The latch has a mechanism that has as sensor. When its open the sensor is triggers and it signals the BCM to display a door ajar message on the screen.

 

The sensor is probably concealed in the door though, so You probably have to remove the the door card to get to it.

You might be able to tap into fuse #40 on the passengers side fuse panel that controls the drivers side doors. Maybe someone else could chime in for the fuse location on the passengers side doors. Can't seem to find it in the manual

All that stuff goes through the body control module so I would strongly recommend against piggy-backing onto an existing switch.

How does one hook up the amp power boards? They are hooked up to the door function right?

Okay so I decided earlier today while I was working on my fog light retrofit to finally put some lights in the bumper steps.

 

They come on with the cargo lights. Just spliced into the wire. And to keep from running the wire around the bumper, I just drilled the smallest hole I could to be able to fit the wire inside of it so it could run from the step to immediately behind the bumper.

 

Oh and I painted the sides of the pods black so that they are harder to notice

Hey everybody, I was just hoping somebody could tell me how the truck knows when a door is open. It pops up in my display and tells me which door is open. I am wanting to install led lights under my truck that come on when my door is open. I was thinking that I could somehow tie the lights into that door ajar function.

 

It's a simple tap into a wire in the driver side A-pillar. Just like adding the footwell lights on the interior. If you have a 2014 pull the pillar off and in the bundle there will be a solid grey wire that is a touch thicker than the rest. That wire is responsible for your Dome lights coming on when the door opens.

How do you turn on your "step lights"? Separate switch or linked to lock/unlock? Obviously not meant for reverse duties I assume?

Thanks. And if you mean my step lights, the bumper step lights are hooked with the cargo and bed lights so they stay on as long as the cargos stay on. I just spliced into the wire behind the bumper to keep it simple.

Whole installation took me about 10-20 minutes.

How did you mount the foot well led's? I used led strips there but they are not white and thinking of changing them. I did the step led's and like them. The passenger side foot well does not have many mounting options due to the vent ducts.

I used small LED pods from XKglow.com and they are about 1" x about 1/2" so mounting them is not very difficult. The driver footwell I stuck to the vent duct, passenger I stuck on the black plastic shield under the dash close to the front wall, and it also put some in the second row, I stuck those to the AC fan under the front seats and left enough slack so that they won't get pulled off or yank the wiring off the lights

 

Also what I like about these, other than the fact that they are very small and compact and still put out a fair amount of light, they also, in my opinion, match the white of the stock LED dome lights, so it keeps it looking more like stock instead of looking like an aftermarket thought.
