How long are you going to keep your truck?

Well, is this your long term truck, or will you have a new one soon?

 

I have had my 2011 for just over 3 years now, and I keep trying to convince myself that I need to keep this one for 10 years or so. I bought it brand new so I feel the need to keep it and "make it pay" so to speak. The trouble with me is, I am never satisfied. I am always looking to whats new and wanting to upgrade. I was recently at a dealership last week and was extremely tempted by a 2014 Sierra with a 6'' Pro Comp lift and 35'' tires already installed. It was a nice truck forsure, it took a lot to walk away from that one!

 

Although, if I can pay this one off, it would be nice not to have vehicle payments for a while. I have had vehicle payments now for almost 10 years, every year.

Well the '14 is just my 3rd truck/vehicle (I'm 29). The 1st truck was an 86 Custom Deluxe which I got at 17 and only kept for a year and a half. I then got a 98 Silverado in 2004 and kept that until this past April when I got my current truck. I plan to do the same with this one as I did with my 98 and keep it as long as I can until I get tired of fixing things on it. The problem with my 98 was me though because I drove it to hell and back about a dozen times lol. So I'm going to also try to take good care of this one. If I get the itch to want something to play in the mud then I'll get an older Chevy 4x4 that doesn't have a computer so I don't tear up my daily driver.

I'll keep mine as long as I can. Fixing a few things here and there doesn't bother me. And by a few things I mean motor, tranny, axles, anything short of a busted frame. IMO the only way to get your money's worth is to keep a vehicle a long time. I like my pickup.

I get bored with my vehicles. I've had payments on one or another since I was 18. Mine is a 2011 too and it will likely be the longest kept vehicle for me. Hoping to get something new by springtime.

When I said get tired of fixing things it was major stuff as you listed. It was from me beating the hell out of the 98 so I know it was me that caused most of it. I had the engine go out twice, the transmission rebuilt and completely replaced the rear axle twice. Then other stuff here and there. I had the trans rebuilt early this year, then in mid April the engine seized and that was the last straw for me. I don't mind having to fix things which is still cheaper than monthly payments, but I had been wanting a '14 anyways. A few times I had to do the big fixes I would say that I'm gonna get another truck, but never went through with it. That time I guess I saw screw it I'm gonna get a '14. So just to get rid of it I basically did an even trade for them to put the UWS toolbox and N-fab step bars and those 2 cost almost $1,000 together I believe. I probably could have gotten a little more, but I didn't worry about it since they've done me real good in the past. They also gave me a good deal on the flowmaster exhaust they did for me.

I had my 2000 for 9 and a half years. November will be 5 for the current truck. I think I will start considering a new one with the new body style in 2018 (as rumored). Don't plan on a K2 truck unless something drastic happens.

What bugs me about mine is how low it is and the cloth interior. The interior on the NNBS trucks is very boring I find, especially compared to the new 2014's.

 

However, the wife did say, if lifting your truck will make you keep it and stop trading in, then go ahead. :drool:

im with kstruckcountry, i plan on keeping mine for a long time. bought it used and abused and had to put a transmission in it already. this truck has been a trooper and still runs and drives good and im slowly getting it to look good again too.

 

not going to lie though the 15s are tempting but then i just say to myself for about 10k more my truck will be new again and go and order a new part for it lol.

This truck has been in my family since 2002 and I don't plan on selling it unless I leave the country or something else happens that just makes me fall out of love with her. She's at 224k and I don't see the latter happening anytime soon.

 

Little by little I'm taking care of overdue maintenance that should have been done years ago and I'm more than happy to do it. It sure beats $500 payments! That's $$$ I'm saving and/or investing.

I've had three other trucks before this one from 2006-2013 at no less than $506 a month. Needless to say it finally got old. I paid cash for this one, and I'm in the process of fixing it up so I will probably have this one until it's completely junk. I have no plans on buying another truck unless I get a new job paying at least $30 an hour. Even then I would keep this truck, and the new one probably wouldn't be brand new.

At this point in my life, I'm not making payments on a vehicle. Worst investment ever. Mine is paid for. I can still work on it. Don't want a new truck with so much crap on it you can't change oil without a scan tool. Plan to keep this truck till I can't find parts.

Im dept free and some what cheap. That's not the case when it comes to my rides. Ill be 59 soon and had over one hundred new and used cars and trucks, mostly used. Some I fixed up and made money on. Between me and my wife we have 4 now, she keeps hers longer thou. I like this one pretty good so far, the only thing that could change that is the diesels coming out in this brand and others soon. If they break 30 mpg and 300 hp under 35K that could work.

      I agree, simplicity and reliability matter more as vehicles get more complicated. A V8 work truck option with fewer electronic features and a stronger warranty would definitely appeal to a lot of buyers who use their trucks for real work. Customizing it with trusted outfitters is often the best way to get exactly what you need.webcrimsNY

      I’ve heard similar complaints from newer vehicles where the factory “premium” systems don’t always live up to expectations. A good installer should be able to improve the sound without turning it into a bass-heavy setup. I’d look into upgrading the front speakers, adding a quality DSP amplifier, and possibly improving sound deadening first—those changes usually make a much bigger difference than just adding a subwoofer. Hopefully someone local can recommend a reputable installer in the Las Vegas/St. George area.

      Do you remember that Harley Davidson was more successful (solvent) when it produced about 60% of the market demand (by design) and forced wait times of up to three years? Even when your turn came around it was, "Take what we are giving you or move to the back of the line and start over". HUGE markup's were 'normalized' and dealer killed. 40% markup and no floor plan? What's not to love? Greed will kill them yet. They have surplus production and customer base is tanking. And still they think nosebleed pricing will work.

      The engine was done as part of the 6.2 recall?   You'd have to see if your VIN also has the 6.2 engine special coverage on it.  Coverage number is N252494003.  If you have this, your engine is covered under this and NOT the GM replacement part engine warranty which is 3yr/100k from the date of install.  The 3yr/100k mi warranty is in effect for non warranty purchases.     This is not any different if it was replaced under warranty without a recall or special coverage.  So if you had a 5.3 and it popped at 3 years in at 50,000mi during the 5yr/60k powertrain, the replacement engine would not get the 3yr/100k, and instead gets the remainder of the 5yr/60k as coverage.     So N252494003 gives 10 years or 150,000mi of coverage, which ever comes first, starting at the vehicle in service date.  So if your in service date is 01/01/2022, N252494003 gives you special coverage of the engine until 01/01/2032 or 150,000mi, whichever comes first.  So if your start date was 01/01/2022, you'd have left 5 years and 4 months (lets round to august 1st), or 62,000mi left of coverage.   So you need to know your in service date to know how much coverage is left.

      Okiee dokie there bud, way to take things to the extreme.   I guess you missed the whole point and take things way to serious. I installed different EV6 style injectors that just so happen to be larger in my car running the same LQ4 engine and with a better spray pattern than the stock style injectors and I noticed no difference in the idle quality. Kinda was my round about way of saying that even if you put the same size but better style injectors in your truck, you will likely see the same thing.    I'm sure you're great to have conversations with in person if that's how you act through a keyboard. One little things sets you off and now I guess my dick is all up in your face.
