Can anyone shed some light on the different weights u can tow with both the 3.0& & the 3.42? How different is the tow capability between the two

You need to refer to the 2014 GM tow guide. I suspect there will be at least 2,000 lbs difference. The difference between two gear ratios means that the truck equipped with the 3.08 axle ratio will have about 10% less torque available at the wheels in any gear, given the engine and transmissions are the same.

All the towing capacities are listed in the owners manual. Pretty much every possible configuration is in there.

 

The 3.08 gears are really meant as "highway gears." They will net the best mileage on the highway with any of the three new motors. For around town, they are going to suck, which is what you are experiencing.

The 3.08 can tow 6600 punds and hte 3.42 can tow 9600 pounds.

So going with the 3.08 gears sacrifices approximately 1/3 of the total towing capacity that you have with the 3.42 gears.

Don't look at it that way. You're not sacrificing anything. You can tow 6600 lbs with the equipment you purchased. Those who paid more to get the 3.42 can tow more.

Even with 87 I averaged 9 the past 2 days.. All around town driving.

 

Idk how that's even possible I have a 308 5.3 gmt900 and it gets 17-19 city hand calculated many many full tanks running regular from all different gas station in weather as low as -5
