Mine show within a pound or two of what I get at the valve. I was running 44 psi in the stock tires around town and dropped them to 40 before I went on a trip. They are good to 51 or 54 psi, so no worries there. I didn't care that they wear out faster as I hate them. I now have two Michelin on the back with 34 psi and stock on the front at 40 psi. I don't know about the rough ride part as these would need to be solid rubber tires to get close to my cars ride.

I've been running 35psi Front and 33psi Rear, Cold. The rear is spot on the money. runs 34-35 hot while running. The fronts jump up to 37-38 hot while running. I may try 36 cold up front, but the rear is spot on. I like the combo thus far....

As far as accuracy, my dash readout says 32psi cold but if I use my pressure gauge, I get 34psi.

Could also be your pressure gauge that's out. Sounds like you've got 4 opinions (tire sensors) vs one (handheld gauge).

 

I know I've had to discard pressure gauges that have lost accuracy.

I actually tried a different gauge and it was reading 35 psi, and the sensors still said 32/33 psi. I have nitrogen in my tires (dealer add-on that I refused to pay for and they took it off the price - along with removing some cheesy pin stripes and door edge guards)

The air you breathe is 78% nitrogen...for tires, its more of a gimmick.

For a street car you could call it a gimmick, but it was started by racers for a real purpose. The straight nitrogen gas is without water that you will get by compressing normal air without a drier. I believe the nitrogen also expands less than the other gases, but not 100% on that one. The water in the normal air will increase in volume faster than the gas, so as the level of water changes how much your pressure will increase when the tires gets hot. Race teams want to have exactly a certain pressure to make a tires surface temps equal all the way across so they are get equal contact with the entire surface and maximum traction. They will some times give up some of the grip to get other results in handling, but they want it to be by choice and not chance. On the street you are pissing away money as you can stop and make minor adjustment getting all equal with the water in there if you really want to, but it's a waist of time. However if you have OCD you might not be able to help yourself.

Most of them use it because they can have a portable cylinder for rapid inflation, 2000psi regulated to whatever psi wirh zero external power...if you want dry air, add a dryer to your compressor; its cheaper.

 

Again, what you're breathing is 78% Nitrogen...that last little bit doesn't mean a whole lot to a tire.

what about Nitrogen filled tires anybody tried this Norm

 

Nitrogen really only pays off with exotic cars where the tires heat up as the laps add up.The big heat swings have less effect nitrogen so tire pressures stay very stable.

My tires dont seem to hold pressure at all. I picked my truck up 25 July they had 34 psi all around. 2 days ago at start up they showed 27 PSI all around. I live in FL temps range from 80-90 so its not getting cold. I got to work and after working all day I filled them back to 34 psi and drove home. this morning started truck tires are reading 30psi all 4. wtf is going on and how am I losing this much in all 4 tires evenly. I add air at the wawa with the gauge on the pump that shuts off at 34 psi. I dont ever remember adding air to any tires in the past except every other oil change during rotation. these seem to flucuate as much as 5 psi

Toeson- I live in Tampa. I don't have those issues. You have something going on man. My hand held dial gauge shows 35 on the front, cold and the TPMS system will show 35 when I get rolling and within a few miles I'm up to 36, 37, 38 etc. The rear I set to 33 with the same dial gauge. TPMS shows it at 32 when first driving. So maybe my gauge is less accurate at the lower range. Starting to think the TPMS system is pretty accurate. I actually tossed another dial gauge I had that was reading 2psi high. TPMS, stick gauge and my 2nd dial gauge were all on 35. My 1st dial gauge was reading 37-38. So it went. So I'm down to 1x dial gauge now that matches the 35psi, but at 33psi the TPMS shows 32. Close enough for me. 35/33 cold on the gauge is what I use. very happy with it.

On tubeless tires you're supposed to check the pressure at least every 2 weeks.

 

I bet that the temperature in the evening was warmer than in the morning.

Maybe that's the reason for the 4 psi drop.

I have to add about 4 pounds every couple of days to all of mine. These good years really suck. Today I ordered a set of BFG all terrain in 275/65/18. Hope they work out better. Also couldn't stand not having traction with the good years on the dirt roads.

