Are you serious? My wife has done it 2X on our CTS. When the battery gets low and left in the car, you are locked out no questions asked.

Your wife has ignored the car telling her the battery is getting low in the remote. Or your car needs to be checked by the dealer for a problem.

My TL was driven for almost 2 weeks being reminded I had a low battery.

So they don't work with a dead battery?

Most of the systems I have seen incorporate a key you can slide out of the fob. The vette for instance has a keyhole in the underside of the hatch you can pop the key into. Then you could release the door and put the fob in the glovebox and the car would be able to start.

I like having a lock that can be operated manually if need be. What if the actuator dies? It's nice to be able to still open the door, inside or out.

Most Fords will release a locked door if you pull on the handle twice. It feels like a mechanical thing when I've tried so there's always that.

2013 Avalon had the passive entry/push button start. My wife loved it.....apparently getting keys out of a purse is harder than I understand.

The Avalon came with a procedure to start the car if the FOB became inoperable, such as with a dead battery or swimming with it in your pocket (hey, don't judge me). This procedure involved a witch doctor, two mice and a weather vane.....or something almost as complicated.

Anyway....it was a cool feature.....but I also wondered how many tumors I developed with this thing in my pocket as I touched doors........

OK, but that doesn't do much in the case of a wreck. Haven't you guys driven vehicles with a loose and/or corroded battery cable, that disconnects itself on its own--much less would it keep a connection in any sort of wreck? Even scarier than that, this happened right up the road from me last year:

I'd hate to have to rely on my battery working underwater in order to unlock my own door so I can get out. Elimination of the manual interior mechanism is just a step too far for me.

Wife and I looked at a Jeep Cherokee the other day. It had the push button start. Had to be within five foot with the transmitter to work. Have to admit I kind of liked it. While we were their the salesman was eyballing up my truck. Had to let me know the Ram has the power tailgate lock.

I've done this with other vehicles also. Pull handle twice from inside and it unlocks the door.

There's one on my wife's Mercedes E350 that works about 75-80% of the time. I can do without it on my truck.

Wow, this thread blew up for such a juvenile feature.

In any case I hope its optional, things like passive entry, lane departure, front collision sensors, WiFi hotspot... Give me a break.

I love technology, but there are wasteful efforts. Why not soft suede optional to the hot sticky leather, or plush foam instead of the brick construction under the heated seats, or god forbid rgb selectable dash illumination. Not to mention fully functional dash illumination.

^ Right, people just don't even try to understand the benefit of things. EVERY single reason anyone has mentioned why keys are better than PKE has been axed, other than,"I don't personally like the feature."

If you get into a wreck, submerge your vehicle, etc, etc, etc, there are redundancies.- If all else fails, break the window and crawl out, you're unlikely to be able to open the door until the cabin is filled with water anyways. - If you've read your manual, you'd know how to open the door if the battery where to die, etc. Plus, the corvette has a manual door release.48116.jpg

Okay, what if the airbag fails to deploy? What if my window fails to roll down? What if the brakes fail to apply? What if the intermediate-shaft fails to collapse in a collision? What if? What if? Seriously? I don't see people questioning those features. The fact of life: stuff happens every day, you can't be prepared for everything. You just have to handle them.

Was the OP joking? Somebody please tell me he is joking.... I couldn't read through all the ridiculousness in this thread as I search for the thread where he says.... "Just jerking your chain guys!"

The reason I ask is because I am about the worlds worst impulse buyer, but damn...

Lol. No I'm not kidding! And if they don't fix the shake in this truck I might get all my money back and not loose anything.
