LED Fog Bulbs & Lights

To those with LED pods, and possible prior knowledge from testing this, do y'all know if it is somehow possible to almost create a cut off line on the pods in your fogs so they can be street legal (or atleast not blind all incoming traffic). I'm thinking kind of like how projectors have the shutter that create a cut off. Could you somehow block off the bottom half, or the top half, of the reflectors in led bars and pods to block the upper light output creating a cut off?

Just some thoughts And questions I had.

I'm sure you could. They are easy enough to open up but the problem will be making the optic still usable enough to make a difference

Just got my lights in. 30" single row in the grill and 54" curved led bar on the roof. I still can't decide what to do on the fogs. I'll Probably get some off brand led cubes that are less bright and use that.

For those with the rigid D2 fog mount kit if you have pics of installing them please post them I'm wanting to know if you can adjust the angle when the lights are in

Would love to see pics of this as well, especially the one behind the all-terrain grille. Any chance a double row would work behind an all terrain grille?

I'm kinda thinking I'll just make my own fog light kit and get it cut out to fit, and just use some off brand led pods so they won't be as bright as the rigid industries d2 led pods and just use them for everyday driving. I really don't think it will kill anyone in the oncoming traffic. But surely I can get away with some small led pods in my fog lights if these guys can get away with these as their primary headlights:

I think these are for sema/show truck, those truck might not ever see traffic

I think these are for sema/show truck, those truck might not ever see traffic

KUGG is correct, those are sema trucks / show trucks.

However, I do believe Florida allows for such headlights on the road.

Not 110% sure, but I remember hearing about it before that those are legal there for low beams.

I believe all headlights must be DOT approved no matter what state you're in. Same with tail lights, turn indicators, etc..

you might look for real foglights. The have a cutoff that won't blind oncoming traffic. TRS sells a new round LED foglight that will keep you out of trouble and work well.

Just because those Chinese lights are cheap doesn't mean they aren't bright.

My opinion of a foglight suitable to use with oncoming traffic is that it be less than 1500 lumens, have a sharp cutoff, and be adjusted so it isn't glaring in oncoming traffic. The new Morimoto foglights meet that description.

I installed the Rough Country 2" LEDs today. I used the Rigid D2 brackets for the 14MY Sierra and custom made brackets to make it all work.

Here is the finished product:

Just an FYI these lights are VERY BRIGHT! I took a few night pictures last night with my stock setup. I will take some tonight with the new setup and post for everyone.

Next up in HIDs!

Since the led pods are too bright for on road use, could one possibly purchase a clear cover for the pod and tint it to keep it from being as bright and make it more reasonable for on road use? That way if one planned to use it off road then they could just remove the cover and use it as it was intended.

Rigid sells colored and smoked covers for their LED lights. I wouldnt be surprised if they fit other companies lights as well.

Even tho they have 'only' 3 LEDs they still put out 2400 lumen which is pretty bright.

It's not just the brightness, it's the beam control. Off-road driving lights can be a taller beam than a true fog light. A good fog light will have a sharp cutoff on the top of the beam.

If you're just tooling around town 'profiling' with your fog lights on, I wouldn't think you'd want them to be bright enough to catch a cop's attention nor glare into oncoming traffic. If I were a traffic cop, every time I saw a car or truck cruising around town on a clear night with fog lights on, It'd catch my attention, but not because I thought it was cool.
