Talking car insurance with our friends this past weekend.....we were with Allstate, he's been with Gieco....we have two vehicles, and our camper fully covered....he has three vehicles, a camper (same as ours), and a 19 year old daughter....he was paying $100 a years LESS. So we made a call to Gieco, went over the numbers, upped our coverage, and added some extras, and get this....saved $1068 a year !!!, when we went to the agent to cancel, he just said "Fine, sign here"....now I've been with Allstate as long as I can remember, it's like he didn't care. My actual point is, look around and see where you can cut, you'd be surprised.

He didn't care because Allstate is ranked as the worst out of the top 10 insurance companies in America. Just google "top 10 worst insurance companies"

As such it's a daily occurrence at your agents office as they typically have a retention of only 70%

So trust me when I tell ya, it's par for the course.

Having said that it is unfortunate you jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire with geico. Who isn't far behind.

Having been in the business for 11 years and knowing the average auto insurance policy yields about 10% profit margin, ask yourself this question..

How is it possible to have by far the largest advertising budget of just over 1.2 BILLION a year in advertising expenses, nearly double the amount of their nearest competitor, save you 15% on car insurance and still faithfully pay your claim as promised?

Somewhere there has to be answer. And unfortunately until you file a claim the answer will for the time being will elude you, when you file and need them most, it will become very clear.

Geico is not in the business of selling coverage! rather they sell policies.

I've been in this business for 11 years! I've never seen a geico policy with sufficient coverage yet. Usually I can cover someone with 5 times the coverage of geico for the same money your paying now.

To prove my point, it's not likely you live in colorado so I couldn't sell you a policy anyway, but if you contact me privately I will look over and verify your covered correctly at absolutely no cost, just for your own benefit and peice of mind. Just to make sure if something happened to you, you'll know your covered correctly.

It never hurts to put another set of eyes on the policy that could mean the difference between you loosing your car, and your home if your sued and in adequately insured.

And now put the money into a saving account.

This will bring you ahead of the game in no-time.

It feels painful slow at the beginning.

But as soon as you've got saved enough money to cover one month expenses it'll make you sleep better and worry less.

so long

Eliminate the things you don't have to have like the ultimate satellite package and stuff like that and you will see a difference. I write down all my bills in a black and white composition book and that way you can actually see where all your money goes, write your bills out for at least a month in advance and don't forget to pay yourself(savings), even if it's as little as $5 still do it and make it to where you have to go inside the bank to get it, no ATM card or checks to that account. Humans like the easy way out the harder it is the more you'll save. People get stuck in the payday to payday rut they think they have to spend all their money to be done for that week and then they struggle till the next payday, and they do it because their parents did it and their parents did it and so on and so on. I struggle with it myself but am getting better, but on a personal note giving God his part will make the ultimate difference that you will not believe. Good luck.

And remember, as I once heard, "as humans we sacrifice what we want the most, in order to get what we want right now."

I got married in november of 2012.. got very sick in December of 2012 (1 month later) I got divorced in June of 2013.. Got very sick again in October of 2013 and almost lost my foot.. (probably would have been cheaper if they would have amputated it right then and there instead of 3 months of IV Antibiotics daily as well as 2 surgeries) Now I have medical bills (what insurance didn't cover) that amount to about $5000 (not too bad considering) A $6000 line of credit that I've had for the past 2-3 years and really did not need but thought I really wanted an old car at that time, so I did it.. I ended up trading in my beloved Duramax 2500 because i could no longer afford a $700 a month truck payment if I wanted to get this debt paid off.. (I forgot to add a $10,000 credit card bill that I now have down to about $6000)

I am 36 years old going on 37.. just a high school education, but feel grateful I have a $44,000 a year job even though I hate my job now after 7 years. Going thru a mid-life crisis I suppose but boo hoo.. who doesn't sooner or later, right? <sigh> Yeah. I hate my life, I hate that I didn't follow the advice given to me by my father and many other wise people when I was younger to get a college eduation and to strive to be my best. Well I am going to get that education Somehow someway. I live at home with my dear sweet old mother (widowed) and she lets me live here rent free for the most part since I help out with all the stuff around the house but will be paying her rent again just as soon as I can afford to. I also need to have a lot of dental work done this year as I lucked out and made it 36 years of my life without too many issues, except now my teeth are starting to wear out. So yes it seems like everything falls down at once, but I am able to take comfort in asking myself and making myself realize just how lucky am I really? As screwed up as the world is, we still live in a decent country and are blessed to have what freedoms and rights we do have, even though we are in jeapordy of loosing them. Think about those who live in Russia or China or Japan or other places where you may have to work 7 days a week, wouldn't be able to get a truck or a car.. don't have great places to travel to and vacation in and learn about..

