must be one of them fan-dangled recalls. take it back and have them re-program the rust actuator motor on the flux capaciter. Have them fill up the blinker fluid and check the muffler bearings while you are at it.

Wow, back in the seventies we were glad to get 60 to 100k out of cars and trucks. If you did they were full of rust, you didn't get under coating unless you paid extra for it. The engines were smoking by then and transmissions had one rebuild. No they were not cheaper, same price after inflation. You actually get more stuff for the same money now.

 

Finally some sanity! Expectations are too high. It's a truck, drive it.

And now they just get away with false advertising more.

 

Edit: many of the expectations that people have are based on the advertising and promoting claims directed to the customers from the manufactures.

Some of us feel we got as advertised. There are always going to people who feel they didn't. I know this they sure last a lot longer now than they did in the past, for most people.

Yes, I concur that not everyone will agree with the statement that I made however, I'm pretty sure that everyone with frame rust will agree that they didn't receive a truck with an "Extensive and improved chassis corrosion protection that enhances the trucks appearance and lengthens the life of underbody components".

 

Edit: as for the original question in this thread, the exhaust manifolds get rusty on every vehicle that I have ever owned. As stated by several people, this is absolutely normal.

I doubt well see any 2014s thirty years from now. I hope mine will make it till I can trade it in. You should see my neighbors PERFECT , I mean perfect 71 Chevy step side.

I had few perfect old cars and trucks that's my hobby and I'm sure there will be a few 14 Chevy trucks around thirty years from now. 9d73c6bb7db12070cf55ddab238c10e7.jpg My 92 Chevy, has no undercoating.

In 1976 I bought a 74 Nova custom with the ss package for the wife. She wasn't working yet so the car only came out on nice days, bad days we just took my truck. Change the oil every 3k wash and wax as needed. At 50k miles radiator repair, gas tank change, mufflers replaced. At 80k light oil use, put a shift kit in the trans, to firm up the shifts. Rust started to form also, this was a garage kept car. Move to Texas in 79 sold the car to a friend it didn't have A.C. At 100k it had rust, repairs, used oil, and the front end needed work. That was typical. I trade often now but I did buy one and keep it in 2005. Hyundai elantra gt, wife drove it 5 years gave it to my daughter, she still has it. Work done oil changes, belt at 60k. Never garaged, drive through washes. Still looks good. Typical of today. I guess that's why the older people don't complain as much as the younger guys. We seen the vast improvements over the years and don't sweat the small stuff.

In my area local used car dealer is selling a near mint '97 Suburban 4X4 with only 74k original miles and fantastic looking exterior and interior alike. . it is a one owner vehicle, it came from the local Chevy dealer where it was traded in. The asking price is bit steep at $ 7400, but considering what new ones cost and superior quality of these older ones, it is a great buy for someone who needs a Suburban. I have seen these older ones with well over 300k miles still running good.

I was not referring to the exhaust manifold, but to a crapload of low quality cheap Chinese and Mexican made parts these vehicles are made of.

 

iPhone's, iPad's, and other extremely high quality items are made in China. The quality level is determine by the company having the item/part made, not by the country of the supplier. If a part is bare metal and rusts in seconds, that is GM fault for the specifications and accepting the part for use in vehicles. Doesn't matter where that part is made.

I ordered a new differential cover for my truck recently because the old one was rusty. The new cover was made of bare unpainted metal and already had surface rust spots on it in the new parts bag! What kind of crap is that?. Is it that difficult to paint the outside of the cover when it is made?

Last weekend I had to replace a door lock actuator on my Impala. A $190 Mexican made part that fails after 4 years of use and is a nightmare to replace? And last year I had to replace a Chinese made HVAC actuator on the same car because one of plastic teeth broke inside? I have never had any HVAC or door lock actuators fail on my Mazdas or Nissans even after 12 years and 341,000 miles on my 1999 Mazda 626. Anyone care to explain why?

 

Then GM will paint them, add 20-40$ to the cost of the part and then Joe Consumer will cry thats its too damn expensive! And they already do cry about prices!

The issue is not whether they are all American made. The main issue is cheap design coupled with inadequate quality control.

come on troll regardless of design and where its made it will rust if it had iron content. If there is no iron it will corrode. Not design or country will deny the law of physics.

Yes, and this reply of yours justifies why GM is selling new unpainted differential covers with rust spots on them already in the parts bag. An iron casting , if unpainted will rust of course and other than being visually unappealing, the rust will not hurt anything. But not painting a stamped sheet metal cover that will be visible from behind the truck when installed?

 

In case you do not know, marine cast iron water cooled manifolds are painted after they are cast and machined, and they look a lot better when installed than they would if they were bare metal and got all rusty. So do not give me that crap about "it will rust if it has iron content." Yes I know. Especially when the company is too cheap to have these parts painted.

    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug  
    • PS: Here's pic of the 2014 wheels I'd like to run when it's not winter. Stuck my finger around new wheel caliper setup. Very little clearance. I suspect these won't fit, but won't know for sure till I try.   Edit: And my first mod. Stubby antenna from the old truck.
