Firearms owners....Be sure to know your gun friendly States!

Touchy subject for sure. This is why i wish there was one set of federal issued handgun laws. Not state by state. Make it easier to travel.

There is it's called The Constitution, the feds messed it up, so why give them even more control over our rights? The feds have no business regulating firearms or 99% of the other things/issues they regulate.

Yea I would think if you are out of state how can you know all the laws.

In this woman's specific case, she should have been well aware of the law. Not that I agree that she should be charged, I think it's ridiculous and the use of officer discretion should have been a no brainer here BUT.........in Pennsylvania when you are issued a License To Carry A Firearm, you are also given paperwork. In that paperwork you will find a list of States that honor your firearms license and those that do not. You are also given all legal provisions pertaining to the city of Philadelphia it's a whole different world there when it comes to firearms.

If she would have taken the time to do what was required of her and read her paperwork, this could have been prevented.

She can and will be expected to know the gun laws of every state. Before I travel I do exactly that. Anyone with a functioning brain knows Jersey and NY are anti states that you in no circumstances want to be in possession of a gun in.

I agree but to have 50 different laws is crazy we are 1 country. Guess this is why I rarely travel out of indiana :)

Why not? It's the same thing with drivers licenses, the states decided to allow other states' residents to drive in their state. It's the same thing with guns. nj and a few other states rarely trust their own citizens with guns so why would they allow a nonresident? You are responsible for knowing the laws when you travel. I check the laws before I travel. Florida you don't have to identify, but when in Texas I have to. Florida's ccw covers weapons, some states only firearms. Also in Florida we can carry as many as we can conceal, others only 1. Heck some states (or at least they did) made the distinction between semi auto carry and carrying a revolver which meant if you wanted to carry both you'd have to qualify with both.

More than that. Some states allow what's called home rule. Basically means a city/town can set stricter standards. For example, NY has crazy gun laws. NYC is even worse. I'd like to see universal reciprocity of carry permits but I never will support a national permit, it would be sooooo watered down with restrictions it wouldn't be worth it. My Michigan CPL is good in 40 states, I'll live with that.

If you have a concealed permit it will show up when they run your D/L. Then they REALLY start asking questions. Just too bad she erred and has ended up costing her. The Barney Fifes in some of the small burgs really scare me though. Some are newbies and some have been *re-assigned* (not all, but some).

Not true. Out of state can't tell if you have a carry permit. In state they usually can tell but if I were stopped in NH with my Michigan permit they wouldn't know unless I told them.

Florida permits don't even show up for police in Florida if I remember correctly, which means there's no way that another state's officer will know about it.

Not sure where you came up with that but it's nonsense and does not and can not happen. When you get either a firearms license or permit depending on which your state issues, that information is NOT stored in a national database such as NCIC. That information can ONLY turn up if requested through you issuing state's database if the Sheriff's office information is easily accessible during normal business hours (in most cases).

Your drivers license is issued to you through your state of residence. Your firearms license/permit is issued on the county level through your local Sheriff's office. A DL check will only give the current status of your license, that's all. If an officer wants to check something as simple as a warrant, that's another check that needs to be requested separately.

Most state DMV's have a hard enough time with DL issue and keeping current, up to date records. Imagine if they had to have their information and records cross referenced with up to almost 100 Sheriff's departments in some states to have firearms carry information added to your DL status, it would be a mess.

Well, it happened to me in OR with my Idaho drivers license, so answer that one (no infraction, just a Barney Fife wondering what I was doing going up a dead end canyon at 11pm). Also, guess what geniuses? In Idaho your CCW permit number is the SAME number as your drivers license.

I should have justified my comment above by adding a comment regarding Idaho to begin with.

Sorry to get everybody's panties in a wad :happysad:

Some CA jurisdictions started issueing CCWs. Since they can no longer make you "justify" the need for a CCW, I'm guessing you have to provide a stool sample or something now. I'll find out more in a few months. The guy I'm training at work has applied and received an interview date.

Unless you live in Florida where ours are issued by the state and not the county yet still do not show up. We have laws preventing random people/media/politicians from gaining access to permit holder info. Actually we have laws to prevent the state from raiding the CCW funds too lol.

More of a privacy concern for a lot of carriers. The media is so intent on finding and outting carriers that we tend to do a little research on the topic. Obviously every state is different and yeah specifying the spud state probably would have cut down on a post or two.

I have my CCW and have been pulled over 3 times, twice by state trooper once by local and the cops didn't mention once about my CCW, I didn't say anything because I didn't have a weapon in my car.

    • I’m definitely interested to hear the end result here.
    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken.
    • Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Years later, your thread is still helping Silverado owners.   I bought my 2025 Silverado 1500 in January 2025, and I've had what feels like the exact same rattle since day one. After reading your findings, I believe my truck has the same issue with the cable carrier contacting the rear sliding window. To be honest, I had pretty much given up on pursuing the issue. It wasn't until I recently drove another brand's pickup that I realized just how quiet their cabin was—and how noisy mine has been all along. On my truck, the rattle happens on almost any paved road, gets even worse on rougher pavement, and I can even hear it during braking and acceleration.   I actually referenced your thread when submitting my case to GM, hoping they'll recognize this as a recurring issue instead of treating it as an isolated incident. The reason I reached out to GM first is because my dealership told me they would need to keep the truck for at least two days just to diagnose the problem. I was concerned that even after two days, they still might not be able to identify the source of the rattle before giving the truck back to me. I had also asked a few dealerships about this issue during previous service visits, but none of them seemed to know what was causing it or had a solution. That's why I decided to contact GM directly first, hoping they might already have an official repair procedure or guidance for this issue.   I also hope GM eventually comes up with an official fix for this problem. I have a feeling there are many Silverado owners experiencing the same rattle, but most either choose to live with it or simply don't know what the cause is.   Really appreciate you taking the time to document your diagnosis. Your post is still making a difference years later.
