Hello guys, I just bought a 2014, wow what an upgrade from my 2011.

I tow my boat a lot, the camera is awesome BUT, is there a way to access sub (hidden menus) on the screen to activate the camera all the time. Even when the truck is in forward. I guess it's not legal and whatever but it would really be nice to still have camera feed when launching and loading boat at the ramp, especially if it's in park, and sometimes forward. The delay time it gives you when shifting into forward is nice but just not enough. There's a lot back there you still need to see regardless of what gear the truck is in.

 

My buddy has a Nissan Leaf and after a few forum searches he found all kinds of secret button presses and sequences that make this ( and a lot of other camera stuff possible) .

It can't be that far fetched .

I haven't seen anything on hidden menus for MyLink. The Japanese brands seem more common to have stuff like that where the scan tool isn't needed. Then you have the VW software where all you need is $200 or so an a bit of programming knowledge and you can change damn near anything electrical on the car.

At this point, I'd be happy if I could put a new lens in this thing. I swear that my kids LeapPad has a better resolution camera than the piece of crap that's in there now.

I traded a 2012 Ford Edge in for my 2014 Silverado and the Fords backup camera was much better - That's about the only thing that's better.

The new acadia loaner I had had an HD backup camera on it...What a difference.

I test drove one and while I liked the camera, I hated how the lines turned with the wheel. Is there a way to keep them locked in place?

I believe there is a way. It goes like this AAMP of America sells the Intraphex. It interfaces with the MyLink 8". There is a youtube video on it interfacing with the Cadillac MyLink. When I contacted them I was told it would work. I want an additional camera on my front bumper/grill for parking up close without actually hitting anything. Their interface comes with two inputs, one is for the original back up triggered camera and another that could be used for another camera (Front Grill? Rear Towing?) or they have another interface for that interface(!) that allows you to connect your iPhone and mirror what you see on the phone on the MyLink. (I envision texting and youtube videos). All this I heard is done, as you say, by a special press on the bottom right of the screen. But I cannot verify it all unless I see it myself.

 

If anyone does this - please let me know! I would love to try it out if it works.

Yes you can turn this feature off. It's in the mylink under vehicle settings I think. I don't remember if you can lock them in place or just turn them off all togther.

From the Owners Manual...

To turn the Rear Vision Camera (RVC) system rear parking assist symbols or guidance lines on or off:

1. On the infotainment system Home screen, press the Settings screen button, or turn the MENU knob to highlight Settings and press MENU.

2. Select Rear Camera.

3. Press Rear Park Assist Symbols or Guidance Line and then select Off or On.

Agreed, I just told my wife that the other night. I was considering posting a thread asking if there was a way to increase the resolution....the thing always looks slightly out of focus.

 

Interested to see if anyone finds out how to upgrade the lens/camera.

      You won’t do better than stock exhaust without headers. Just put your favorite muffler on it and it will do the job.

      I have seen different people in different places post different sizes of exhaust as stock for my 2014 Sierra L83. Some say 2.5 some say 2.75. I am considering replacing the muffler with a Dynomax Super Turbo, perhaps 17739.  I had the factory L83 5.3 replaced with another L83 5.3 from Jasper Engines. I also put new Walker Cat / Y pipe on. I would appreciate opinions suggestions about what would be a good muffler setup. My main interest is a low rumble and the best flow / fuel mileage I can get. Not interested in straight through glass packs or loud exhaust. Those days are way behind me now.  Thanks Guys.

      Its coolant disguised as oil.   TSB 20-NA-166 -  20-NA-166 1..3   "To inspect for this concern, add coolant dye to the system, run the engine through warm up, pressurize the cooling system after warming the engine to operating temperature (let the engine cool overnight) and inspect the suspect cylinder with a borescope for coolant dye evidence. At times it may be necessary to remove the head for inspection. If the head casting line is the concern, the intake port will be wet with a coolant oil mix"     I'd say its the head, and its either leaking at the casting line and dripping down the intake into the cylinder, or its another spot on the casting itself at the cylinder that is getting wet.

      Can you sample the pooled liquid, enough to confirm it is oil?   ...That its not fuel or coolant.   Also, make sure combustion gases aren't entering the cooling system.   Simply put, either oil being pushed up past the rings (this really isn't possible), oil leaking past the head gasket, oil leaking past the valve, oil entering through the intake air path. If none of this is likely - it may not be oil.   What could be likely is the fuel injector leaking down. A puddle of gas would still smoke and rough idle. (Same cylinder has the same problem after injector replacement?)   What is the crank time first thing in the morning, when the puddle would be present? Does it seem like the high pressure fuel pump needs an extra second or two to rebuild the pressure that injector 8 may have let bleed off? Check the fuel pressure via a scanner prior to starting the engine.

      Good information!  I didn't know about the dementia aspect and asked for a general for my second knee. I'd heard that recovery room time is usually shorter with a general.   The anesthesiologist talked me out of it and I had the spinal.  Inconvenience and/or discomfort is a small price to pay for reduced risk!
