Daryl LBZ Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 You might also want to replace the tires if they're POS Goodyear's. Agree there. Might be different now, but the Goodyears that came on my 2011 didn't do it any favors. 1
CL8N Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 (edited) I have a 2WD crew cab. Truck rides well, but I've noticed the front has a lot of "bounce" to it when going over bumps. Back end seems to absorb shock appropriately, but the front is too slushy for my liking. Just going up my driveway my truck sways and bounces. My 2012 didn't respond like this. losky79 Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Bilstein 4600's and call it a day. They have LD and HD versions. Shockwarehouse.com You might also want to replace the tires if they're POS Goodyear's. Agreed, going to swap mine out for the 4600's when they become available!!!
desert Posted June 30, 2014 Author Posted June 30, 2014 (edited) Has anyone tried these ? Pro Runner Series Shock Absorber By Pro Comp Suspension $74.99 (each) available now from "4 WHEEL PARTS" 800-257-5629 for 2014 CHEV - 1500 Overview : Pro Comp's Pro Runner Monotube Shocks are designed specifically for late model trucks, Jeeps and SUVs. The gas charged, monotube design delivers superior performance over traditional twin tube, hydraulic shocks. The vehicle specific ride tuning was derived after extensive dyno and real-world testing. The result is multi-stage valving that optimizes ride quality and handling characteristics for your specific application. The brushed, Zinc plated, clear coated, monotube shock body is nitrogen gas charged to eliminate performance-robbing cavitation during compression and rebound, allowing the shock to dissapate heat more efficiently, drastically reducing shock fade. Whether you are towing a trailer or hitting whoops in the desert, you can count on Pro Comp's Pro Runner Shocks to give you the confidence behind the wheel. I thought I might toss a pair on the rear, see how they are. Edited June 30, 2014 by desert

If you're willing to wait, Bilsteins should be about the same price, are also nitrogen charged monotube design, but you get the peace of mind of an industry leading brand and model shock. Just my $0.02.
pb65stang Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Bilstein 5100s (or 4600s) all the way. Have them on my Tacoma, and will put them on whatever truck I have from here on out.

Your ranchos will be fine until they release something as those pro comps I don't think will fair much better then your current shocks.
Aaron brochu Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Yes the ranchos are not that great. You need sky jacker 9000 Nitro's filled. That's what I have and they rock
desert Posted July 1, 2014 Author Posted July 1, 2014 Makes sense. Thanks for the help. Bilsteins it is.
Last C5 Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 (edited) I had Ranchos first and Pro Comps second on my Ford 4X4 1 ton, both of them gave up the ghost in short order. Did the last 40K before I sold it on Bilsteins - no problems. Edited July 1, 2014 by Last C5
GMC-AT Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 +1 ... don't waste your time on Pro Comps, Skylacker or any "lift company" shocks. They all suck the same. Bilstein smokes them all..
RobZ71LM7 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 (edited) The factory shocks on my 2014 2wd crew cab suck-the GM valving is horrible. I'm patiently waiting for Bilsteins. The biggest issue I have is they have way too little high speed rebound and the truck takes too long to settle over bumps (some of you might describe this as floaty). I'm no Rancho fan but the factory Rancho shocks on Z71's are likely built to GM specs with GM valving. Edited July 2, 2014 by RobZ71LM7 1

I enjoy the smooth ride while driving though.
EaZ8 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 kinda suspension related question. is there any stiffer sway bars that we can get? i know, its a truck, meant to have body roll and flex off-road. the only off-roading i will be doing is some trails that are just not considered provincial roads, ill be 80% just driving around highways, 10 towing and 10 some very easy trails is there a 2wd or 4x4 SS version of our trucks with sway bars?

Hellwig has a 1.5" front sway bar available and an adjustable 1.125" rear sway bar. I've already ordered both. A lot of people just install a rear on the trucks, but there are huge gains to be made up front as well. I'm hoping these combined with new shocks will put the truck where I want it. But the shocks still have to go.
