Unwanted Transfer Case Shift to Neutral Recall

Recommended Posts

I had my truck done last Thursday while some other things were being addressed.

So far so good, not a hiccup. Radio is fine

No mention of a gauge program change?

I had the recall service done yesterday on the truck (along with the fix for the odometer). I haven't had any issues with MyLink; however, the Bluetooth is acting a little odd...I'm not sure yet if it's my iPhone acting up or the truck.

There's another thread on this. Like most problems with these trucks, a few have issues with this update, but most seem to be fine. It seems to be whether the dealer knows what they're doing or not. I plan to wait until my next oil change so I know the dealer has done this update on a lot of trucks before I get mine done. That's just me being extra cautious.

My post was deleted, in fact there is no trace of it! Wtf

I was commenting on the fact that our trucks have so many things wrong with them, and GM has done nothing to help us! And legal action is our only avenue left.

Now our posts are beings monitored and deleted folks, mine was completely removed when I mention this.

We need answers whats going on?

Actually that is the point of the recalls 2stroke. They are CORRECTING the issues that have come up. When you build a test vehicle and you start to mass produce that same vehicle in quantities of millions of vehicles, then it's hard to watch and make sure every vehicle is put together perfectly. Also it's hard to guarentee that the parts in EVERY vehicle will be the same. So as a precaution, they perform the recalls to prevent something from happening to those who were actually at risk, and for those who had a product that was not really at risk for having something happen, well at least they now have the peace of mind that nothing will happen.

I mean hey, if you buy a FIRST YEAR RUN (ie, our 2014s), you DONT buy it because it will be perfect and not have issues, you buy it becuase you can't wait for all the kinks to be worked out by the second year run. If you want all kinks worked out from the start then you wait and but the last year run. In this case, you would've bought a 2013 GM truck instead of 2014.

Also these trucks are a huge step in different works for GM. They have different computers, more computers, and the more computers, the more things could happen. And once again, no matter what is done on the assembly line to keep every truck the EXACT SAME, not everything will be able to be the same.

Not sure how legal action is 'our only avenue left'. If you feel that a product is not up to par with what you feel it should be, then trade it in and go with another brand. Don't just sit and complain. Get up and fix the problems you face!

If your truck has been broken since you bought it, and dealership along with GM has stopped helping.

What else is left for us to do?

My comments here were mainly about GM reps not responding to the big issues.

By the way Mike1220 is your truck broken?

I purchased a 2014 Silverado in mid April. About two weeks after owning it, I pulled out onto a highway and the truck shifted from third gear into neutral. I pulled over and attempted to accelerate again and the truck did the same thing. I called OnStar and had it towed in with only 195 miles on it!! After technicians drove it for another 165 miles, they were able to replicate it. I refused to take possession back and, to the dealer's credit, they got me another brand new truck.

Glad to see that GM has identified the problem. It is a serious safety issue. I wasn't willing to take the first truck back as I had lost confidence in its ability to perform. I didn't want to find myself in a situation where acceleration was critical and it didn't perform.

Your post was deleted because you were disrespectful to the GM rep. We won't tolerate that. Also realize that the reps here are customer service, not tech support.

Then you should say that. The way you worded your post, it seemed like you were just complaining about GM in general and the only way to solve your issues with GM is legal action.

Also, have you just tried one dealer in your attempts to get your truck fixed?

Also no. Mine is not. I have 5900 nearly trouble free miles. The only true issue I have had is this past week it got stuck in 4WD. Dropped it off at the dealer and within 1.5 hours of dropping it off, I got a call saying it was ready for pick up. So not a big issue since they got it fixed so quickly.

Also, not to be 'that guy' but why did you purchase a broken vehicle? Also if it was 'broken' when you purchased it, then why did you not get the dealer to switch it after they were not able to fix it within the first 3 weeks of ownership?

I called to schedule the transfer case recall on my 2014 SLT 6.2L w/ Max Towing. I was also told about the speedometer/odometer thing. They are so booked that I'm 2 weeks out. I'm also having them check the driver's seat cushion, as something seems loose now. When taking turns and my body weight shifts (I only weigh 175 pounds), I can feel slight shimmy-ing in the seat. Also, the front passenger seat back is coming off the seat (I have the vented seats option), and I can't seem to get it to stay on anymore. I'm suspecting both will be looked into under warranty (7200 miles). The transmission line was already looked at, and my truck had the correct bolt already.

*edit* In all honesty, I agree that it can be a hassle to figure out how/when to drop off my personal vehicle when I have a work/service vehicle to deal with, and all the "time lost" (or having friends/family keep taking me places to situate my vehicles). But in the end (and as others have mentioned already), when a test unit of anything is built (and typically, many test units are built and tested), only so much can be found wrong with them and corrected. When you start mass producing a unit (whether it be vehicles or cell phones), there WILL be other issues that come up down the road that did not present itself during the test period. This is part of owning something in its first production year (or first few months for cell phones--can you tell I work for a cell phone company?). I knew when I ordered my 2014 last October (and didn't take delivery until February) that I will be taking it back for recalls and defects. If I didn't want to deal with this, I could have waited for a later model (2015/2016) and kept building equity in my 2009 GMC Duramax (which there was nothing wrong--bought it pre-owned with 15k miles in 2010, and didn't have anything wrong with it for the almost 4 years I had it, but then again, that generation Duramax had been out for some time, minus the regen feature). For me, I wanted the latest and greatest right then and there, and decided to not wait. This is the same for almost any electronic or mechanical gadget/gizmo we buy. (This is also why I chose to purchase the extended warranty up front because I KNOW there will be issues down the road with a first year build).

Hey guys. Quick question? My truck is due for this transfer case recall. From what I understand they have to flash the transmission and it has to re-learn everything. I have an appt. tomorrow to get it done. My question is I'm on vacation next week and going on a 9hr road trip north, do you think I should wait till I get back before doing the update?, will the transmission relearn ok? Or will I have to do the whole "break in" thing again where you have to keep it under a certain speed for a while then ramp it up? The truck runs perfectly now and I don't want to mess it up so I thought I'd ask your opinion..

Appreciate any replies, thank you..

I'm sure Tbarn will chime in, but according to him, the transfer case is just a flash for the transfer case only. Doesn't touch anything else. From what I've gathered, he works for a dealer and has had some part in the recalls. I personally don't know, so I'm taking his word for it, cause it's on the internet. So far, it seems the transfer case recall is going fine, no issues. I would make sure they do not attempt the Odometer "peek in" service update, as that one is proving to be difficult and can cause delays. I would think you'd be fine with just doing the transfer case only for now. But don't quote me on that, Your mileage may vary....

If it is working good now, I would wait. I'm not even going on a trip, and I am waiting! I've only driven my truck 3 times in the last 3 weeks. Been driving my commuter car with 227,000 miles, and no recalls. Runs like a top!

They are likely going to do the flash on the transfer case, and might just do/try the "peek in" while it is there. Why take a chance on it ruining your vacation?

+1. Let em work the bugs out of the update and not ruin your vacation. I'm going to Tennessee this coming week and that's why I've held out as well. I'll get it done when I need to take it in for its next service.
