speaking to a guy at Borla today he told me all about the differnt ones and mentioned how they got the actual tooling from GM to make the flange where the stock clamp goes. I had so many issues with my Gibson leaking at this spot because their flange was not rounded like the GM one. Pretty pumped hope it sounds good.

I know this may be a longshot but would anyone on here mind telling me how much a shop in your area quotes you for exhaust and header install? I just want to make sure I'm not being overcharged.

I'd guess about 5 hours labor. My brother and I do all my truck work (him mostly since he's the mechanic).

I wish I was that handy or had just as handy friends. Unfortunately where I'm from shops in my area all charge excessively for work like this.

Check for any performance shops around.

Well I got it done today and I'm not sure what to think yet. He did an AT3030, 3"-2.5" Y pipe and 2.5" all the back with 3" tips. When I first started it, it almost sounded like the factory exhaust. I revved it up some and it started to get louder.

Well I had a bunch of running around to do today so the more I have been driving it the louder it has been getting (in a good way). At idle, it's pretty quiet with a very mild tone. At cruising/highway speeds it's very mild as well. If I hammer it gets louder but I'm not sure if I want it louder. I'm going to try this for a month and if I don't like it, I'll be swapping it.

Just so I understand what you did correctly. 3rd cat to AT 3030, 3" out to Y pipe then 2.5" out the rear. You removed the stock muffler and resonator as well as the valve thing? May I ask what that cost for the job?

Now that you are asking, I can't remember if he did 2.25 or 2.5"? For some reason, 2.25" sticks in my head because of back pressure. Everything else is correct though, from the third cat back was removed (resonator, valve, and muffler). I asked him about removing the third cat and he said it was pointless and would not affect the sound so I just left it.

He has done all my exhaust work over the years so he cut me a little deal. $500 is what I paid out the door. That was for the AT3030, labor, exhaust piping and black chrome tips (which cost a little more than regular chrome). He isn't the best priced in town but his work is truly amazing. He has people travel out of state to get work done by him and is known for building complete systems from scratch for hot rods. I called around and one shop quoted me $700 and another quoted me $450. So for $500, I figured it was worth it because I knew it would be done right.

Does anyone have a fully catless set up on their 5.3? Currently I run a catback that deletes the resonator and muffler. I was looking at long tube catless headers and a catless y or x pipe. Want to hear a sound clip of it. Also what brands do you recommend I can only find kooks and they are about 2k for the headers and y pipe so I'd still need to get a catback system which is another couple hundred made at my local shop in friends with.

I have Texas Speed LT Headers and Catless Y.

When I installed the Headers, I had a 3" catback with Borla muffler and no resonator. I found it to be too loud/raspy for my taste. So I took it off.

I then put the OEM 2.75" catback back on with the headers, and I found it to be too quiet.

So, what I ended up doing is keeping the OEM catback on the truck. I took the stock muffler and flapper out and put the Borla in it's place. I kept the stock resonator in place.

I am very happy with the way my truck sounds now.

FYI: Texas Speed are about $650 (http://www.texas-speed.com), Kooks you can get around $1300-1400 (http://marylandspeed.com/), you have to call them to get the best price. They don't advertise it online.

Do yor long tubes have cats? I was looking at the kooks catless LT and catless Y which together was like 2100$ crazy since I'd still have to have a catback system made.

Long Tubes never will have cats, it's the Y pipe that has the cats in them or not.

Kooks are great, and if you call Maryland speed, you can get them a lot cheaper than $2100.

Gotcha. Do you prefer your Texas speed over Maryland?

You can read up on the Texas Speed Header thread for full details.

In short though, Yes I am happy with the Texas Speed Headers. They are half the cost with the same net results. They did rub the transmission crossmember, however I fixed that with a quick trim of the bracket, that took 10 mins.

EDIT: Also, marylandspeed isn't the brand. They are a seller of major brands, like Kooks, ARH, Magnaflow, etc. They just seem to be priced the best on Kooks from past experiences.

    • On my wife's 2020 Blazer (~69000 miles), we started to notice the brakes pulsating at faster speeds. Typically around town you don't notice anything, but highway/interstate driving you will notice it. I decided to pull of the front tires and look at the brakes. I figured with the milage, the pads should be wearing out to their life span, but they actually looked decent. Still with "meat" on them. One pad has a ridge wearing in it, and that same rotor is showing the ridge too. That's not the concerning part...the other rotor appears to have a raised bump on it!  The picture make it look like a pimple! Very odd and strange! NOTE: These are the factory brakes and rotors.   I'm attaching pictures of the front brakes and what they look like ate ~69000 miles.
    • 2024 Chevrolet 2500 HD Custom 6.6 Gas Canadian built Truck  I tried to search for my previous thread on this topic but cant find it so my apoligies  for starting another one    #1   Since we have owned our truck purchased new it has this strange noise after using the remote start function  you press the remote start and you hear it start but right at the end of it starting it almost seems like it wants to start again after the truck is running .   There is no gap in time it is right at the end of the start . Almost sounds like when you have started a car/truck and its running and then you try and start it again and you get that grinding noise ,sort of     #2  You can only hear this if you are standing outside of the truck and near the truck  you cant hear it when you start the truck from inside  the cab . So it may very well be happening when starting the truck that way as in normally    #3   This only happens when it is started after sitting . For how long I don't know but it happens after sitting overnight for sure and it wont do it if you stop the engine after starting and then start it again  I have had it in to the Dealership before concerning this but they did not have the truck  when it was cold to hear it . Now its back in the Dealership left it overnight so they could possibly hear the problem . They said they tried and nothing happened . Well they did not know what they were listening for . I started the truck remotely and BINGO it makes the noise . Oh that sounds weird they say . We need to look into it ! I have left for this week at the Dealership    Does your 2024 2500 HD gas do this ?  Any of you fellas care to take the time and trouble to film this operation from a cold start  so I can hear what your sound like  Really  would like to know if this is anormal sound  Thank You Fellas !!
    • 2026 Z71.  The other day I was backing a trailer into the barn.  The alarm was going off just because the trailer was in the field of the warning sensors when you get too close to something.  For some reason now the warning alarm doesn't work anymore.  It used to go off when I was just normally backing my truck into garage.  I still have the guidelines in the back up camera.  Is there a button or something to push to turn the sound/Alarm on and off?  I have the touch screen in this truck.  There isn't a "P" on the dash except for the parking brake.  I can't find anything in the touch screen under settings or vehicle.  Thank you in advance.
    • Well one of our most reliable vehicles was sold yesterday. The first and only I gave for free to a grandkid. If they got skin in the game they take care of it. My wife bought new. Five years later my daughter got it to use. We got it back and gave it to our grandson after graduation. He did zero maintenance just oil changes. When the AC quit he drove his mother’s car rather than get it fixed. Instead he just bought a beater and sold the Elantra.
    • I usually do as well or better than the sticker for mileage. Usually better going west than east. North then South. Wind makes a difference. I’m not usually a conspiracy theorist. But it did dawn on me I’m going by the vehicle calculation. Now that would be interesting.