Yes life sucks, but many times it sucks because we let ourselves compare our lives with those who are a bit more successful or blessed. Find the little things that you DO have in your life to be grateful for. For all of you who are married and/or have children, in my opinion, you are the luckiest SOBs out there. In my opinion, nothing in this life will bring more satisfaction and meaning in life then to be married to someone who loves you and trusts you and to have children you can raise up to be responsible adults someday. No amount of money or possessions will bring the satisfaction you get with that.

God bless

Glad somebody in the business is pointing this stuff out.

Personally will never give either Gov. Employee Insurance Co nor Progressive one penny.

Well, if I was single, 30 years younger, and better lookin, I'd probably drive from California to Michigan to court you. :sigh:

I won't get into too many details, but is anyone else sick of struggling, JUST to break even?

I work very hard, I put in extra hours whenever the company allows, I don't buy anything, and yet I cannot get ahead. The cost of living is just too high. I am honestly beginning to wonder if I will be struggling my entire life!

Is anyone else in this boat, or am I paddling this one all by myself?

Don't know your age just stay on a budget, have just one credit card to use and balance paid and save all you can even if it's pennies for retirement 401k and IRA. Maybe a vocational course to advance your skills. Getting mad and quitting a job caused me to lose almost everything 2008 short selling my house and moving in with sister for two very very long years but I'm grateful for her help. Finally got a junky truck driving job and then with big OTR trucking company living in a truck for two years saving whatever I could. Just to keep diggin' and for sure don't lose your temper

My Wife and I were getting ahead pretty good recently until Friday. We took a two day and one night trip only to come back home to one of the dogs sick.

We took her to the vet the next day, and wasted $58 on a visit that accomplished nothing. Thursday night she was still sick so first thing Friday we took her to the animal hospital. Turned out she got into rat poison. No idea how or where? We couldn't find any anywhere.

After blood work, an overnight stay, and a plasma transfusion she's okay, but our wallets aren't. Were just glad she's okay. It's always something though it never gets better.

    • Yes that's right, it's the upgrade that includes the overload spring and all that stuff.   Someday when I'm empty and going by a scale I'm going to stop in and get some weight readings.   Exactly  you should have the ability to change individual settings, in in Canada so I'm driving with kph but then I'm stuck with kpa when I want psi lol
    • You must have that upgraded gvw package which is only available or at least was in 2025 with the diesel engine for the 3/4 ton and that gave the truck physically the larger 12.0 ring gear rear diff and the 3500 rear spring pack. There is a difference in what the diff housing looks like externally as one tell tale and also your truck should have the upper overload spring pack and the frame pads that the pack goes up against.    The pressure the tpms system kicks the alarm in on a stock setting truck, that is a good question and was just from what I recall but I doubt I made any notes on it as I knew for the rear that it was not at all what I was after regardless either. Being that you have a diesel and if running on stock tires the minimum pressure on an empty truck seems to be around 50 psi from hearing of those that have weighted the front axle but the rear axle is very similar in weight to a gas truck and again a near empty truck on the rear could go down to 35 pounds at minimum. However the weigh scale is the proper way to know for sure as a guide.    As to changing the readings on the dash from metric to the US measuring system, oh yes that is done easily but what I was attempting to explain was that I can't pick and choose items I want to have in US and those I still want in the metric system at the same time as its either all or none. For example lets say you drove into Canada and switched your dash over to metric so your speedometer read in km an hour, well then your reading kilopascals on your tpms readout and your wife looks over and says what the hell is that saying in the tpms screen and you say "darned if I know, I think its Chinese" !
    • This is partly why I decided to have switched over to Amsoil SS as a way of hopefully preventing the buildup of the sludge/carbon on the pistons and clogging of the oil control rings and the carbon that would cause the compression rings to stick in their grooves as well as stay cleaner up top of the heads in the valve train in the first place, an oil that has tested better by third party testing over typical shelf oil and also doing my best to run relatively short OCI. However in saying that I don't think there is any way to easily prove the oil I was using prior allowed for a buildup at the OCI I was doing, nor in the other direction to make claims the Amsoil is keeping everything clean either. There really isn't a window into the engine is there to know anything for certain even if oil samples were taken for example that showed still healthy oil being dropped out of the oil pan other than engine tear downs that extensive and expensive testing of oils does to actually visually see what is really going on inside the engine. I wish there was some easy method of seeing what is going on but I don't happen to be aware of that if there is.
    • My truck is a ¾ ton but my placard also says 80 for the rear tires, I think I might have the upgraded suspension to the 3500 series maybe.   I put my air down to 60 and the light was still on, and there was no way I was putting over 60 psi in the rear empty and not towing because I knew the actual number Toyo gave me and I didn't wanna ruin the center of my tires!   And you actually can change it in the settings from metric or is and it will show kph or mph then when you go into your tire settings it will be either psi or kpa, but it would be nice to just change it directly on the tire psi page