Its my experience that psi in tires fluctuates approx 10% with temps. I'm in Fla also, my tires will read 32 cold in the AM, and rise to 36 while driving. I never have to add air, but if you want a constant psi I believe nitro will help

For those of you who have found the ideal tire pressure, are your trucks equipped with the standard suspension package or Z71 off road? The reason I ask is that, when test driving Sierra 1500s, I found the Z71 to be too harsh of a ride for my tastes. I found it so harsh that I asked the rep to check the PSI, but all 4 tires were in the range of 35-37 PSI. We switched to a truck with standard suspension and I liked it much better. That truck had all 4 between 36-37 PSI, so valid comparison, in my opinion.

 

Since I'm going to put lots of highway miles on my Denali (should be at the dealer next week!), I'm going to set my PSI based on your recommendations, but I'm wondering which suspension packages you all have.

    • I think we're reaching the end of constant projects/work.   The water pump bolt appears to have self-sealed, as it's not leaking anymore. I'll take it, and, I'm ready should it self-unseal! I was also getting an oil leak at the front oil pan seal and timing cover and came to find a pan bolt on the corner wasn't even finger-tight. Too easy. And, it was. But, it appears tightening it has reduced a leak producing spots on the ground every time I parked, to just a weep, leaving an occasional dot on the cardboard that lives under it while parked. That's acceptable on a 30 year old engine in my book. I do hate leaks, but, replacing the pan seal is quite the job.   The rear washer line is reconnected and the sprayer works, although getting an intermittent washer fluid drip off the bottom. I think it's just residual...the reservoir filled up the channel in the rear floor and drained down into the upside-down spare tire/wheel. So there are residual puddles all over under there, will wait a few days for it to spill out and dry before I go chasing a potential leak.   The door speaker...no dice. Speaker works just fine, it's that channel in the factory amp that's gone bad. Can't win 'em all. And, whomever buys this will probably tear out the factory radio for something more modern anyway.   I put about 110 miles on it yesterday. Put a lot of wind and heat into it with some mountain driving. Still runs great. Near the top of the pass I got off on a gravel side road and put about 10 miles on with 4hi engaged. Works great.   If ya squint, she's mint! God I wish these were still in production. I can see why they're not. They're rudimentary bordering on agricultural. They began life as a pickup truck and then modern society demanded the rear be enclosed for kids and crap. They're still a pickup underneath, and that gives them lots of ride character, sway and bounce and bump steer. They're alive on the road, and, at least for purposes of nostalgia, it makes driving one a lot of fun.   The Check Engine light did come back on the pass, P0134 for the upstream O2 sensor dropping out. Putting heat into the exhaust causes it after about 10-15 seconds of increased load at higher RPM. The downstream sensor is completely mangled (someone clearly had a rough time removing it, but they didn't replace it?) so I'll just put two in it. For what, mostly to cure the CEL, I can tell the cat is damaged. It's not plugged or fractured, but it's not catalyzing. There's some guilt in not fixing it, but at a cost of $500+, the truck just won't get driven much under my watch. I dislike the smell...running the truck in the shop even with both doors open and the overhead fans blasting, I still reek of pre-cat exhaust. Sticks to clothing and everything else.   Window motor (I'm dreading this), and tires, and that should be about it. 50/50 on Starfire Solarus H/T's, or spending $20 more per tire and going with Cooper Discoverer RT's. I like the look of the RT's a lot more, but is it worth it? I've got a really good (just very old) Toyo Open Country XTX on there now and I like it.  
    • From what I've seen, they "could" sell the switch but designed the assembly such that the switch can't be readily removed and replaced without removing a plastic locating pin.  Sure appears aimed at forcing the end user to purchase a $900 shifter assembly instead of a $20 switch.  Thankfully I still have some extended warranty left...  this one has had warranty repairs almost every 5K miles from the day I bought it.  
    • I'm well aware of the typical bathtub failure curve, but plotted, this truck has been more like an elevated straight line.  It started days off the lot with misfires that GM couldn't solve for almost 2 years, and steadily continued over the last 5 years with repeat replacements of wiring harnesses, camera modules, cameras, parking sensors, head unit, rear windows, rear leaf springs and bushings, lower control arms, a radiator, and now an ac compressor and a column shift assembly.  
    • It was a commercial vehicle at one point. I went through all the menus and see nothing. But ill look at mygmc.com. Thank you
