GM Keyless Entry and Push-Button Start

Doesn't read like a security issue to me.

Reads like an IQ issue. The people involved are the ones that would have locked the keys in the vehicle anyway.

How so? If you're even somewhat close to some of these cars someone can easily walk up, make it unlock and at best be able to go through your belongings and at worst they can drive off. Are his stories stupid? Yeah but imagine if someone did the car swap like he and his wife did and they proceeded to drive on a long trip? A Grand Cherokee diesel has gotta be able to do 5-600 miles on a tank if not better.

Keyless entry is one thing, I think you should still have to have a key to start the vehicle. Just makes for more expensive replacement keys in case you lose or damage one with having a chip in it. I'm a big fan of less electronic gizmos when it comes to a truck. I wish mine had manual windows, the motor on the driver's window is just about to quit so that will have to be replaced sometime soon.

We purchased a 2015 Yukon a week ago and I'm not crazy about the push button start. Keyless entry is ok but nothing I'd trade my 2014 Sierra for. One of the things you can program on the keyless entry is the ability for the vehicle to lock itself when you walk away. Jury is still out on that and we've gone back n forth enabling and disabling it.

Yall are missing the connivence of this feature. On my Z06 and TL you have to be pretty dang close to the car for it to pickup the fob.

It's also impossible to lock your key in the car with these systems.

I'm really frustrated they left the feature out that has been on the vette since 05.

I just see more things to go wrong.. I miss when trucks were easy... I don't need a ton of sensors and gadgets to tell me what to do... and I see these cars parallel parking themselves that just looks dumb as hell.. we're making everyone spoiled and unable to do anything the right way on their own.

As far as passive entry nothing can go wrong. The system just won't work and you'd open it like a regular vehicle with keyless entry. And with Dodge (not sure if anyone else does this) but a lot of the vehicles with push start you can pull the button out and use the fobik..

The only Chrysler system I've run was on a 300 (rental) a few years ago. It was necessary to stick square end of fob into dash. I forget what was done to open door, but I thought a button on fob had to be pushed.

No quite the same with the new GM system.

With regular keyless you have to operate the fob to unlock and use key to operate ignition.

With passive, it automatically unlocks when you operate the door handle and you then have to push button to start vehicle. The fob stays in pocket.

I stopped by the carmax lot the other day to look at some used Infinitis and was surprised that they actually were dumb enough to keep the keys in the little lock boxes on the windows. Every one that I walked up to would start right up with a push of the button. The sales guy got really irritated and excited. I bet if I go back in a day or two they have remedied this in some form or fashion. The things were ripe for thieves to drive off the lot anytime of the day or night. I like the regular ole key and I just am not a big fan of UNINTENDED Consequences.

I actually like having the key as I am more aware of my keys. MY mom's car is push button start and I just leave the keys in the bag and when I forget the bag, I forget the keys.

As for keyless entry, thats why they come when lock and unlock button on our key chain.

I really don't see this as being a big issue, not as big as having a crappy HD receiver for the radio.

My wife has had 2 Jeep Grand Cherokees with "passive" entry/push button start. With the button on the exterior door it's pretty simple, just get out, turn around, hit the button, look at the locks go down and then walk away. When we return all we have to do is wave our hands behind the handle and the doors unlock. Mopar keyless entry systems have motion activated door handles. Something that was adopted from Mercedes.

I know on some GM keyless entry cars the button on the exterior door handle is used to both unlock and lock the vehicle. I do not believe they have motion activated handles.
