LED Accent / Puddle Light Pods & Strips

At $20 a pod, it was cheaper to go ahead and buy the Vision X eight light kit. Now just gotta figure out where I want to put them! ha. They're pretty bright, so maybe 2 to 4 as side puddle lights. Not sure about the rest yet....

Maybe a brighter light for under the hood if you have extras? Or extra rail lights in the bed.

Are these surface mount? I was thinking of mounting one on the middle side of the fog lamp plastic bucket. It could possibly light up the side of the viewing area, so when you are turning at night, you would have illumination, similar to the a cornering light. Might end the issue of turning into the dark and landing into a culvert ditch.

Have you got a part number for these? I'm having a heckuva time finding what you have. Also, the pods I did find are colored instead of white.

They can surface mount (completely flat on back) or be mounting from behind surface (drill 1 1/2" hole & push through opening). Bases are aluminum.

Not sure if they're bright enough to function as cornering lights, but if they are, you could put them in the corners of the air dam for a cleaner install/look.

*I'm going to do a factory puddle light v/s pod light comparison this weekend... I'll post pics when I do.

They have several colors, including white. The kit basically gives you the flasher & eight pods for the price of six. If you want five pods or less, buy them individual.

Did some basic testing tonight....

The first two attached pics are one stock puddle light v/s one LED pod light. You can tell in the pics the pod is more focused, but the camera doesn't do them justice. The pod puts significantly more light on the ground, and so the iPhone cam compensates for the increase in reflected light. One per side will be sufficient for extra entry/exit lighting, but I might just do two per side because I have eight of them! ha

For the third pic, I closed the bed cover, held one pod in the upper rear corner, and closed the tailgate about 90% (leaving just enough open to dip my iPhone in to take the pic). You can see they put out about as much as an average $10-15 LED flashlight. While that doesn't sound impressive, remember they are only meant to be accent lights.

I believe they could work as cornering lights, though probably only in the country versus a semi-lit city setting.

OK, thanks! I ordered two whites. Going to play with the idea of cornering lights. Will merely trigger them for now via the fog lights.

I am looking at ordering some light pods for the side of my truck. Coming from my old 02 Yukon which gave off more light than most headlights do, I feel like I'm sitting in the dark sometimes with this new truck. I am looking at putting some lights on the side as puddle lights / rock crawling lights (or thats what they are called in the kit) and the way I would like to do it, is since underbody lights are illegal here in Louisiana on everything but a motorcycle, does anyone know how to make it so that the lights would come on ONLY when the truck is either A) when the dome lights come on BUT ONLY if the truck is in park, or B) when I unlock the car since that only happens when the truck is in park.

My biggest thing is I just don't want to end up turning them on while I'm driving since the cops in my area are notorious for pulling people over for the smallest of things, especially if they drive a brand new vehicle.

I'm thinking about ordering 2 sets. maybe 3-4 pods per side, a 2-3 under hood on their own switch mounted under the hood with the lights, and 2 for extra bed lights, and the rest as foot well lighting in the cab hooked up with the interior dome lights for each seating position (which will be a pain to wire)

You should be able to wire a relay off the puddle light in side mirror, so the LED pods/lights only come on when you unlock/lock at night.

That's my plan... whenever I eventually get around to it. My pods are still sitting on my shelf.
