Oh, so the aluminum one is having leak issues?  Hmmm.

That was 3 years ago according to one business that installed them. It is easy to see how it could happen the way the are designed. Call ReTrax Customerservice and talk to them. Nice folks!

The aluminum is a better choice.  The Lexan is not as UV light resistant and will tend to crack over time if it's in the sun a lot.

I’m retired so mine doesn’t even get driven everyday and stays in the garage so that doesn’t really concern me. . Lexan is pretty tuff stuff. It’s what motorcycle windshields are made of and seems to hold up well. I’m betting mine will last as long as I need it. Plus, I won’t have to worry about it leaking.

I have a question on anyone with a topper.  I got a Ranch Icon topper with keyless entry put on a few weeks ago and I'm not happy with it.  Here are my issues:

1. The fitment isn't very good.  The rear of the topper is tight to the truck like a glove, but as it approaches the front of the cab, it flares out about 1/2" (pic attached), so it's outside the profile of the truck and I think it looks tacky.  Ranch says it is normal, the vendor says that the boxes on the 2014-2018 trucks varies a lot and that is why, but I don't buy it.

2. The vendor did a pretty poor install job on the harnesses, they spliced into my bed lighting wiring with compression splices and there was a wire just hanging down in the bed where most of the others were routed inside the bed rail.

3. I went to fix the wiring and put it in split loom to look better and when I lifted it up, I noticed the paint down the bed rail was chipped off where the topper met the bed in 4 or 5 spots, some over an inch long (pic attached).  This really makes me mad because I don't plan to run a topper all the time and now my bed will surely rust if it isn't fixed.

4. The latch for the cap wouldn't fully engage on the left side (there are 2 stages to the latch, wouldn't get to the second stage).  I brought it in and they fiddled with it and now that works, but it seems like that should work from the factory... (pic attached)

5. Water was leaking in.  I know they may not be completely water tight, but it was pretty bad, dripping all down the cab side rail and in from the tailgate.  When I took it in for the latch they put a couple more layers of cap tape on it to seal it better.

So my questions are, for those of you running truck caps, which one do you have and do you have any fitment or quality issues?  Are they nice and snug?  Did your cap damage the paint at all?

I'm going to call them tomorrow and I'm thinking I'll return this thing if they will allow it.  If they don't, I guess I'll be stuck taking legal action.  And I need to get this paint fixed and they are going to pay for it.

I've got a Rough Country hard tri-fold tonneau cover on it's way to my house, should be here Saturday.

I'll get some pics and feedback after I install it.

Install was a breeze (like 10 mins) the hardest part was getting the front lip seal unfolded correctly.

It fits well and the seals seems pretty quality.

It just started raining pretty good so I should be able to report back on water leaks, if any, later today.

Ordered on Tuesday, $600 shipped to my house, showed up today.

That looks a lot like my SolidFold 2.0. I get a little bit of water at the tailgate and through the seam closest to the gate, but I’m in So Cal and rain is a rare occurrence. After 3 years it’s holding up great. Good luck!

I'm sure it's just a rebranded something or other.

The solid fold was the closet looking one I saw as well, but the RC hinges are exposed/on the outside compared to the hidden/internal hinges on the Extang.

It rained pretty much all day yesterday and today here in WA and I kept checking every few hours and found no puddles so I think this will fot the bill just fine.

Thanks for the feedback and luck crewl1!

Holy smokes!  That's a horrible fit and they definitely dinged up your rails on the install.  I believe their story about variances in the bed to be BS.  I doubt beds stick out that far from the cab side, even if they aren't perfect.  That's a big wind fence sticking out the side that's going to catch water, wind and dirt for sure.  Does it whistle going down the road too?

I've only ever had one topper years ago on an S-10 I had when I was in the Air Force.  Fit was perfect and definitely none of the issues you have.  If that was an install I got, I wouldn't even have left their business with that mess.

For anyone on the fence about any covers... if you have an Amex Everyday POINTS card, there is currently a deal between Amex and Amazon for 20% off up to $500 (total of $100 discount) on any product shipped and sold by Amazon.

Because of this, I finally pulled the trigger on the Truxedo Pro x15. Spent 33,000 points and only paid $240 or so on the Amex.

When I installed my tonneau cover, I noticed the front and the tailgate area of the bed was about an inch narrower than the middle. So yes, the beds can not be perfectly square. As for the install? Holy bummer Batman! If you don't get satisfaction, call the Better Business Bureau (BBB). They will bug them for you. Good luck.
