You should be able to wire a relay off the puddle light in side mirror, so the LED pods/lights only come on when you unlock/lock at night.

 

That's my plan... whenever I eventually get around to it. My pods are still sitting on my shelf.

Do you know by any chance if those lights come on when you use the Dome Override switch to turn off/door/on the dome lights? Like if you switch them to on will those lights come on while I'm driving? I don't particularly enjoy the cold very much and don't want to go outside if you already know the answer. If they do then I guess I'll just have to remember not to use that switch while on the road, or at least while I am in Kenner.

Also Moto, do you know the least invasive way I could do this on the truck. Would rather not have to cut into this thing if possible. Minimal modifications to the actual car itself until the warranty goes away! Haha. And would I just be able to wire splice into the the puddle lights' wires? On my old car everything was just easier to wire splice into. So I never really became accustomed to using relays and don't know any good brands to use. Or really what to look for.

Neat. Would like to add some LED's on my truck; kind of like a plow truck / strobe effect but just for fun. Throw out some ideas and suggestions.

They only come on when unlocking/locking entering/exiting vehicle.

 

Near the parking brake is the door's wiring bundle. As for which wire is the puddle light's, I haven't got around to finding/testing. Last couple weeks, work has been crazy busy.

awesome thanks for the info! I'll have some time in the next week, not a huge fan of parades, or atleast most of the people there haha. I'll try to figure it out tonight or sometime this weekend and will share my findings! And Aaron, if you want some inexpensive lighting that is still very long lasting quality, check out Xkglow. i have never had a problem with them other than an underglow malfunctioning on my friend's car. however His gut did knock his truck off a jack which ended up jamming into a light strip and breaking it in half. lol

Lights came in yesterday. Hooked them to bed lights for a quick test. Not as bright as I had hoped, but I think I had a bit high of hopes for a small 6 LED pod. But nonetheless they are still very bright for their size! Currently searching for a GM OEM bed light kit for <$80. Would rather not spend much more than that but if I can't find them then imma put 2 pods per side in the bed. One in center and one at the far end against the bulkhead. Gonna try to work on it this weekend. Will post any findings and do a write up if I can get the puddle light idea working effectively

Progress made finally and updates are as follows:

 

Got the engine lights in finally!

Used two small 6LED pods from Xkglow.com, lights are very nice! The only lights on in the pics are from the two pods. Nothing else!

 

Also I found an extra bed light kit. A Chevy dealer keeps putting them up for auction on eBay. Messaged the seller and got them for only $75!

Also from XKglow. I saw their DRL lights that you can hook up as: regular DRLs / DRLs you can control through one of their underbody kits, or as a strobe light. It's 500 lumens per light. I got one to try out an idea. I put them under the side step, thus keeping them from dropping any lower than another part of the truck and giving them enough distance to give off a very wide angle, it makes them look like pretty strong puddle lights. The lights are not at full intensity. I hooked them to a 12V battery charger since it was easier to move around and try different positions to place the lights. What do y'all think? Should I try and wire it up as a puddle light or return it?

 

Keep in mind when attaching to the battery/puddle lights, the light will be about 30% brighter. Not overbearing but enough to show useable light, if unobstructed, about 15ft to either side of the truck. Anyone see any pros or cons?

It would probably help if I knew what the B-pillar is haha. But hate the only picture I really have that showed the lights at their almost full intensity. I realized that the lights are basically at their full intensity in the pic. They wouldn't be much brighter

 

I can take a pic tonight of the light 10ft from the b pillar if you wouldn't mind telling me what it is.

 

Also if I do end up putting them in and they are too bright, I could always just get a dimmer switch.

Roof support beams/pillars are designated A, B, C, D... front to back.

The pillars between the windshield and front doors are A. Between front and rear doors are B. Rear corners of cab are C.

Oh that makes sense. I knew the pillars that the windshield mounts to is the A pillar. Didn't know the others were designated the same way

The puddle lights wire comes out of the BCM on connector 7 terminal 8. Gray wire w/ green stripe. Only ? 7 connectors on BCM so it is on one end. Should be LT Gray.

Connector colors as follows. 1 NAT 2 L BLU 3 GRN 4,BLK 5 BRN 6 L PU 7 LT GRY.

Yea ask away! I kept it as basic as possible since it's in the engine compartment. I got the waterproof switch and light pods from XKglow, I mounted the switch on the side wall of the compartment next to the battery. Wired the switch straight to the battery and then ran power wire from switch up and around the hinge and then behind the black heat shield. Then I pulled the wire back out at the top (forward most part of the hood) and then the positive wires split from there to the pods. The negative wires from the pods meet at that same point (top / forward most part of the hood) and I grounded it with one of the bolts up there. Will take pics in the day time tomorrow so it'll better explain. I meant to take pics while I was installing it but I forgot to.
