Heated Steering Wheel Questtion

Had a question as noted above. Was finally cold enough to use my heated wheel and noticed that in only gets warm for about 15 minutes then cools off except in 7 o'clock. position. Light on wheel stays on, can shut off and turn back on and will get warm for 15 minutes again. When I was at last service they told me that is how it was suppose to work, only stays warm for a short period to protect element....... I am not sure I buy that story. If is suppose to shut off why does it stay lit? Rear window defroster auto shut off and the light shuts off as well (in most vehicles anyway, never tried on GMC).

Before I go back and meet with manager, just wanted to see what everyone else with wheel heater says.

I've noticed it cools off after 10-15 mins but never gets cold, never noticed it staying warm at 7 o'clock position. But your right the light stays on until you turn it off or exit the truck.

Mine get's pretty darn hot and then cools down some, but it never gets cold. Seems to stay warm but not hot as the intitial 10-15 min blast.

Same here. I never tried turning it off and back on again to see if it gets hot again instead of warm..

I "upgraded" from a 2013 BMW with heated steering wheel to this truck. The BMW's heated steering wheel was really warm. The heated steering wheel on my GMC Sierra sucks! I don't know if it's intended to be this way(lukewarm) or if its a defect.

I think GM uses some kind of programmable module for their seat heaters and possibly also for heated steering wheels. This module regulates the amount of current going to the heating element. Possible reprogramming of the module for better heating?

I have a 2013 Taurus. The heated steering wheel works the same way. After 15 min it cools down or shuts off and the light that says it's on does not shut off. I have to turn it off then back on to heat the wheel again.

The high around here lately has been around -5 degrees and I can tell you my Denalis heated wheel works perfect..after about 5-8 minutes I shut it off for a bit as its gets very warm. Now remember the temperature will be affected by what type of gloves you do or dont wear. With this heated steering wheel I no longer wear gloves driving so with bare hands it gets "very warm" within 30 seconds.

GM did it right imo, no need for sweaty palms from the wheel just getting hotter and hotter. Warm them up and just keep them warm

Mine gets very warm then cools down but you can still feel a little heat.
